So once the phone is unlocked, any sim card can be put into it at anytime? I’m planning to go through a few european countries, so would the phone and its features(gps) work if I changed the card in each country?

iPhone is NOT CDMA. VZW was stupid enough to reject the iPhone when it was offered! Unlocking would be useful if when traveling you wanted to get a local SIM card in that country if you wanted to save money. Or run the iPhone on T-Mobile in the US (god knows why).

Why would people bother with this? There are officially unlocked versions of the iPhone all over ebay for practically the same price as the locked US versions. As far as I know, the ones overseas are identical to the US version. Maybe I am wrong, but it seems too much trouble to go to for a mediocre phone that has proven to have an insane amount of restrictions even when it is unlocked.

This maybe a stupid question but I read somewhere awhile ago that said an unlocked 3G iphone would be able to work on the verizon network as the phone has a CDMA radio? Any truth to this?

The iPhone 3g has been jailbroken but not previously soft unlocked (unlocked for any carrier by only software means), previous unlocks either required the device to have a sim insert which tricked the phone into thinking you were using a ATT sim, or required cracking the phone open and bypassing the security chip by re soldering certain circuits (as done by some company in asia), this is a simple program you load onto the phone and its done.

I just bought a new iPhone 3g, and I don’t understand the hoopla around this unlock.
Has the iPhone 3g not been unlocked or jailbroken yet? Or is this unlock free from accidental bricking by future updates? What’s unique about this unlock? I iz confused.

Anyone know how he got the display on his screen? Is this the same as the hack that allowed people to play games on the remote display? If so, how do you enable it for a generic, always on situation?
