Actual T-Mobile G2 information… maybe

We just got a tip about the next Google Android-powered handset for T-Mobile, yes, the G2. We’re running this as a rumor as it’s definitely not confirmed, but we’d bet on this turning out to be true as opposed to, well, you know… Here’s what our tipster had to say:

  • The product specs on the T-Mobile G2 that CellPhoneSignal ran weren’t actually all that far off, just the date was completely wrong.
  • The device is a full touch device and there is no physical QWERTY keyboard.
  • There is still a trackball at the bottom.
  • The launch was delayed from late February to April due to software issues.
  • We’ve been informed this device will actually launch on another global carrier besides T-Mobile as well, though they didn’t say who, and they said that the G1, G2, G3, etc., names are trademarks of T-Mobile and the other carrier would have a different product name for the device other than G2.
  • There is supposedly (oh, god) a G3 coming not that far after the G2 but our tipster didn’t see the G3.

Ah! Maybe that’s why HTC isn’t bringing a Touch HD to America… Makes sense now doesn’t it? Again, full on rumor status at the moment, but we figured we’d warm your souls with this bit of info on this cold ass night.

Not everyone wants to copy the iphone robert b! Some of us do appreciate the customizable features other touch screens offer where as your stupid iphone is just a dedicated page with buttons. Not all of us appreciate a touch screen keyboard because we actually like the feel of pushing down on a real button rather than hitting a touch screen and another character populates in the field. Iphone users need to get over themselves and stop thinking that the iphone was the first touch device ever. You forget the palm treos and older blackberrys were touch. Your IPHONE can suck ASS because its not the virgin mary in this mobile world, its the antichrist to all those who despise the iphone and its apple app store with ridiculous prices for a program. It should be like the android market where community users can create or suggest programs and they are soley dedicated to users for FREE!!! So take your Iphone out of your ass and realize that Google Androids are taking over this market!!!!!

While everyone is trying to scramble and catch up to the iPhone, Apple is in their labs designing even more innovative features to throw in their next-gen piece. I have a G1, and the iPhone just has superior build quality both with hardware AND software. I’ll still never get one though just because then i’d hafto also drive a VW Jetta :P

No, really though.. people need to STOP trying to play catch-up to the iphone and just design something of their own that is more successful. What is that? Beats me.. if i knew that then i wouldn’t be wasting my time on this website.

From the rumors I’ve heard the phone does have a physicle keyboard, better signal holder(cause the g1 has lost a lot of calls,at least for me) and they have a possible release date and it will be late january early febuary but again these are rumors…. I love my g1 but of couse there needs to be some tweaking (I know its the first one and they will have probs and they did a great job) they are making the g2 a lot better and more “sexier” cause the g1 has that chin thing lol. Well its all I got from reading maybe if I find out more ill post more about the g2

I’ve had the O2 mini S for ages now, and although it’s got a phyical keypad, i never hardly use it. The thing’s way too small to actually touch type and you’re generally confined to either using just your thumbs or a finger. So for me, using a software-based keypad is just as effective, either with or without the stylus that’s provided. I would sooner have a slim designed, non-keyboard handset that can easily slip into my pocket anyday. If you want a device to type into that’s got a dedicated and practical keypad, get a friggin notebook pc! As for me, i’ll have an HTC touch HD running android please, and if T-Mobile bring out such a version (hopefully March/April), called the G2, they’ll have my order straight away!

If G2 would not be released around end of January 2009, many customers would be disappointed and may drop the idea of buying a G phone or may compromise buying an I-phone or may be G1. Speaking of me being an android application developer, I am waiting for G2 very badly since I need the android phone to test my applications also I don’t have any 3G phone with me!

this is so photoshopped from the HTC Touch HD … i would like to see the G2, but if you look at a pic of a Touch HD the hardware from the front looks exactly the same except for the buttons.

I dont know about this G2. I bought the G1 simple for the full touch screen and the flip out qwerty keyboard features. Seems to me that HTC is duplicating prior phones. The flip out keyboard was a BIG selling factor for me. Lets wait and see!

If this is photo shopped then htc needs to just go ahead and remake the HD like the above pic as the G2. I wanted the HD but the 3G doesn’t work here in the states. And having the Android OS is a plus too. DO IT HTC! DO IT!!!!

But then again I remember reading a magazine that said by the time htc has a chance to manufactor touch HD’s to work in the US that the phone would have become obsolete. So unless HTC plans on makin a new phone with an old case we won’t see this phone a the G2. Plus here is the original picture that this photo shopped phone came from. It was a nice thought tho.

Oh and DarkCloud25 does make a lot of sense people. I was thinking about getting the G1 this weekend but all this makes me want to wait but then again…
It is probably all rumors, photoshop, and anticipation. The G2 probably won’t come until like Late 09 or spring 2010

Well, here we are in March 09 and no T-Mo G2. From the Net it looks like April.

And this is an ALTERNATIVE to the G1, for those who want an iPhone type device, sans physical keyboard.

My understanding is that Google and T-Mo will not make the same mistake as Apple did (angering consumers), so the G1 will be upgradable to the same features the G2 will have (video capturing, etc.)

Think about it. There are many people who want a keyboard, there are others who like the full screen, no keyboard concept (that results in a thinner profile, etc.)

I have used Blackberries for years, mainly because of the devices having a keyboard. I won’t buy a phone without a KB.

Any carrier having an ounce of sense would not force potential customers to phones without a KB. No, the wiser move is to have products that appeal to as large a customer base as possible. E.g., have a phone with a KB, one without.

So this G2 should not be looked at as a replacement for the G1, it’s simply giving customers another choice.

Me, I will stick with the G1. Will never go to a screen-based keyboard. But there are others who think the opposite, they perceive a keyboard as antiquated.

Does the g2 have flash player or is it still strictly youtube.
That’s all the phone really needs. But the touchscreen keyboard should be pretty cool

Keep waiting. For some reason many people seem to find moving to all touch screen and no physical keyboard is an improvement. if they lose the keyboard for G2. I doubt they are gonna bring it back for G3

I think the HTC Magic which has already been released in Europe is going to be the G2. It has not pull out keyboard which i’ll miss and is generally my fav thing on all the HTC phones I’ve had in the past. It will however include video capture which the G1 doesnt currently have. Check it out. It has a sleek design comes in Black, Bronze or White(sound familiar) and there is a kind of curving bottom where buttons are located also reminiscent of G1 but much much more beautiful a phone.

I think its gay that it doesn’t have a keyboard. Not everyone likes full touch. If it does happen with extras and upgrades I hope my g1 will be upgraded. The only thing I think that needs to change is flash player needs to be available.
