    That’s huge for the iPhone. Apple will NOT allow discounts on this. That’s HUGE. Sad, but true.

    Gee – this wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that Wal-Mart has the iPhone coming would it???

    Be careful of activating in stores not owned and operated by the carriers themselves. Chances are is that they are not the most qualified people to be asking network related questions, app store related questions, and besides Apple store employees and AT&T employees will set up however many e-mail accounts you need for free. So what Best Buy will set up your first e-mail account for free, how much does it cost for each one thereafter? You are better off shelling out the extra $10 to deal with people who are more qualified than Best Buy employees who have to sell more than just AT&T products & services. The tradeoff is that they aren’t as knowledgeable as the people who’ve been selling it for the last year and a half.

    Joe Daddy is a schill, how about the Apple Stores? They are not owned by the carrier, hmm. The people in the AT&T stores are not always good either, really its hit and miss. sometime you get someone good and another time you will get the dunce. Granted it is Best Buy and they are notorious for bad cs, but so are the carriers and their stores.

    The Walmart deal is most likely the reason for this…I guess Apple’s employing new tactics in a fickle economy.

    how hard is it to setup a personal email account on an iphone really? i could teach a monkey to do it…you hit like 3 buttons enter in your email info and your all set if they wanna sweeten the deal they should throw in a free case or something….otherwise im going to an att store.

    Are you kidding Joe Daddy? Paying extra for the “service” you get at AT&T or an Apple store? That is laughable. When I bought my 16GB 3G at the local AT&T store the sales rep did nothing for me except keep my sim removal tool. I’ve set up all of my own email accounts. It is anything but a complicated process.

    Besides it isn’t like you can’t walk into an AT&T store at any time and have them set up an email account for you.

    The people at Best Buy Mobile have the same training as AT&T people have and many Best Buy’s also have Apple ASC’S on site. I believe employees at Best Buy are far friendlier then AT&T stores!

    Well Dtest54, keyboard toughguy, it’s shill not schill, and you must’ve missed the point. Apple who just happens to manufacture the product might be able to offer you better product specific knowledge then Best Buy’s counterparts. AT&T might be able to offer you a more comprehensive experience when it comes to network capabilities, and personal experience. A good tip is to go look for the person who is actually using it, they MAY be able to better answer your questions. If I made it sound like the carriers corporate owned retail store employees are infallible then I apologize and I stand corrected. As for you Dtest54 being a tool, well then there’s no excuse. To the rest of you, best of luck with whatever decision you make. Ultimately the phone is a great phone, it’s not for everyone, but ultimately that’s for you to decide. Have a great day.

    In response to RTon20s’s comment, I’m sorry your experience at the AT&T store was so laughable that you decided to KEEP your 16GB 3G iPhone. I’m sure the sales reps have better things to do than to purposefully keep your SIM removal tool, which by the way could easily be replaced with a common household/office item such as a paperclip. Have a great day.

    I think I speak for most people (at least on this site), that we buy phones for what they do, not because the employees at whatever store we buy it at can BS us better..but in an event, the iphone is extremely user friendly.. more than even a Razr in my opinion so I don’t see what the big fuss is about

    NO activation problems with the iPhone, that only happened on the first few weeks of release waaaaay back in July. I activated two iPhone at home after buying them in a store without ANY issues at all. Took two minutes!

    @joe daddy

    That is untrue. Though they may not be the best, there are apple employees as well as AT&T employees who don’t know nothing either! Also EVERY best buy has an AT&T representative for their store that they can call when they need help. How do I know? Because I’m one of those AT&T reps for best buy in the bay area!

    Best Buy’s in Nebraska don’t sell AT&T products & services. I was just at one of them, and I called to 4 other locations in the area to see if I could get an iPhone and none of them knew what I was talking about.

    I’m confused I guess. It says early qualified upgrade customers still pay the same price. I though if you paid that price, you could get one regardless of whether you were eligable for an upgrade or not, and just extend your contract. Am I wrong in this?

    Chris says:

    ndcart: You can always buy it at $399 IF you are eligible to extend your contract. You aren’t allowed to extend your contract if you have a past due balance or too many non-pay suspensions in a short time period. Because the iPhone requires a contract those people couldn’t get one no matter how much they wanted to pay. For those who actually pay their phone bill however, there’s no reason you can’t get one at $399 anytime.
