XSKN makes no apologies, offers iPhone nano case for sale
So much for I’m sorry. It looks like XSKN is making no apologies for putting up iPhone nano case entries on its site as we discovered recently. Instead, the rogue retailer is now offering cases for sale. XSKN’s site is now littered with images of its iPhone nano case in a variety of color combinations and each is available for sale. Yup, $25 – $27 plus shipping will land you one of these cute new cases for a handset that many speculate will never exist. Sure, this is hardly solid evidence that we’re going to see the iPhone nano emerge any time soon and it is entirely possible that XSKN is allergic to repeat business and is just hoping to scam a handful of users out of a few pennies. On the flip side of the coin however, we might just be looking at a pretty good representation of a new Apple handset coming in the not-so-distant future. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – the question isn’t if Apple will hit the $100 price mark with a future handset, the question is when.
Thanks, Jon!

will the phone be smaller than the original iphone 3g?
I still dont believe the Nano rumor. There is absolutely no market for it. It would be a dumb move by Apple to detract from the already low price of $199 for the 3G. I still think this is false. Seriously, think about it. The only difference between the iPod Nano and the Classic is storage space. Apple already ditched the 4GB so why would they go back to it and then make it smaller? The iPhone is already small enough. So what else can they do? Make it 2G only? Nope, because then we’d be back to the 2G iPhone. The only way for there to be a $99 iPhone is when a 32GB comes out knocking the 8GB to $99 eventually. Why would they make a smaller version? Where is there a market for an iPhone Nano? The only reason people are talking about it is because of the rumors. If it actually dropped, I seriously doubt it would sell well. No one wants to sacrifice space, size, and functionality for $100 less. And besides, dont you think Steve Job would present them himself? Again, I call bullsh!t.
Uh…They didn’t make the iPod Nano to have less storage than the Classic. They made the iPod Nano to have a smaller, cheaper alternative to the iPod Classic that would appeal more to a younger demographic.
And iPhone Nano makes sense. It would be smaller, cheaper, and appeal more to people who want an iPhone but don’t want to pay for the mandatory data plan of a smart phone, want a smaller form factor, and a cheaper phone.
And I think Steve Jobs isn’t going to be hosting anymore keynotes as a sign of him retiring soon. Obviously something big is going to happen at MacWorld. The Mac Mini is obviously going to get a new design. Why isn’t Jobs presenting that, then?
The cases look like they’d fit a regular iPhone.. and isn’t the whole point of a Nano to be tiny? I don’t want a tiny phone. I drop things that are tiny.
The only way an iPhone nano would sell is if it were on Sprint, Verizon and T-mobile in the US.
NO ONE will walk into an AT&T store and see a nano beside a normal iPhone and pick the stunted version.
Now if the nano had a smaller screen but added a slide out qwerty then i see sales booming.
ok so what about this:
They take all the empty space out of the top of the iphone 3g and put the earspeaker closer to the screen, and make the button smaller(ipod touch style maybe) to take some space away from the bottom. Then they can keep pretty much the same screen size or make it just a bit smaller but not too drastically noticable. Now that would be KINDA cool. just make the phone smaller, but not the screen. Its just a thought, but what does everyone else think??
like civilian said,
screen is same size but the phone itself is smaller. perhaps it’s the new version of the iphone? maybe the manufacturer calls it “nano” due to lack of other naming options.
This reminds me of when companies were sending millions of dollars to SCO BEFORE the judgement came down??? There will be a few suckers.
@civilian
ever look to see whats inside an iPhone 3G? just as an FYI, there is no “empty space” that is usable to make a shorter or thinner phone. At least with the technology available today. I think this is a great way to draw attention to ones website. Bravo XSKN! If only everyone else took suit. Pretty soon it will be the boy who cried wolf syndrome. Albeit, I believe many girls prefer smaller phones, and I know plenty of gals who love the iPhone, but think its too large for them. Either way, don’t think this one is happening. Oh by the way, maybe this website will start selling cases for the new Mac Mini next week….
Look at Blackberry’s lineup. They have the Bold, but are about to release the Curve 8900. What’s the difference? The Curve 8900 is smaller and has no 3G. My guess is that the iPhone nano will be smaller and have no 3g. It will basically be like the original iPhone, except smaller. While the iPhone 3G is thin, it is still a big phone compared to most. Just compare it to other touch screen phones like the Eternity or LG Incite. I can see Apple coming out with a smaller iPhone without 3G. Remember that for those of us who do not use the data portion of the phone very often, EDGE speeds are just fine and we would rather have a smaller phone in our pockets.
@ Phug
But the States isn’t the only market for the iPhone…
Most of the world is on prepaid cellular plans. The iPhone is rather expensive when not tied to a contract and subsidized. An iPhone Nano with a lower pricetag could really be a huge hit.
Not sure, if this is true. But I went digging around the xskn page a little and found this link that talks about iPhone Nano, it even has model “pictures”. Decide for yourself:

@Manzura
Its awesome that the people that look at BGR are better at searching out info than BGR themselves. Great find for size comparison(as he XKSN site leaves much to the imagination with no specs on size). I would say this is a 1st gen guts with mods to fit into a newer case. Why not get rid of excess parts by calling it something else. Seems like its too long in the works. Guess we’ll see at the Macworld show…
After using the Diamond – and yes, the thicker Touch Pro – I just cannot see myself using the current iPhone. It is too wide and bulky for some reason. A smaller iPhone with less storage would be nice. And a nice higher rez screen like my Diamond. Come on Apple, give me some real reasons to switch other than hype and the fake ‘cool factor’.
@ Mitch
I’m aware that the iPhone is not a US only product but the US is the only place the iPhone is a contender.
The rest of the world has access to phones that destroy the crap we have here.
macrumors has a neat picture of the two conceptually side by side and end to end. i think it would sell great, to those who don’t want a larger phone. still no specs though, i’m sure it won’t have everything that the 2nd gen iPhone has. that is if it even exists…
What Mac should do is create the flip iPhone, or better yet, the iPhone Air, then it really can be the new Razr…lol
Size really does matter! I am on my 2nd Pearl and would love a new smartphone but one of the reasons I haven’t pulled the trigger is that the current top picks are too big. Phone size will decrease while maintaining the iPhone screen size as civilain suggests. The first cell phone weighed 90 lbs. and had none of the features of todays cell phones.

Can you imagine the lines if this Nano really ended up being a full featured device?
@jakeyoy,
yeah i get that there is no space for a reason in the iphone 3g, but we arent talking about that phone now correct?
but maybe they are just doing it to get attention to their site but we will soon see.
@civilian
check out the macrumors website and the link provided by Manzura. this gives a better description of size. i didn’t say it wasn’t possible, but what you were suggesting wasn’t possible.
true that jakeyboy. I was thinking that too afte the post. beccause if they are already having cases and when you look at the other pictures, the specs showing a smaller screen is going to happen if it does even come out. guess i just had wishful thinking. too bad though
This def is a reality. Like i mentioned about the $99 iphone rumor, the $100 discount (199 vs 100) isn’t what is keeping people from purchasing the iphone, it was the data plan.
So now apple can build an iphone nano with ipod capabilities, and some typical mid range features (think env2) WITHOUT A MANDATORY DATA PLAN.
Boom, millions of new sales. Everyone in the world ALREADY has an ipod, so in order to generate more sales, you make all those people want to go out and get an iphone nano.
I seem to remember that the I Phone is supposed to function as a Phone. does anyone remember this. Combine ATT crappy service, non achievement of ATT advertised 3 G Speed, I am sure surprised that anyone would even care. When this “phone” starts functioning effectively as a phone I would be delighted to own one. When ATT can be trusted to not drop so many calls I would be delighted to own one. Until then, enjoy your time surfing the net on your phone, I need a phone that can be depended on. Oh yeah, I probably need a phone that I can replace a battery by myself and a phone that has enough battery power to survive the day
Another apple design which will enlist all of you to be product testers for beta version of a work in progress. There is a sucker born every nano second.
@mw
actually, the 2nd gen iPhone battery is fairly easy to replace. I’ve been with AT&T when it was Bell South then Cingular then AT&T. Never had a dropped call in my life. At least AT&T has 3G. And what pray tell do you have?
I love the iphone nano…it’s so cute!
