Former RIM exec signs up with Samsung

Perhaps feeling a little bit smug after experiencing 10.9% growth in its smartphone division in September and October, Samsung has gone and hired former RIM executive Marcus Stone. Having previously worked in sales and marketing for RIM, Stone’s business card will say that he’s the Head of Smartphones for UK and Ireland. His assigned task is to help develop and oversee what Samsung General Manager Derek Williamson is billing as some “incredible products for next year.” Another Samsung hire is Nick France, who will assume the role of Business Solutions Sales Manager. There’s no doubt that Samsung can make one hell of a handset, but is it one of the first five companies you think of when you hear smartphone? Didn’t think so.

What about the Instinct? Or the Behold? Hell, even the Rant is just an operating system away from smartphone status. Honestly, Samsung is definitely among the five names (along with RIM, Apple, Nokia and HTC). If not our boys from Korea, who would be in the top five? Moto-fuckin’-rola?

Methinks BGR is talking out its rear again.

Well it appears that he left Rimm so he must have seen that the growth phase for Rimm is over

I don’t know those guys. But for sure in 2009 things will be so HOT, that everyone must be scrambling and 12 months from now a lot of heads will be rolling.

Samsung seem to go in the right direction but SE, HTC, PALM, and even BB have no guarantees

wait for the big surprises. Charts will be up side down.

lol, just because you’re short on RIMM, it doesn’t mean you need to invent news.
