I will tell you all what is good about Wal-Mart, their sales associates don’t know anything about what they are selling, usually that is a very bad thing. Today though when I went in to replace my phone I lost over the weekend, it turned out to be a very good thing. Since I am not eligible for an upgrade until this time in 2009, the price for an iphone was going to run me over $650. But since the Wal-Mart sales associate thought the price listed was the price no matter if you are eligible for an upgrade, I was able to get the phone for the $297 price as if I was a new customer or eligible for an upgrade. Thanks Wal-Mart.

Sorry, chief, I’m stuck in Georgia with low taxes, cheap property, and more rednecks, blacks, and black rednecks than you could shake a stick at. I also don’t make a lot of money, so if anything, I SHOULD be shopping at Walmart, but I don’t for the reasons stated earlier.

jonnybruha, maybe price is not a concern for you, but there are many people who are thankful for thr service walmart provides. BTW, Iperceive that youn live in the “Peoples Republic of California”. At what cost is it “ok to strive and achieve greatness”? Does it matter how many people you step on or take advantage of in the process? Or does the end justify the means regardless?

You make your decisions with your wallet. For the company Walmart is and HOW it has achieved its current success, I choose to shop elsewhere, and I just so happen to live in a place that still has competition. Sorry about Oklahoma.

To shop there JUST because you’re saving that $2 on your iPhone or that $.11 on a new CD and completely ignore HOW they were able to bring you those savings is insufferably selfish and part of the reason our economy is suffering as bad as it is.

Status symbols varry amongst different groups. What isn’t a status symbol to you might be a status symbol to someone else. It is all relative.

.. For example, some people here think that not shopping at Wal-Mart is a status symbol, and others do not.

So yeah, the selling of the iPhone at Wal-Mart makes the phone less of a symbol for some people. Yeah, boo hoo, it’s sad. People are shallow.

Hi,
It is stunning how low we have desended as a nation. I am black, live in Oklahoma, and I shop at walmart, hence, I guess I am a Black Redneck.

I agree with the poster who said that a minimum wage job is better than no job. Walmart is not asking for billions of MY tax dollars because of stupid buisness mistakes and greedy unions.

Do any of you actually know any walmart employees? Have you ever desended low enough to talk to one? I make over 60,000 per year(for you elitest, that is good money in Oklahoma). I shop walmart because I am not stupid. They simply invented a better mouse trap.

Why do we hate those who achieve instead of trying to invent the next better mouse trap?

Mall-Wart blows. They’ve built a successful business off the backs of their workers and their suppliers (whom they squeeze).

They “pass the savings” on to you, sure. You might save .10 on peanut butter, but you pay more taxes because of them. They’re funneling their workers onto state/government aid (welfare, Medicaid) rather than offering benefits they can clearly afford to pay (5 Mall-Wart heirs among the top-10 richest people in America). They move into towns and demand to pay no property tax for 5 years (or however long). If the city doesn’t take the deal, Mall-Wart doesn’t come. Who picks up the tab for them not paying their share? Other businesses.

I don’t shop there, but to each their own.

Okay, why does everyone think that wal-mart is for rednecks? There is an obvious reason why the retail giant has propelled 5 people into the top 10 richest people in the US, bot to mention one of the only GROWING stock values of any consumer driven company in the world. They are brilliant at positioning. They tell the market what to do, not the other way around. They have grown beyond dirt road corner stores and are crushing big city grocery stores. Who among you reading this HASN’T shopped at wal-mart? Independant of the color of your neck, you appreciate the convenience and value that wal-mart brings, even if you have to deal with a pissy check stand attendant.
So, the point I’m trying to make is that this is a good move for apple, who is trying to break free of the niche perception that has kept them in the MICROshaddow. Next will be macbooks and the lot. Keep in mind, this Jobs fellow is a lot smarter (and therefor richer)than any of us.

I’m with the Queen on this one. If you think that an iPhone has anything to do with exclusivity, you are dead wrong. Everyone has one, ranging from infants to the nearly deceased and mildly retarded to pretentious businessmen. It is the new RAZR, as proven by its sales numbers over the RAZR and the fact that it’s NOW SELLING AT WALMART. How was it ever exclusive? When it was $600, maybe, but those people were just flat out stupid for buying one. Now it’s arguable.

This is what is going to happen. Everyone who activates a Iphone from Walmart will be sent to an att store to finish the job. It will be the worst customer experince ever. The ATT resellers send their customers into the corporate stores when they cant finish the job. Besides, the $30 data package will keep the same people from buying the Iphone that are not buying it at an ATT corporate store. Its a great idea on apples side, but I cant see an educated customer putting their Iphones “birth” in the hands of a walmart employee. Oh, and the Bold will be available at Walmart soon just like every other phone. Now that Im thinking, I wouldnt be surprised if you see Apple laptops sold in walmart soon. Why not. the only people who dont shop at walmart at all are people who dont have one close or they are conciously boycotting walmart.

Selling at Wal-Mart can’t really hurt they already ubiquitous status of the iPhone. It may just be me, but I liken the iPhone’s popularity to the Sidekick of yesteryear. Face it, everyone has one already. If Apple wants to target the few that don’t, so be it.

Slave Wages (Minimum Wage) are much better than NO WAGES, they hire people that otherwise would be on welfare or unemployment, and they sell name brand stuff cheaper than anyone else, I’ll continue to shop there, it’s the best deal around
