Developers rejoice: Paid apps coming to Android Market in Q1

It looks like Google is getting ready to push its Android Market a few giant leaps toward the big time as it prepares to finally support the sale of commercial applications. In an email to developers, Google stated that two big Android Market moves are coming in Q1 of this year: First, Google’s answer to the App Store will become available in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands over the coming weeks, with additional European countries to follow later in the quarter. Secondly, the Android Market will begin supporting paid applications starting in the US and UK in “early Q1,” followed by other European locales as payment systems go live. This marks a major step forward for both Google and the Android platform in general as a business solution / viable commercial resource for developers. It’s not just developers who should be rejoicing either. In general, companies and individual third-party developers alike will only spend a certain amount of time and money on free apps. Unless an app is to be riddled with annoying and cumbersome advertising (hello, free iPhone apps), paid apps are often more visually pleasing and offer more advanced functionality than freebies. Of course some companies might issue great free apps to draw attention to other services, but the general rule still stands: Commercial apps are often a different breed. So, Android fans, it looks like you’ll be starting out the new year with a bang as we all anxiously await the announcement of some new Android-powered handsets.

Even with the small amount of users right now Android will soon have more apps available than Blackberry in no time at all. Go Android!

The iPhone already has 14,039 apps in about 6 months and RIM has only 700 for all of BB in 7 years! Soon iPhone will overtake Windows Mobile and Android will follow!

Why do so many argue the iPhone against Blackberry as having ridiculously more apps…? frankly, people who have Blackberries don’t care. We didn’t get BB’s to get apps, rather we got them because they serve their purpose perfectly. Not so we can go buy an app that makes my screen look like a lit zippo or so I can pretent as if I’m drinking a beer through my phone with a charming little *burp* at the end.

BB users enjoy BB’s for what they are. If anything, it should define that BBs are good enough with out the apps with the proof they’re still selling them like hot cakes. BBs for men, while iPhone for the kid who loves games, phone tricks, and cute apps?
…Seriously that debate is becoming old and redundant.

I have only had my G1 for 6 days and the free apps are good but can’t wait for the real deal! I am also tired of all the iPhone owners talking smack. If you love your iPhone so much why do you keep reading post about the G1 just be happy with your iphone.

I HAD MY G1 SINCE OCTOBER, WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT I EXPECTED MORE BUT THE LONGER I HAVE IT THE MORE I REALIZE THE POWER IT CONTAINS. 2 YEARS FROM NOW MY PHONE WILL HAVE FEATURES THAT WILL PLEASE ME, WHILE OTHER PEOPLE ARE UPGRADING THEIRS TO HAVE THE SAME FEATURES. SOON THE G1 WILL OUT SHINE THE BLACKBERRY AND IPHONE.
