Comments on: New Mac Mini to include multiple monitor support?

I’d like to see an inexpensive dual monitor mac so I can look toward replacing my Dual G5 at home. I’m currently running two 1920×1200 monitors and I love having all that real estate to work with.

Big deal, you can add up to 6 external monitors with USB adapters.

@Henry: you’re wrong, unless you’re a gamer you won’t notice any difference between USB adapters and a dual-port video card.

I think the displayport/DVI would work more like a mirroring option. This is apple’s entry level/low cost system, so compatibility would seem more an option. I would rather have an HDMI/Displayport combo for direct connection to a HDTV.

OS X (and Windows and Linux) have native support supporting dual monitors with mirroring or extending.

Mirroring is showing the same display on both monitors. This is one way how computers use projectors to show the same display. There are hardware solutions that can provide this functionality as well. If the Mac Mini supports this built in, this would be a VERY nice projector PC for classrooms and conference rooms.

Extending uses the additional display(s) to provide more screen space. I have dual monitors at home and it’s fantastic. I usually put iTunes and IM on that screen. I also use it at work when I’m comparing spreadsheets or need to see two things in full screen at once.

Hope this clears multiple monitor support for people who’ve never used it before.

While I don’t have much use for dual monitors, I can see where this will interest many other people.

What I want to know is if their changing anything to the iPod Touch. My video is on the verge of dieing and I really want to pick up a touch (or get one for my bday in 2kws). But Im not gonna buy one now knowing they will probably change something to it or release a new update and charge everyone for it.

The benefit for dual monitors is huge! You can watch something full screen on one while working on the other full screen as well. On a business note, you can have two windows of documents open at the same time full screen for easier comparison and such.

I would imagine that the Mac Mini would have support for either/or, not both. Knowing Apple, they’ll say it supports something with the purchase of an adapter.

Two screens showing the same thing? or can it be partitioned(correct word?) to show two seperate displays, one on each monitor? either way, what’s the benefit to this?

Mac support of those usb monitor solutions is spotty at best, and while that will continue, its just never going to be satisfactory for the kind of people who have been clamoring for 2nd display port for minis.

If you need multi monitor on any computer, just buy an USB adapter. No need to buy another computer…
