Thank goodness… I have been counting the days until my Sprint contract is up. I agree that $15/mo for the data plan is great, but I’ve had too many connectivity problems and customer service screwups to stay with them any longer.

I heard about this and called and asked if I can get out ETF free. They said I can but the rep I chatted with told me I have until 3/15/09. I copied and saved the chat in case I decide to cancel and they give me a hard time. Just log into the website, chat with a rep and they can cancel your contract. Tell them it is due to the increase in the administration fees.

I just got off the phone with Sprint (other billing issues I won’t go into.) I decided to talk about canceling as well and the lady had no problem admitting that I can cancel with no etf. And it all depends on your billing cycle for what your last day is, as I have until Feb 2 to make the decision.

Well it does say right on the bill under the Sprint Surcharges section, “The amounts, and the components used to calculate Surcharge amounts, are subject to change.” So I don’t see how any customer has a leg to stand on for breach of contract.

^If a customer makes the request based on the administrative fee, Sprint has no legal grounds to prevent a customer from leaving, regardless of what any poorly-trained, poorly-paid CSR has to say on the matter.

Sprint doesn’t have to terminate your contract because of the administrative fee as long as they work out a suitable compromise. You can try by calling the cancel accounts department. Tell them you want to cancel your account based on the Administrative Charge and the regulatory charge. Tell them its also based on extremly poor service and coverage. If they don’t let you out of the contract keep insisting and they will offer you all sorts of options to stay.

I just got off the IM with Sprint and got my contract terminated with no EFT. They were very nice and the whole thing took only about 15 minutes. My service where I am is horrible and I hardly get reception anywhere. That is the only reason that I wanted out, there plans are the best, but when you cant talk on your phone, it really doesnt matter.

My issue was with Sprint coverage. There were many “dead spots” in my area and I had trouble in certain areas in my home, and I live in a large Metropolitan area. I switched to Verizon and the coverage blows Sprint away. I did not have any problems with initially canceling my Sprint contract without ETF. I had a old Fair-And-Flexible plan so they were glad to get rid of me since I have always refused to change plans. When I received my next bill after my cancellation call there was a $800 ETF (4 phones). I called customer service and there was no record of my chat on my account. I was able to get them to waive the ETF again due to the contract change. However they only applied it to 3 of the lines and they “forgot” to do the fourth line. I had to call back to get the 4th line ETF fee cleared. One more call to confirm the ETF waiver and I will finally free of Sprint. I have always found their customer service poor and it usually takes multiple calls to get issues resolved, primarily due to the switch in billing systems over the past 2 years.

Someone made a comment about chasing phones and referred to it in as if it were shallow. Well if you despise your current phone and you want a new one and your current carrier has nothing that appeals to you then i dont see the issue. I’ve had verizon and sprint and where i live they were both identical in service and also the same in price for the plan that i use. Verizon has better phones tho. I want a texting phone and i don’t like the options sprint has. So, i’ll move on to another carrier.

i am exactly the type to do this. i’ve done it w/ other companies when nobody seems to “own” an issue, and it works! i wouldn’t resort to this if i could find anyone in the company who will actually address the issue.

maybe if enough of us do it; they’ll actually address the problems they have. they’ve slammed my hubby into three contracts …. only one working (and billing) phone line though, and they won’t let him out w/o an ETF.

if this doesn’t work my next two phone calls go to the public utilities commission, and the local tv station who loves to bust consumer scams.

Sprint may not get all the devices the others get but you can’t say they don’t have comparable ones. Leaving a carrier for bad service is understandable but chasing phones is silly because the change every few months and what’s to say your current carrier won’t get them with a little time.

I just want to say to all these Sprint haters. Yes you don’t think that they have the most robust phones on the market. It costs a lot of money to acquire the rights to these phones. I am very happy with their service and have had no problems. Their pricing on their plans is phenominal!!!!! My sister is switching to Sprint after years with Verizon for the Simply Everything Plan. She priced the same plan for the Blackberry Curve with Verizon and it was almost $50 more. T-mobile was great and Verizon is definitely overrated.

I’ve got to say, that Sprint really isn’t that bad, guys. I’ve been with them for over eight years now, and all things considered, I wouldn’t change carriers even if there were no cancellation fees. I’ve got an HTC Diamond that truly is a fantastic phone, and it works amazingly well on Sprint’s CDMA network. Everyone seems to consider that the grass is greener on the other carrier’s lawns, as it were, but Friends of mine that have both at@t and Verizon hate their Shackles, as it were, just the same. Also, Sprint really does have the best pricing of all plans, and believe me, I’ve looked. One final thing, that all should consider, is that Sprint truly is making strides to both Greatly improve their customer service, and also to also build upon the infrastructure of their network.

I just called sprint today (1/2/09) and it worked, with almost no resistance from the CSR. Only certain contracts qualify, but mine did, which was originally signed 1/06. However, of my 3 lines all were early into 2 year renewals. Based on their lack of trying to retain my business (200-300/month), I would speculate that they are being purchased by AT&T, where I am heading. Just a thought, who knows, but go for it.

To each thier own, basing a carrier on a phone is well and good but my personal preference is to keep as much money as possible while getting entertainment, nav calling, messaging and data whenever I want. I am still trying to wrap my head around how $.25 would make you want to pay at least $25 more for less services and some places less coverage

I know Sprint doesn’t have coverage everywhere because no carrier does but I’m so confused as to why the majority of the post about Sprint aren’t good. They have one of the best voice and data network’s in the country in addition to the the lowest all inclusive prices with some of the best and most powerful devices. You would never know it if you read here though
