Final call for ETF-free Sprint contract cancellation
Have you been itching for a way to escape the shackles of your Sprint Wireless contract, but aren’t willing to pony up the cash to pay off the Early Termination Fee? While Sprint’s impending doom may be a foregone conclusion, you can expedite your exit by exploiting yet another material breach in contract from the carrier. Subscribers are free to exit based on Sprint’s decision to raise their non-government mandated administrative fee from $.50-.$75. The change goes into effect on the 1st of January, 2009, giving you 4 days and some change to sever your ties. As with anything like this, your mileage may vary, but we have a hunch that if you’re persistent enough you’ll probably be successful. Anyone out there looking to jump on this opportunity? Where will you take your newly freed wireless number?

My contract is up in march and I already began shopping around. It looks like I’ll be going back to att.
I’ve been trying to cancel using this loophole, and so far the Retentions Department hasn’t granted me my wish of canceling ETF free, as they told me they’re not granting waivers because of this. Any suggestions?
I have the SERO plan from Sprint and while its not always the best and I hate my phone (windows mobile phone) the price can’t be beat… $35 a month with unlimited data (I tether it to my computer a lot) and 500 minutes… Yeah I’m gonna stay.
I am looking for a way to get out of my AT&T contract and go back to Nextel/Sprint. How does one find out about these type of changes in the contracts? I have had my AT&T contract for almost 18 months. AT&T told me my contract started before they began prorated contracts so I can not get out without paying the full ETF.
Good find, there was some other loophole used by 1/1/09 too or this might be the same one. I’m going to stick it out myself because no other carrier will give me more services for my money with my 3 line fam plan. Before anybody talks about network I’ll testify to no real problems with calls or data from my homebase of Chicago to Kalamazoo, MI to Nashville, TN to Stone Mountain, GA to Indianapolis, IN to Las Vegas, NV there are also more places but that’s where most of my time is spent. I’m just waiting on thier dumbphone lineup to catch up to thier smartphones
Every carrier does one of these price hikes when the mood suits them and usually have a few thousand people jump ship. At the moment sprint is way cheaper than alltel, tmobile, and definitley att and its evil twin verizon. Besides under dog companies and the end of its rope usually twist a little more to keep you.. Atleast in my experience
my dumb ass left good ol sprint to try the lame storm, this phone needs atleast 2 more updates im locked in already pass my 30 dayz, ill cancel and put this trash on ebay to make up for the cancellation fee. verizons network is superb but its not worth paying a arm and a leg for.
Actually, it’s going from $0.75 to $0.99 – basically a 33% increase.

I thought you had 30-days from the time it takes affect to tell them you do not agree and can still leave. I emailed them over a week ago to terminate the account, and while I received several emails back from them saying the received the email request, I have not seen it happen yet. The email has been forwarded to executive care who emailed me just to tell me the case number… their customer service is horrible. I have a sero plan and still want out – it’s that bad for me in this area.
Oh man im dying to get out of sprint and thank god for this change now heres the thing…i need help..What exactly do i say when i call up sprint n tell them i want to cancel my contract without paying early term.?? SOMEONE plz HELP..Seriously
My EMAIL: peruchoo@aol.com
THX a million in advance
Crackberry718, I have a curve right now, but was wanting to leave Sprint for the Storm, apparently that would not be a good idea?
You shouldn’t be so happy to see Sprint go. With them gone, it brings us one step closer to a 2 carrier U.S. with only Verizon and AT&T left. Higher prices, data restriction and basically anything goes behavior from the remaining 2 will be the norm.
why leave?
they will go under soon enouggh, and all the sero nd grandfathered money losing plans will be out the window…probably bought up by Verizon to boot ha ha.
its .99 not .75 but I still love-a bgr
is it possible to cancel contract and still stay with them?
I tired a couple times, and was told I had to call back (0r chat back) when it was effective, than a couple days ago I did get them to waive it but it was the end of my billing cycle, so I had it turned back on, plus I couldn’t “port” my number supposedly, which is probably a lie. But I did get out for free though!
Just not sure what carrier to go next with, getting a curve off ebay, AT&T has the best signal where I live, but TMO is cheaper.
Sprint does have a great pricing though, did try to stay but the “get a new free phone” didn’t work. Wouldn’t mind signing a new two year contract though to get a smartphone (not a curve but a touch pro) or even a Motorola i9 (did say a number of phones, and didn’t work to get one at a discount or not)
I got out of four lines one was mine however my contract was up in early 2009 and the other three was a family plan that my girlfriend had that was up in 2010 ETF free it to like two hours though.
And a 1, and a 2, and a Row Row Row your Titanic gently down the bankruptcy stream, Merrily Merrily Merrily, Profits are but a dream…. A Chaaaa!
Kyles mom is a big bad bitch, the biggest bitch in the whole wide world….
Ok, I’m dying to take advantage of this increase and get out of my contract, but what do I say to the CC rep???
The 11th post says it all, if Sprint is gone who will push the big 2 to keep innovating and what would stop them from charging whatever they want.
Fewer cell co’s is not a good thing. The more that go down the tubes in our “free market” system (read the book “Free Lunch”), the closer we move toward monopolies. That’s bad. You like being able to only go with one of two choices? You like only being able to shop at Mall-Wart?
DON’T E-MAIL E-CARE!!!!!! just call the call center.. even if you don’t get the response you want the first time, call back, and call back.. sprint is now dedicated to customer satisfaction, or so i’ve been told by store employees… so, just have patience, and keep calling back..
Soon Sprint’s only customers will be SERO customers…
That’s why you don’t buy contract phones. The rest of the world will function fine especially since most of the amazing phones use GSM anyways. Screw CDMA
I have been having problems with sprint too. so what do you say when you call how do you work the loop holes plz help. I’ve been with nextel /sprint for 8 yrs and im so feed up.
Just keep calling back, one thing you can count on with Sprint, If you keep trying someone will screw up and do the right thing. It just might take a few calls. Although layoff’s are coming so employees may be afraid to do the right thing, unless someone knows they are getting laid off.
