Samsung Pixon coming to the US with AT&T-compatible 3G
Well it’s no Innov8 but we’re still pretty amazed that Samsung is actually going to be bringing its 8 megapixel to the US with some 3G love. No, seriously! The FCC just did its thing, and by that we mean it let us all know about a handset way ahead of schedule - the Samsung M8800L. The L variant is basically identical to its European counterpart but it sports the coveted 850 and 1900 MHz WCDMA bands that we hope for with each new high-end handset announcement and typically don’t see. In other words, it looks like AT&T will soon be getting it’s 8 megapixels on and we can all look forward to some tempting subsidized pricing. Initial rumors pointed to T-Mobile as being a potential carrier for this beast of a camera phone but unless a third version is in the works, it’s unfortunately not looking overly likely.

AT&T is slowly becoming the Apple of the cellular world bringing innovative products to it’s customers quicker then the other guys. They do need to pair down some of their product lines though. They really need some fresh faces in their inventory/warehouse divisions since they are getting a bit out of hand. I think they have like 30 phones available now, with a lot of crazy stupid overlap. Clean house a bit boys, I think you have a little to many women running parts of your company that they just don’t understand.

Unfortunately, I think T-Mobile is putting all of it’s eggs in one basket with the G1. I really hope they do not wait 1 to 2 years to redesign the G1.. I like the concept of Android, but I don’t like the design of the G1..

What OS this phone is running? Windows Mobile or Symbian?

@kachra,
I don’t think that it has windows mobile. This phone looks very similar to the omnia. The MP are to die for, especially if it has autofocus.

I am the only one finding it hard to keep new phone straight. Even when all signs point to T-mobile getting a new device it always seems like ATT beats them to the punch. It has happen with this phone, the 8900 and microsoft surface just to name a few, it is a little disheartenning.

It actually is coming to T-Mobile, I have seen a samsung rep sporting it in a store and its labeled T-Mobile. Should be coming out in Feb known as the Samsung T-929 or Menoir.

The Eternity/Behold on steroids…gotta love it…I’ve been dying to upgrade my 7.2 Samsung Digital Camera since it barely works anymore…My boss picked up a Kodak 10.0 MP TS camera, I told him to hold out for one of these new Sammies…oh well…he’ll hate me soon enough

If my memory serves me correctly, it’s running Windows Mobile 6.1 with TouchWiz (sp?). The same OS/skin on the Omnia. It is quite refreshing to finally see the US getting some cell phone love. 8mp is overkill unless you’re printing posters. Anyone know what lens it has?

wow sprint got to step up there game before instinct becomes a phone that seems it came out in 2002 the instinct is getting old fast

the 5mp camera on the omnia sucks, just like the 3.2 mP camera on the flipshot sucks.
you cna have a bunch of MP on a camera, but if you are using it wrong….it will still suck.

No symbian or wm, should be just touch wiz, samaung’s in house os!

Yeah but Omnia was WM. This looks more like a proprietary OS to me which is worse than having WM because on WM at least you can install third party softwares. I thought it would be Symbian like INNOV8. but i guess not!

Considering there are pictures of a T-mobile branded 8mp shooter floating around I think it’s safe to say both T-mobile and ATT are getting serious camera phones. However, I have yet to see any of the 8mp crop of camera phones touch my N82’s picture quality when it comes to night/indoor shots. Xenon ftw.

This is what happens when you’re GSM and not CDMA. There’s a world of products to pick from.

This is a master stroke by at&t.
It is true this phone is NOT running Win Mo 6.1. It is running samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz software for it’s touchscreen phones. Having said that, it is obvious this phone is not being marketed to the business ppl.
I for one HATE Win Mo OS. The samsung software is nothing to die for, but at least it’ll be thumb-friendly.
And even then, the phone has a more than decent web-browser, music and multimedia software, as well as calender and text messaging and all other regular options.
With 3G being added, I see this as a hit. And if the resistive screen mimics the ease of use that the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has, I see no doubt in this phone being a real winner.
My only complain…no 3.5 mm headjack =(

I dont see how this is a rip on t-mobile as all signs point to a t-mobile 8mp camera phone as well. now whether or not its a version of the pixon or not, it runs touchwiz and should arrive in february according to a few blogs. it was even posted here a few days ago

It’s about time at&t mixes it up a bit because for a minute there they were getting too caught up with the iphone…don’t get me wrong it’s a great phone but it’s not made for everyone!!!

If I’m not mistaken, TouchWiz is just a GUI that sits on top of WinMo (like HTC’s TouchFlo 3D).
