I am in the halifax area as well and i get constant 3g service throughout most of the province. In the city areas i ALWAYS get better coverage then my cdma friends but not always in rural areas. Although i do get 3g service in the middle of no where here in nova scotia. So much for just large cities:P

it is true that with the wrong carrier down in the sates you can get some hefty charges. although when i was in dc in 2007 I used my htc smart phone and received all my service from at&t completely free.. guess i got lucky since i was there for a week and made international calls and even phone calls to florida as well as using my data.

My cats had to do testing and its costed me 2000$ without insurance… I can imagine what happens down south without it…

I started noticing the 3g turn into 3.5G on the N95’s display about 4 months ago.. i just thought that was normal.

I’m in Halifax on my N95 and it’s pretty awesome. My reception is just fine.

The N95 8gb is on the Rogers network. you could add that to the list of capable phones

I’m enjoying the “raping” here, with unlimited data, including tethering, for CDN $5/month (grandfathered, now $10) on Bell/Telus and their combined networks, with transparent roaming, has at least ten times the coverage of Rogers, which is limited to large cities during off-peak hours. Of course, I’m limited to the HTC Touch with WM 6.1 but is also includes unlimited GPS.

And, btw, dual citizenship is now legal between the US and Canada so you don’t have to renounce anything. Add to this that the surgery that has kept me alive in recent years would have caused all non-millionaires WITH insurance in your country to go bankrupt, and I’m pretty happy up here;)

The reason so many problems with Rogers network is bc of the iPhone.

Now if Rogers didn’t do the 3.5G everyone would complain about that.

1. I dont live in Canada, and Im not raped of data charges (Sorry Michael, your country is beautiful and the first country Id renounce my US Citizenship to, but the mobile carriers rape you all brutally)

2. I thought LTE was the big deal for everyone, not HSDPA/HSUPA – maybe the companies are realizing, “Crap, we dont have enough money for the next step, lets do what we were supposed to have, had a 3G tech be fast!”

Are the Diamond and the Vu the only devices supporting 7.2mbps? What about the iPhone–for some reason I thought it supported 7.2 as well (at least from a hardware perspective–does it need a firmware update to turn it on?)

HSPA is a 3G technology standard that was capable of 1.8, 3.6, or 7.2 – so an “upgrade” isnt an “upgrade” to anything really, it only shows the network operator was CHEAP to launch something faster to begin with. T-Mobile USA once stated their launch 3G would be 7.2, and regardless if thats the case, we all know its not 3.5G just 3G
