LogMeIn launches LogMeIn Ignition for iPhone and iPod Touch

LogMeIn users rejoice! The creator of one of the most popular remote computer access solutions available has just announced the availability of its iPhone / iPod Touch application. Now, Apple handset owners can use the new LogMeIn Ignition app to access any and all of their registered computers while on the go – or from the couch if they’re just too lazy to get up and move to a computer. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the solution, LogMeIn allows users to remotely access and control any PC or Mac anywhere in the world. A small program is installed on the computer(s) you wish to access and as long as the software is running and connected, you can take control of it from any computer using a standard web browser – without having to download or install any software. Simply log into your account, choose the computer you’d like to access from your list and viola – you’re looking at your remote computer screen in a matter of seconds. Now, the same can be said for the iPhone and iPod Touch, short of the ‘no software to install’ part of course. Upon opening the LogMeIn ignition app, you’re presented with a list of your available computers. Choose the one you’d like to connect to and boom, you’re done. The remote computer’s screen is displayed on your handset and you have access to a whole host of standard functions and controls. iPhone / iPod Touch owners with a need for mobile remote computer access should most definitely check LogMeIn Ignition out, which rings up at a reasonable $29.99.

Eager to see a user review of this – sounds very promising (I use LMI) but $30 calls for some due diligence :)

Glad to see them join the party. But you can save a ton of money with a little tweaking. Just get Jaadu VNC $24.95 (one time expense), Mocha VNC $5.99, Mocha VNC Lite free, or WinAdmin $11.99 – Windows Remote Desktop client using RDP. These all have been available in the App Store for some time. I have been using Jaadu VNC and WinAdmin for quite awhile to manage desktops and servers.

The price tag may make it prohibitive the legions of cheap SOBs (like myself) using the free version of their excellent product. Especially when you consider that WM devices can do the same thing for free.

well with the amount of money we saved by ditching gotomypc to support remote employees, surely we can afford the $30 per IT staffer for this.. since we all have iphones or ipod touches anyway. I can’t wait to try it out!

    @ RS:

WM can do this for free for Windows machines (RDP) using Terminal services now called remote desktop. Port and routers have to allow this however. The last three WM phones we received had the Terminal Services component left out on the WM 6 phones? Go figure! VZW neutering? I do not know, but the older VZW WM phones we replaced had it. Since it is Windows only for remote desktop, it is not as useful to some users.

We are using Jaadu VNC and WinAdmin (RDP) on iPhones now, works great!

$30 is a bit pricey, but I guess LMI has to compensate the expenses somehow…I use a remote access service called Techinline (http://www.techinline.com) and even though it’s not as feature loaded as LMI Rescue, it’s a fraction of the price, and personally I didn’t use 80% of the features they offered anyways…I’m very happy with the service and would recommend it to small businesses which simply can’t fork out over $100 a month for a remote access tool
