T-Mobile Dash 2 in black floating around?

Thanks to one of our ninjas, we’ve just got a hold of a brand-new-looking T-Mobile Dash photo. Except, it’s in black, and sports subtle design changes like a different color combination on the keyboard, and…. stuff. We’re waiting for confirmation on whether this is just a color refresh (wouldn’t make sense this late in the product cycle) or if this unit has 3G added to it (think HTC S630, just cooler). What we have so far, is Windows Mobile 6 (available as an update on the original Dash) and Wi-Fi (also available on Dash v1.0). We’re waiting for our guy to hit us back with more specs, but we didn’t want to hold out on you. We’ll update this when we ourselves have an update!

UPDATE: Well, it turns out this is simply a color refresh that should be trickling into T-Mobile stores. Repeat after us… FAIL.

Thanks, Dominic!

Damn that’s pretty. I’ve always like the Dash, but no 3G killed the deal for me on getting one as a cheap 2nd phone.

    Boygenius,

It’s just a cosmetic refresh…a few bug fixes but no 3G. Really, its just a “prettier” looking version IMO.

I had the Dash, it was a tight phone even though I hate windows mobile. However this is not an update to the phone.. the difference is the color, same stuff inside as the old one… lame

This is just a Dash with a color refresh. The software is upgraded but it just fixes a couple bugs from the old dash, it is still windows mobile 6.0. All T-Mobile stores have these now they just aren’t selling them till they are out of the old ones.

    @ Steven..

so you would like to take the blackberry approach. repackage the device in a different form factor and jack the price up? pointless. the dash is a solid device.. change the color, add the 3G, bump up a few other things and you are good to go.

… why re do the entire thing to make it go from say a $200 price point to $349?

I like my dash but it would be disappointing if this is the new version as they look exactly the same, except the color.

It is the same dash just a color change, nothing news worthy here. It was released about the same time T-Mobile updated their OS for the Dash. Yes BGR readers T-Mobile updated their OS on the Dash. Don’t get to excited guys it is not 6.1. It wasn’t news worthy either. Didn’t get any type of news coverage at all. It was a very minor update that didn’t add any new functions to the device. The updated ROM was released to fix known issues such as phantom alarms.

If you have the dash you can update your rom free of charge at http://www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade.

The ‘Dash-2′ unfortunately will be a refresh, nothing substantial. WM 6.1; it will not have 3G or GPS; newer microSD card hardware; and will correct issues with the screen cracking so easily.

This, and the also non-3G 200ish mhz Shadow-2 are all we T-Mobile subscribers have to look forward to Windows Mobile-wise.

Personally, I wish T-Mobile was something other than the antique store of WM devices :(

this is NOT the Dash 2. this is more like a Dash refresh. the dash 2 will be out Q1 or early Q2 next year.

notice how it says “Dash” on the papers in the back. not “Dash 2″.

My dash was probably the most reliable phone I’ve had, would be nice with 3G & tethering in harmony. The primary reason I have the G1 now is 3G…waiting for a tethering app :)

The above post is correct, I met with my HTC rep, he had it in his pocket, it is only a new housing, no 3G, no new camera, same dash, new case

This is a 18th century device compared to what is out there and what TMobile should have out there.

It might be the photo fooling me but that keyboard looks to have key separation. The original Dash had vertical key separation but not horizontal key separation.

This was a big flaw in my opinion on the Dash when I was using mine a year ago.

Please stop hating on 18th century devices. I use a manual typewriter together with an old b&w television and an oscilating fan, and have been able to dual boot UNIX and WM 6.1.

I really liked my Dash before I ponied up for the G1. But without some internal upgrades its not worth the hassle. Not enough memory or processing power led to poor memory management by WinMo and reboots 3+ times a day to keep it going. And it really should have 3G.

Too bad, I really liked the forma factor.

with the hardware that’s in the device now it can barely keep up and the memory it lacks is a joke…why on earth would you want 3G on it? it would need a complete hardware makeover otherwise there is no advantage to having 3G on that device…that’s probably why it’s not there in the first place.
