Comments on: T-Mobile planning to send out extended batteries to all G1 owners?

There are two batteries on the market for this phone. One of them has double the capacity and thus needs the extended cover. The other one, which is about 1400 mah, does not require an extended cover. I have no practical experience for either, but I love the phone with the exception of the battery life.

Do you even own a shadow? Tmobile did include an extended battery

i love my g1 in every aspect except the battery life but i called tmobile and complained about a month ago and they sent me an extra standard battery, so now i have 2, i also bought an external battery only charger for 10 bucks and it works great. so i keep one in my pocket and one in my phone, tho i have noticed that my battery life on the my original battery has gotten better and i rarely have to switch over to the second. For me this is a far batter alternative than a thicker fatter phone, thats why i took off the pastic case i bought, just too bulky. Also the g1 sold about 999,000 more than than 700, which is pretty damn impressive being that it is a first generation first installment Phone that has only been out in the US for 2 motnhs and the UK for one month (only 2 countries total, compared to dozens from the iphone), on top of T-mobile only stocking the phone 27 markets in the US and not like the iphone where it was pretty much everywhere, hell every store in my area (non 3g) has non working models setup, so most people dont ever get to see if potential but rather its underwelming but VERY functional form (i admit its not sexy, but ill out type anyone on me vs iphone). So yea a million sold in only 2 countries and in the biggest one had limited availabilty and accessability in retail stores, i would say its pretty damn good.

As far as batterys go, hmm all my friends with iphones have dead batteries by the end of the night and cant even drunk people if they wanted, at least we have a solution of interchangable batteries.

Im thinking that this rumor however might have some truth to it and im thinking that HTC not t-mobile will be eating the cost, b/c there product has the bad battery and tmo has to deal with it and is probably sick of it. I however dont think there gonna just give them out to all G1 but rather do it like they did the shadow and send extended “ghetto booty” battery to onlty customers who call in and complain.

Also if they only upgraded to the 1400mah then they could possibly keep same form factor as SEIDO has created a same size 1400mah battery that i here works pretty well with a few charges.

They did do it for thr shadow. You had to call up and ask for it but they would send it to you free of charge. And yes, it put a nice ugly hump on it too.

I love my G1. The battery life suxors though. With normal use it lasts about 30 hours. Playing with the fiddle, it lasts about 12 hours.

I’d be content if bigdaddy was even half right. The launch G1 had some warts, but I probably would’ve kept it if the thing hadn’t shipped with the lousy battery spec typical of HTC.

If only T-Mobile had done this for the Shadow…

bigdaddy is a tool, no way any battery they have triples the battery life, get a clue.

this is the biggest problem with the G1 so its good the try to fix it before another android phone is released.

I have seen this extended battery, no hump on the back and it iw way bigger than 1400mah, it easily triples the use of the phone. what a great deal

The terrible battery life was just one of the reasons I dumped my G1. An extended battery that enhances “horrendous”, and brings it up to just “deplorable”, wouldn’t make a difference to me.

This rumor is clearly bogus. There’s no way T-Mobile has got the 700 replacement batteries needed to make this happen.
