And so it ends: AT&T users report network outages amidst Wal-Mart’s iPhone 3G launch
Oops. Murphy’s Law may be in full swing today for the country’s largest GSM carrier at the worst-possible time – iPhone 3G / Wal-Mart launch day. We’ve yet to have any issues in the New York area but emails are hitting us en masse from AT&T customers reporting network outages across the east coast and beyond. Most reports recount difficulties with connecting via AT&T’s 3G network but some go further to detail voicemail difficulties, BlackBerry service outages and even complete network outages spanning hours at a time. This is obviously a pretty big deal for Wal-Mart locations in affected areas – imagine switching from your current carrier to snag a shiny new iPhone 3G and stepping out of the store only to find that your new toy won’t make a voice or data connection. Yikes. We spoke to AT&T after hours customer service and after about 30 minutes on hold, they did confirm “reports of network troubles” but couldn’t (or wouldn’t) specify which regions might be affected or whether or not these issues had been resolved. Time to sound off, BGR readers – any problems in your area?

Service down in Detroit…
been down all day in Royal Oak, Southeastern Michigan. It says limited service but I am not able to make or receive any calls.
No Iphone service Just west of Elgin, IL. Huntley, and Hampshire, IL. Turn off the phone and I get bars for 5min, and then NO SERVICE.
Chicago iPhone User here (outlying South Suburb, actually): No ATT service for over an hour now. Thank goodness for this site; I didn’t know what the heck was going on . . .
I live in Dearborn, MI and I have no service since early this AM. We had strong winds lat night but it seems a state wide issue.
if your voicemail is so important just call from another phone
My 3 BB’s have not had any issues…
metro detroit, out… been out since 8 am… it came back for a moment around 1pm, then fell again..

From Wheaton, IL here…no service since about 11 a.m. on my Blackjack! Try to make a call and get emergency calls only. People try to call me and get network busy, call failed! This sux…I’m supposed to be on call today for work and no one can get a hold of me now!!!
No service in South Suburbs of Chicago. I have an iPhone; I can access web, but no phone service.
Just got service back. Can’t tell if it’s Edge or 3G, but my test call went through.
Just drove from Ohio to Chicago, Iphone dead whole way 2 other AT7T cell phones work for now.

1(866) 801-3600 that’s AT&T’s Sunday support phone number. Call and credited. Customer service stated that people are flooding Apple with calls too. They are celebrating by letting their ball fall early. Happy New year! This is going to suck if they can’t get it working for people before new years eve.
Am in northern NJ 10 minutes from NYC and my problem is that i went to bed at 6:00 AM this morning and my phone hasn’t stop ringing, it’s like everyone pick today to call and say merry christmas, by the way am using a iPhone 3G with AT&T so i guess everything is fine in my area

3G is dropped, as well as EDGE for christ sake! i dont have a signal 60% of the time
