OS 4.5 finally official for AT&T
Sure, it’s been on the BlackBerry download site for a while now, but AT&T has finally started to announce the arrival of OS 4.5 for three of its handsets: the 8820, 8320 and 8310. We’re guessing that AT&T is subtly trying to say that if you’re device isn’t covered there is a Bold with your name on it at your nearest AT&T store. That or sit tight and wait until we get our act together (tip: Delete vendor.xml and you can use any carriers OS builds on your BlackBerry so long as it’s designed for the same device).
Anyway, OS 4.5 has a heck of a lot of improvements over its predecessors so if you don’t have it you owe it to yourself to start the process here.

Hey been running the 4.5 for a while now I’m with vodafone South Africa well that’s good news for at&t…html email and improved browser….. Just wandering what PedrotheGoat has to say in this post……lol
wow, stable beta versions of 4.5 have been available for 6 months now! still, glad to have the latest release.
better browser? better than what? unless it’s webkit, I’ll stick with 4.2 OS.
also, how much memory is free after an upgrade on 8310? I’d hate to upgrade and find out that I can only store a weeks worth of e-mail
The backup and restore feature did not work on the new download for 5 of us that are upgrading to the new software.
@ Brandon
I have an 8830…
Been rocking 4.5 on my Sprint 8330 for about 3 months now….
Sprint REALLY needs to come up off that official release so I can haz MMS….
You won’t get MMS with an official release. You’re going to end up with a half baked application like the windows mobile phones use. I hope the discontinuation of the pcs mail/calendar will prompt them to setup a REAL MMS server instead of their pos web applicatin. For all of the CDMA 8330/8830 people, search Google. Latest I know of is 4.5.0.97 for the Curve(8330) and 4.5.0.101 for the 8830. Delete the vendor.xml from c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader directory and any version of the Blackberry os *SPECIFIC* to your model number will install. This is of course at your own risk. You break it, your problem. Pinstack and crackberry are good reference sites.
Anyone having new problems with Google Maps with v4.5 on AT&T Curve 8310? Mine disappeared and I can’t find a place to re-download it using the Curve’s browser.
Simply go to http://www.google.com/glm on your Blackberry, and you can download the latest version (2.3.2) which also includes StreetView.
I did it and DM backed up a bunch of stuff. When it was all done with that and with installing the the new OS it automatically reactivated. I had to do nothing but wait an additional 40 minutes for BES reactivation. It was completely painless.
FINALLYYYYYY!!!!!!!!
To all of you 4.5 haters, it has video camera… Lol
The 8900 will probably not be with ATT, its more of possibility with Gay Tmobile. The 8320 is coming in burnt orange color, and it said about 1st quarter of 2009. Most likley at about february. Plus the 8900, isnt even a real competitor anyway, all it is just a nice screen and it still runs edge. ATT and verizon have the lock down on phones, tmobile is just behind, and verizon sucks because of CDMA. last thing is, tmobile is retarded for using 1700mhz 3G. no one runs that.
So, this is 100% not the place to post this but did you know that if you type “LT” the BB autotext picks it up as local time and will display such… Look!=

It also was released yesterday for AT&T 81XX. I got an email around lunch. I upgraded and the only issue I had so far was I had to resend my service books to get the HTML email to work. Didn’t have to delete a vendor file just pluged in and checked for updates. Now I’m on 4.5.0.110.
