Apple iPhone; now with copy and paste, sort of
“Oh, but it doesn’t do copy and paste!” Rejoice, iPhone users, because now you can tell all your friends they’re only half wrong when they tell you your phone is inadequate because of the missing copy/paste feature. Now, thanks to a company called Pastebud, without jailbreaking or downloading any apps from the App Store, you can have copy and paste on your iPhone. But with a catch – or two. First, it only works between Safari and Mail. The other issue is you have to use two bookmarks in Safari to prep the process. Though it is still very limited in copy and paste capabilities, this is definitely a welcome start and bonus. So the next time you hear someone say, “Hey you with the iPhone! Does that thing do copy and paste?”, you say, “Hell yeah it does! Well, kinda…” Hit the read link for a video demonstration.
Does it also work within Mail (i.e. from one email to another) and within Safari (i.e. from the text of a webpage to the search box)?. I’m assuming that it does, and I’m also assuming that the video explains it further, but my internet connection is too slow to load the video

I use copy/paste on my touch phone DAILY, which is another reason I didn’t get an iPhone. It’s a great device, but I’m not an MP3/movie user.
I’m more of a word, excel, email user, so it was a no brainer not to get an iPhone. Not bashing it at all, just didn’t fit my usage, but, not having copy/paste…how can they realistically market this as a business device?
This is a shame. Apple need to do a system wide copy/paste, or let someone else release a app that does.

I repeat the earlier question. Does it work within Mail. From the video I don’t think so as you would need access to “Bookmarks” and the iphone does not provide that.
No, it does not work within Mail. It only goes FROM Safari To Mail. Calling it a step in the right direction is bullsh!t. This is so lame it doesn’t even count.
I’m a huge Apple fan in general, but the iPhone is such crap that it remains perhaps the only Apple product I don’t own. Apple does some things that just mystify me. They practically invented the mouse, yet they insist on a one-button mouse. The first thing I do with any new Mac I buy is throw that freakin’ moronmouse in the garbage and get a Logitech mouse. With freakin’ buttons.
This lack of copy/paste and lack of MMS are two more decisions that make ZERO sense. Hey Steve, It’s the 21st century!

You make that copy paste feature from mail to safari and then Im sold…Until then Ill just use my Storm
I’ve needed copy-paste a couple of times when I had the iPhone 3G (all of 2 weeks), so I realized how bullsh*t this was (especially coming from owning a htc tilt) to not include such a simple damn feature. Especially when iPhone has the multi-touch ability. That’s why I returned the iPhone and just got the bold.
Amen, That is why I gave up my iPhone for a Bold. A real power user phone again!

While I love all things Apple (well, except for the one button mouse), I totally agree about the ridiculousness of not having cut and paste on the iPhone “3G”. While at first it seemed insignificant to me, over time I realized how important it was on a touchscreen phone. And it’s one of the many reasons why my BlackBerry Storm bests my iPhone in terms of functionality…
ummm… the wireless mighty mouse has more buttons than I know what to do with. It may have taken a couple of decades longer than needed, but they finally did it. And I have to say, the lack of copy and paste has only annoyed my twice in the 5 months I have had the phone. Both times a Blackberry user had sent me a link by email, and the phone did not recognize it as a URL, and I had to write down the address and type it into safari, so this wouldn’t solve that problem.
I cant wait for this app to be up for grabs.

Yet another reason the iPhone is completely lame… by the way Can the iPhone shoot video? Can I get it unlocked? Can I replace the battery myself? Can I run it for three days on a single charge?

Hey, guess what? My Storm does copy and paste all day long! From day 1 it did this! Can you believe it? Both my original iPhone and iPhone 3G attempted to accomplish such an awe inspiring feat but unforunately it must be too complicated. As I sit here and see my Blackberry Storm sitting in front of me I also note that it has a better camera, removable battery, removable memory, better email integration, I can…wait for it…this is a big one too: send and receive MMS messages!!! Oh yeah, it also comes with a better network so I can catch a full conversation without losing it somewhere in the universe.
**I really wish the iPhone could live up to the standards that consumers expect but apparently Cupertino has firewalled access to these blogs. So thanks for pointing me in the right direction; right over to the VZDubya
OK kids, come on now. Stop bashing the iphone. IT was NEVER meant to be a “power user” phone! Never claimed to be. Most of Apple’s products over the years have all been brain farts in general, and REALLY REALLY, for those of you who have gone to a b’berry or Windows Mobile phone; talk about pain in the a’s crap! Apple is getting there, but it’s going to take time. As far as im concerned, I have a pretty decent phone, with a great mp3 and video player, with a good html browser and a great user interface. Does it lack some things i’d like to have, of course it does, but overall, it’s pretty damn good, and, no matter how much other companies may try to rip off the iphone, it was, again, apple who came up with the groundbreaking idea, NO ONE else had ANYTHING even CLOSE to the technology. So please, stop bashing the damn thing! Fewf, i feel a lot better now!
I am a die-hard Blackberry user and I’ve decided to give the iPhone 3G a try. The iPhone has surpassed all of my expectations. It is a very fun device with a very easy and pleasant user interface. Does it beat the Blackberry in the email and messaging area? In my opinion, no. In no way am I saying that the iPhone is not a capable email and messaging device because it is but it is not on the same level as the Blackberry. To exclude copy & paste and SMS forwarding capabilities doesn’t help. Still, I am very pleased with my purchase and I have no regrets in buying it. For me, the Blackberry is a very capable business device and the iPhone is a very fun multimedia and gaming device.
