Upcoming 2009 handsets from Motorola pose for BGR on their way to Verizon

Well lookie here. Motorola apparently has a few tricks up its sleeve that might just surprise us in the coming year. Well they would have any way, if our trusty ninja didn’t come through with the goods! Moto fans, feast your eyes on four sexy handsets coming your way in what is shaping up to be Motorola’s final shot at survival. For the time being details are slim; in fact pretty much all we have are images, the knowledge that they’re all hitting Verizon Wireless, code names and a 2009 time frame (though we do know the RUSH 2 will be out during Q1, likely early in the quarter). We’re seeing some big changes here in terms of common styling cues from Moto – just look at the FLASH, pictured above. Sharp angles and raised, blended buttons – it actually looks pretty hot! There’s plenty more where that came from of course, so hit the jump for shots of the other three handsets.
RUSH 2:

CALGARY:

INFERNO:

unless one or all of these phones is running android or some new OS, it wont really matter. Verizon needs to understand that the world is shifting towards the smartphone market. creating an “iphone killer” than runs a dumbphone OS is just foolish.
FLASH: Form factor looks really nice, but Motorola is going to have to have some pretty slick software tricks (ala Touch Flow 3D, etc.) in order to set it apart from other WinMo devices. I don’t even know if having some hot hardware and a slick capacative touch screen would be enough to seperate it from the pack.
RUSH 2: Nothing outstanding, but it will sell. If anyone knows there is a market for QWERTY dumbphones, it’s Verizon. Depending on specs, it could be a serious contender for the ENV2.
CALGARY: A high end dumb QWERTY? Direct competition for the Quickfire? A lot of potential here, but still a curious device. The flush stainless keypad works well for a number pad, but a full QWERTY? And as others have mentioned… where is the camera? Also, what is the curious “bump” at the top of the back of the phone? Integral projector?
INFERNO: Looking very much like a Krave 2. The form factor is decent, but I don’t see this making a big splash. It might sell well, but it will never get anywhere close to RAZR status.
Just my 8 cents.
Looks like Moto has changed its Corporate identity a bit; the big M is now off-center, not in the center as previous.
@RTon20s
Calgary looks more like a consumer-level WinMo device.
to the guy that asked there will be no VZW palm stuff
another set of boring mot bs, you should buy them to support their management (they need their fat paychecks) …
These are really nice looking handsets and still people find a way to bash Moto. I really do not get it??
The Calgary looks upside down.
Android on these, pleeease!
Rush me the Rush 2!
Moto is back.!!!!!
Where’s the Napoleon that BGR scooped months ago? I haven’t seen that phone, so I assume I won’t ever see these either.
it is.
look at the flash, it could be a win-mobile phone. see the windows button there?
@ NR
I have heard some info that leads me to think otherwise, if its wrong its wrong. I’ll just have to wait until CES and see.
But if what I heard was correct, it may be one of the best handsets they have ever released.
Gosh, what an original form-factor — NOT. Why bother copying iPhone’s form-factor (plus or minus a few silly elevated nubs)? There’s no way Moto can match the iPhone software’s elegance — or 10,000 third party apps. Unless Moto has figured out how to radically improve the experience — such as much better Web access (iPhone’s is great compared to other phones but still lousy compared to a laptop) — then this ain’t going to save Moto.

Same Shit Different Day.
Their next phone should be called Moto Doomed.
This is exactly what I have been looking for. Have the Voyager, want a touch screen + a physical qwerty. Retunring my dare today, back to my voyager and will save my upgrade. The Calgary looks like just what the Dr ordered.
@ Steve
no offense but you’re clueless. u really think that just because its a touch screen only phone its an iPhone copier? ever heard of the Prada phone by LG? cam out a few months before the iPhone. so now the iPhone’s a Prada copier?? i dont think so. get ur facts straight.
I F’s with the flash (literally gets on and goes to work)
N97 beats it:

so does the E71:

MOT is not NOK, even thought they would like to be right now…
@CWanty
You do understand that Flash is WinMo, don’t you?
Garlique what’s wrong there boy? You just like to talk for the sake of it? What specs have been released of either of these phones for you to say the N97 (which I love btw) beats it or even the E71? makes no sense.
Why not CDMA, best Network coverage in America, GSM is very limited and does have the best coverage worldwide but most people don’t travel worldwide to make it worth while. Besides Verizon is the largest carrier in the Nation, why not make your last shot at the carrier most subscribers?
I have att and they suck. Thinking about going with VZW and the CALGARY phone is my future phone. Fuck att and my current phone, the HTC Fuze POS!
Actually, Verizon has the Storm, Dare, and the Omnia (which is freakin awesome, with 8gig internal memory and 5mp camera), with much more to come. Not to mention the largest and most reliable network…They’re also number one in customer satisfaction!
Motorola, there are two things you need to do for these phones to succeed:
capacitive touchscreen (a la iPhone)
and make the buttons of good quality- no squishyness, hard to pressness.
if this comes out, it’s mine.
I just want an updated Motorola Q. I love my 3 year old Q!
