I wonder when people will figure out that saying 3G is better than EDGE or vice versa proves a lack of telephony knowledge. 3G is a speed. EDGE networks are a type of GSM and may be 3G or may not be. All of AT&T is EDGE & a portion is EDGE 3G. EDGE 3G is faster than EDGE 2G.

WiFi is faster than 3G so I’d rather have WiFi if I had to pick. 3G speeds are dependant on the distance of the device from the tower – same as with WiFi and EDGE. Hell, I can stream from my slingbox at home to my phone flawlessly if I have a full EDGE signal – and WiFi of course. Slingbox for BB is tight!

I’m excited about GPS, almost doubled proc, 3.2MP camera, and tons of more RAM.

I used to look at Blackberries and think why would they not include 3G. It’s because they do what they’re intended to do incredibly well. They aren’t phones you do heavy web browsing on, or video calls. Besides the 8900 has Wi-Fi. These aren’t iPhones, or HTC devices. It’s all about the messaging, email, fast and stable OS (with the exeption of the storm), and good battery life. I’d say the pros far outweight the cons.

I also love that people compare AT&T’s 3G with T-Mobile’s network. I for one compare phones, not coverage, because it is truly incumbent upon what *I* need. My business and my life rely on messaging (e-mail, texts, and a calendar). Therefore, with its coverage being excellent in NYC (where I live and work) and the amazingly incredible discount in price, a Blackberry Curve 8320 was the *best* phone for me. Not even an iPhone, which I tried for a while, was worth what *I* wanted. “To each his own.” No one, not a single phone with 3G or lack thereof, can beg to differ otherwise. So yes, for me, when the 89XX comes out on T-Mobile, regardless of 3G or other features, so long as it lives up to getting me my e-mail, texts, updating my calendar and making calls when and where I need them–I’m good. Thanks. But I’m good.

Simply put, you have the Bold if you want 3G, the 8900 if you don’t. Simple. Luckily in New Jersey there is almost universal 3G coverage, no dropped calls, and even my iPhone 3G gets decent reception. To all the haters, sorry, you don’t have to rationalize getting TMobile 3G only in major cities, switch carriers there really is a difference. I highly doubt your EDGE is faster than my 3G connection. I charge my phone every night, so there really aren’t any cons to 3G for me personally and I happen to agree with BGR. It’s a nice addition to their line up, but it’s becoming a niche product with how widespread 3G is becoming.

I just get jealous of my buddies iphone. Although his 3G is sketchy and uses wifi as often as he can. At least his wifi seems to stay connected all the time unlike mine. I’ll have to figure out how to get my wifi working reliably.

I changed the QoS settings on my router and have the newest OS on my 8320…

Just 1.5 months away.

It’s pretty cool that T-Mobile allows users to finance the device and split up the payments in 4 chunks. Makes paying the full retail cost easier to swallow for those of us not eligible for the full 2 year subsidy discount.

Bryan: All those comments make sense regarding benefits to 3G, but T-Mobile doesn’t have an expanisve 3G network to take advantage of those features anyways.

Users will start complaining how those features only work in limited areas.

People love to complain

AT&T has a bigger 3G network than T-Mobile at the moment, but compared to VZW or Sprint, it’s still not that big either.

Both AT&T and T-Mobile rely heavily on WiFi to improve the customer experience.

3G would be nice to have. I have a 8320 on tmobile that I am happy with, but could use some faster data. I used to be on VZW.

Benefits of 3G:

-Voice and Data at the same time
-Faster Opera Mini browsing
-My WiFi/UMA connection doesn’t seem that reliable or available when I am out and about
-Google Maps and Streetview
-Streaming youtube or qik or slingbox
