T-Mobile G2 to be released on January 26th?
Yeah, we’re going to have to go ahead and file this one pretty low on the rumor totem pole, but supposedly T-Mobile is planning to release its second Android-powered handset just over a month from now. According to a leaked document from an anonymous CellPhone Signal tipster, the G1 sequel will be released on January 26th and will be dubbed, you guessed it, the G2. While the manufacturer isn’t specified, if it is real we have to assume HTC will be responsible for having nailed it together. As for specs, it’s no slouch:
- Android OS
- 3G, EDGE, GPRS and WiFi
- Stereo Bluetooth
- Touchscreen
- Enterprise Capable
- 5 Megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash
- Secondary front-facing VGA camera
- Memory card Slot (up to 16GB)
- Mobile Backup
- Music and Video Player
- Picture Messaging
- Real web browsing
- Speakerphone
- PC sync
- USB interface
- Video capture and playback
- Video Messaging
- Voice Dialing
- myFaves capable and T-Zones (web2go)
Wow. If it’s real it should be quite an upgrade from the G1, though we worry that there is no mention of a physical keyboard on the document. Of particular note is the presence of a front-facing camera; apparently T-Mobile will also be launching a video calling service towards the end of January and the G2 will be one of T-Mobile’s first video call-capable devices. Yay, the service everyone talks about but no one uses! We’ll keep our collective ear to the ground with the hope that more solid info will come to light soon.

this is an absolute low point for BGR. look at the source, yo: cell phone signal is the most inaccurate rumor site around. this WILL NOT happen, trust me

I like rumors as much as the nice guy and got excited about the posibility of an improved version of the G1 comming out soon. Shortly after reading your post my excitement went away. Shame on you for using a bogas wantabe tech site like phonesignal.com as a resorce. They are the grocery tabloids of the tech blogs and I wouldn’t put any faith in any story the report.

This is totally false, period!! cellphonesgnal is just lookin for hits to there site, There are grammer errrors on the “supposed” document, as there is no space between program and January. Good job of photo shop tho, hmm and funny about the PC Sync thing when its not even on the Android Roadmap, as well as why the HEll would the Android phone have T-zones? T-zones doesnt even exist and it surely isnt on an android phone.

Just give it Exchange support and streaming media playback and I would be happy. Still, this has got to be bogus. They would never put out an update so soon after the original.

well there IS a chance of some truth to this. the fact still remains the samsung t929 is set to come out in tmobile around that time period and it also had a front facing camera for video calls so that would match up with timeline of tmo releasing the service. (the service would obviously need a few handsets capable of performing)

It seems as if some of you glanced over the first line of this story,”Yeah, we’re going to have to go ahead and file this one pretty low on the rumor totem pole.”
In an effort to bring their subscribers the latest and greatest they would have to post this. While I think it’s false, atleast it will get people talking and maybe somebody in the know at T-mo will let something slip.

When I read the article, it appeared to come across in a bad asian accent with grammar errors. Not that I’m some english grammar freak, but proper english does give any article a little more credibility.
I got so excited after reading about it. Now I’m disappointed that it might be completely false.

Okay the G2 isn’t a rumor it is not coming to the OS and video calling I won’t even bother explaining the G1 is getting some new features and the G2 doesn’t have a physical keyboard. See kids it always helps to do research.

Zach made it clear in the very first sentence in this post that he was taking this with a grain of salt so stop the flames for him posting this. Now MingKee is right: This “G2″ would have been spotted on the FCC website before it’s spotted ANYWHERE else since sites like BGR, Phonescoop, Engadget, etc. check the FCC website religiously. Aside from the 5 MP camera the mention of a videocalling feature piqued my interest. If they will be doing this then we T-Mobile US users won’t be so far behind the curve anymore in relation to T-Mobile UK…
