Samsung 8 megapixel “Memoir” may strike T-Mobile

The Internet has been graced with blurry, less than detailed shots of what appears to be an upcoming 8 megapixel monster from Samsung. We’re not sure if this is going to carry the rumored “Memoir” name, but we’re hearing a lot of references to the T929 Leica, which is a rebradned Pixon that we mentioned not too long ago. Onto more important things, it looks like this will be packing an 8 megapixel camera and a touch screen. So far, there isn’t much to be told but if it’s anything like the Samsung Pixon then it might be a pretty exciting device for TMO folks to look forward to. However, it seems it will be more like the Samsung Behold than anything else, which could be good or bad news depending on your take on the Behold. While it’s been speculated that this handset might be Android-powered, we’re going to keep our reservations about that one since Samsung hasn’t been as vocal as other manufacturers regarding jumping on the Google bandwagon. Hit the jump for an additional pic!

    I happen to be a big fan of the Behold/Eternity and the ease of use (damn them for not adding Qwerty though). I have been waiting this phone out…hopefully it lives up to the hype so I can cop one.

    I’ve been writing on here many times that this device was coming lol ..its slated for a february release..I saw it a couple of months back when a co-worker from Corporate dropped by and showed it to us..I did not see the resemblences from this device and the behold. I did see resemblences with the mentioned Pixon(M8800)..its pretty neat..

    Are you crazy, Big Papi? The virtual keyboard on the Behold/Eternity is nice. I would never add a quarter inch to the thickness to have a real keyboard.

    I hope they improved the lens from the behold, I at a store comparing a picture taken from a 8320 and the one taken from the Behold and I couldn’t see any noticeable differences between the both. I was told that its because of the screen wasn’t a high res screen but if I would view the picture on a PC I would see the difference so I emailed that picture to my email and when I got home to view my emails and still saw no difference. Now I test viewing pictures on a pc when the behold is connected and I really can’t test that unless I own a behold so if any notice an improvement in picture quality when to PC let me know.

    This phone still sucks with its Crapwiz UI and 8MP camera and does not add any depth to T-Mobile’s current lineup. When is T-Mobile USA going to start releasing powerhouses like the Bold or HTC Touch Pro????

    @AgentBauer

    I meant in terms of qwerty style virtual keyboard. Not just the cursive/suretype models currently available on those phones. Kinda like on the LG Vu, the option of typing in Qwerty is available. Unless I’m oblivious to the option of making in Qwerty

    I will be very jealous/upset if this thing has Android on it just after getting the G1 as an early stocking stuffer…

    Who knows it just might be an android phone I know samsung is also a part of the open alliance. Now if it is, Samsung will need to improve on the G1 and a better camera and no key board isn’t much of an improvement. In the hardware department they need to have a flash on camera, 3.5 jack for audio, UMA support, more on board memory for aps and a better looking screen with similar functions to the G1 with true multi-touch capabilities.

    If hardware isn’t any better then the G1 it will not sell aswell as the G1 has. Those who are interested in andoid but were not interested in the equipment of the G1 are not going to get this phone if the phone isn’t better then the G1. They will just wait for the G2 to come.

    Well, if it has Android, then its a whole different story, but I don’t see any point in T-Mo pushing that thing out with Samsung’s UI. Hopefully they’ll put a decent processor in it too as most Samsung phones I’ve used are under powered and laggy.

    T-mobile’s new strategy… get cool phones, with lots of features, they won’t notice the lack of reception if they are busy doing something else with it.

    Big Papi, the Behold, Eternity, Omnia, and Pixon all have full landscape virtual qwerty keyboards.

    This is more than likely not an Android phone. Sammy is still pushing that mediocre TouchWiz so yea…

    And here’s a guess as to why t-mobile doesn’t carry the windows mobile powerhouses. Maybe a lot of their subscribers are teenagers, young adults, and senior citizens who find the phone feature list to be the top priorty.

    Which would t-mobile rather carry. The pixon or touch pro? Trust me they would pick the pixon. The reason? Most big business men are actually on the other 3 big networks so t-mobile really doest have enough people on their network who would even think about a touch pro.

    It’s not an Android phone. It’s the same lame OS as the others Samsung has been releasing recently. The camera is nice, but no optical zoom.

    This is a step in the right direction, with good camera build quality, but they’re not quite there yet.
