Actual T-Mobile G2 information… maybe

We just got a tip about the next Google Android-powered handset for T-Mobile, yes, the G2. We’re running this as a rumor as it’s definitely not confirmed, but we’d bet on this turning out to be true as opposed to, well, you know… Here’s what our tipster had to say:
- The product specs on the T-Mobile G2 that CellPhoneSignal ran weren’t actually all that far off, just the date was completely wrong.
- The device is a full touch device and there is no physical QWERTY keyboard.
- There is still a trackball at the bottom.
- The launch was delayed from late February to April due to software issues.
- We’ve been informed this device will actually launch on another global carrier besides T-Mobile as well, though they didn’t say who, and they said that the G1, G2, G3, etc., names are trademarks of T-Mobile and the other carrier would have a different product name for the device other than G2.
- There is supposedly (oh, god) a G3 coming not that far after the G2 but our tipster didn’t see the G3.
Ah! Maybe that’s why HTC isn’t bringing a Touch HD to America… Makes sense now doesn’t it? Again, full on rumor status at the moment, but we figured we’d warm your souls with this bit of info on this cold ass night.

This really whets my appetite for the G2. If it’s anything like the HTC HD, I’m sold.
Is what the phone is supposed to like or just an alteration?
wtf no keyboard?!?!?!?
guess ill be waiting for the G3
BG, this looks a lot like what T.J. posted on the previous post… and according to another link on phonedog, or something like that it was a totally inaccurate rumor. that picture looks like a total photoshop. I’m putting this in the b/s folder…
however it does look like a super nice andriod device if it was true.
damn. I’m running out of pockets…but that would be a lovely phone…
From all the reviews I read it seemed that the only thing holding back the Touch HD was Winmo. This could be pretty sweet. If this was the initial Android phone I can only imagine how many more units T-mo would have sold. I would definitely have one on my desk.
The phone looks great and like someone mentioned it maybe photoshop. The question is why keep this such a secret with so little time before it’s “release”. I am a t-mobile customer and love them for their plans. Besides that here in the U.S. T-mobile treats us like the pits. Are behind on things and they need to hurry up and drop some big bombs to compete with other providers.
Of course it’s a photoshop. It’s a HTC Touch HD with ’shopped buttons on the bottom.
no keyboard….makes me sad….will wait…hopefully g3
thank god I didn’t buy the G1
..
…now I can get a great looking phone on android
There is literally nothing there we didn’t already know.
It doesn’t have a front facing camera. Why would it have T-Zones and Web2go?! Please please please step back and look at all this information before you post.
Do you think CPS was the only site that got the tip about that phone? No. They were the only one that originally published it as fact though…without researching the information. Then you guys jumped on the bandwagon and republished blatantly false information.
There is lots more images uploaded to our site for the G2:

You know what’s funny? I think that if HTC made a Touch HD with Android running on it and added a trackball and have the call, home, back, and end buttons on the front of it and they would have a winner in my book. I really like the G1, but I don’t like the fact that it feels semi-cheap. I need my phone to have better build quality than what the G1 currently offers.
If the G2 turns out to be the Touch HD with a trackball i’m 90% sold.
I worrry about how Android apps will work without a real keyboard.
If App developers are allowed to easily transfer their iPhone apps over to Android then i’m 100% sold and i will become one of those nerds that wait in line for launch day
I am posting from my g1 and I love my physical qwerty keyboard. The keyboard is a must have for me.
So will the G3 have 3G? Maybe they’ll call it the G3 3G. Talk about a confusing naming convention.
That’s exactly why they didn’t bring the Touch HD to the states
I like that it still has the trackball.
It looks like it has a front facing camera to me. See the little circle top right. Looks just like the camera on the Touch Pro.
This ISN’T the G2. This is a photoshop, one of many versions from someone on one of the forums. Why this is even posted as a “tip” or rumor is beyond me. You can easily find many versions by this same person that created this.
like JR said, this is not ACTUALLY the G2. its merely for “pleasure to the eyes” purposes.
@ ryaninc, the G1 has 3G, the G2 will have 3G and so will the rest of T-Mobiles high end phones. wtf r u talking about?
from all the other rumors i’ve heard about this, the information provided is very true except for a few things. let me correct them.
1. there will be no front facing camera
2. it will NOT have web2go
3. it will NOT be launched on another carrier
4. it wont come until AT LEAST the summer, and if it does, it will most like be a compliment to the G1 and not a successor, which makes sense on why the G3 will launch closely after.
Losing the qwerty keyboard and keeping the trackball is what BlackBerry should have done with the Storm. The trackball is another one of those trademarks that says BB.
HTC Touch HD FTW…having said that it takes a really good phone to compliment the fact it has no physical keyboard. Having tried out a bunch of touchscreens the blackberry is the only one to come close to feeling comfortable. Still not perfect but the haptic touch is a big help, me thinky I’d also pass on this one but its a beautiful device.
Aw I’m buying the G1 next week. Now I’m not sure if I should buy it or just wait for this thing. But then again, I don’t want to deal with a whack ass touch keyboard. Ugh but the HTC HD is so pretty.
