Confirmed: Palm Treo Pro coming to Sprint in January
It’s been almost a month since we first broke the scoop on the Treo Pro coming to Sprint next month but it looks like there’s finally confirmation. A leaked Sprint time line for January seals the deal and confirms that we’re looking at a January release for Palm’s most recent and least offensive handset. The Treo Pro will first become available via Brightpoint on Wednesday January 21, followed by a full release on Sunday January 25. As for pricing, don’t be scared off by the $549.99 listed on the document above as that is the unsubsidized price. No word yet on the subsidized pricing but expect it to be in the $200+ range out of the gate. Also of note on the leaked document are the coming of a pink Samsung Instinct and a purple Samsung rant on January 11, available through direct fulfillment only. So Sprinters, are we happy or still wanting more?

The discontinuing of the Treo 800w is at least as big news as the intro of the Treo Pro.
already a subscriber!
wrong thread!
Being a fairly new Sprint subscriber (left T-Mobile in November after five years with them), I do have to say the selection of phones is quite good as is the voice quality and reception. I couldn’t say that five years ago, when I was looking to switch from VZW; Sprint’s phones were plain crap.
All that said. The Treo is a nice phone, so it should help Sprint lure some customers (and bring back a few others). But Sprint really needs to bring the Android phone or, hell, get Microsoft to finally launch a Zune-phone for the hard-core smartphone types. And given the success of the Samsung Rant (got it, love it) and the LG Lotus, Sprint also needs to add more smartphone tweeners (or text-messaging phones with strong 3G and e-mail capacity) too. A Rant with full push-e-mail, for example, would lure in those entrepreneurs who need a BlackBerry-like device, but not all the BlackBerry features.
This, along with the improvements in customer service and the sweet $99 all-included plan, will do more for the company in the long run than advertising that it’s cheap. Even in this economy, cheap isn’t the selling point one may imagine it to be.
I decided to stay with Sprint and upgraded to the HTC Touch Pro. The selection of quality smartphones is disappointing, but I shopped around heavily and Sprint offered the best plan for what I need. I’m saving $15-$20 a month and to me that’s not worth switching for an Iphone, Bold, Storm, etc.
Good luck to Sprint. They are losing customers left and right, but maybe things can stabilize soon. They need a WOW phone. Maybe something is in the works…….. android phone? This Palm phone certainly ain’t it.
It’s about time!
I’m still not impressed, I don’t think any else ether. I’ve been a sprint subscriber for the past 7 years but I’ve been think about jumpin ship since the release of the cdma omnia @ verizon. Ive had the 755 now for about a year & a half & its decent but they need to bring out some phones that are going wow there customers.something exclusive. verizon – touch blackberry, omnia t-mobile – g1 , at&t – iphone, sprint – ???…… nothing too exciteing.no word on any thing exciteing in the future plus they cut out there corporate discount on those everything plans. ima give them 2 more months then I gotta go…lol
best buy has had the purple rant for a awhile now and if i remember correctly 1/25/09 best buy is getting the pink instinct
Great news. It will delay inevitable demise of Palm by another 3-6 months
Palm + Sprint + 1st-Gen OS = _Catastrophic_Failure_
The Bold, Storm, Omnia and Eternity are the only smartphones not offered by Sprint, that aren’t superwow but IMO the smartphone is the majority of the wow
@ addicted and mush you guys do realize the touch pro and diamond are the two most powerful phones in the us right.. and that sprint is next in line for htc and android.. wait till sprints version of the touch hd hits.. maybe a lil wimax maybe a lil slide out keyboard maybe a lil android.. maybe winmo 6.5.. just wait honestly at&t is winnin the phone game by far they have the best winmo, best blackberry, iphone, an 8 megpix comin, an you will soon have android if they dont already on wm..
I’d REALLY like to see an “iPhone MAX” to run on the world’s 1st 4G network. GO WiMAX!!!
This is a move of subtle genious. Rather than targeting iPhone, Rim or HTC, the big brains at Palm have charted a stealth course bound to confound and confuse the competition — they have targeted their own 800W.
Hey Zach, my name is BJ DeHut and I am a representative for Sprint. Thanks for posting the news about the Palm Treo Pro. This phone has been getting a ton of great press and we are very happy to be adding it to our lineup. We continue to work hard on bringing our users the best phones so thank you very much for the up to date reporting about the release of this phone. Our users and we appreciate the information. Thanks again!
@ bj
Will you ever get the iPhone?
BJ,
Thanks! I was thinking of getting an 800w but now I will wait.
Won’t you get in trouble for giving out confidential and damaging corporate information? Boy Genius doesn’t work for Sprint and has no employee or contractor agreement, so he is not held liable for damaging Sprint due to reprinting or publishing rumors. But if you are a Sprint employee you just, how shall I put this, farked yourself.
I would only say that if bgr decided to give the users info, still having this handset is a good thing
Anyone hoping that they made a typo and the Palm Pre is coming out on this day? The device looks almost perfectly ready for release from the videos I’ve seen (in fact, much more ready than the Storm is now…)
The Pre has me itching to buy, this Pro was never an option. I was trying to push the 800 on my BM but she insist on the berry Centro. She didn’t care about it when it came out but is in love with that color, which is why neither the 800, Pre or any other suits her now. I’m looking to get it from someone because burning a rebate is the last option
