The Sony Ericsson Xmini is… A small phone

What do you get when you pack all of the features and functionality of a typical entry-level music phone into a tiny 75 x 44 x 18 mm package? Wait for it, wait for it… A very small entry-level music phone. Sony Ericsson introduced the world to its new Xmini handset for KDDI earlier today and it pretty much looks like something out of Zoolander. In a nutshell, the Xmini is a Walkman phone with a slider form factor and hidden touch sensitive buttons. It features what are essentially the same specs of a basic normal-sized music phone, and stuffs them into a tiny vetically-challenged package. Bluetooth, basic messaging functionality, wildly obnoxious ringtones – it’s all there. We don’t expect the Xmini to make its way over to the US any time soon but we can’t say we’ll be losing any sleep hoping it will.

I would imagine this would be a hit here, especially with the high school crowd, if priced well enough.

I love SE. They have always produced the most beautifully designed phones to me. But lately they seem to be lacking inspiration. Maybe they’re selling like hotcakes overseas…

Clearly all of you are in need of a health care plan that includes vision care – cause you are all frickken BLIND!!!

This is the most ugliest phone Sony has come out with, even more ugly then that 1995 ear pop up piece thing, and the z series looking thing with the flip down mouth piece twig.

ACH – no wonder Sony Ericsson is going under. Designing phones like crap!!!

I never said it was beautiful–I just said that it would be popular. In case you haven’t noticed, there are a lot of SE handsets out because of their low prices, namely by AT&T.

I personally think all their designs are redundant and boring. You can call it minimalism or modern, but they’re all yawnfests to me. I don’t understand how they pull that off either because Nokia has recurring design themes in their phones, and yet they seem to design phones that are still visually interesting.

Hmm.. Normally I’m all for phones that are small and compact… However, I think I’m going to have say pass on this one.

This one will make you go blind trying to locate buttons and read the screen.

I like the small form factor though.
