Verizon rumored to be prepping Storm OS update for today

In case you’re one of the squares who hasn’t yet grabbed a leaked copy of OS 4.7.0.75 for the Verizon Storm, you’re going to love this. Rumor has it that Verizon is getting its servers all set to officially unleash an OS update to fix the problems that have become the bane of some users existence (before you flame, no, we’re not hating on the Storm). Rumor has it that the OTA updates will be available in the afternoon followed by computer-based upgrade downloads in the evening. We’ll be sure to update this post if and when the update is ready, but we can tell you that if you prefer to upgrade your OS via Desktop Manager then the update will be available here. Note that OTA upgrades will only work for BIS users as this feature is not supported on BES.

UPDATE: It looks as if the update is now available via OTA and Desktop Manger. Enjoy!

    Not sure if anyone else is having Voice mail issues with the new update.
    Visual voice mail is a mess, messages coking one hour later, other times one minute later, and the red indicator light keeps flashing after all messages have been checked. Can’t wait for the next update.

    I just installed the upgrade to .75. I thought my phone was great with .65, but I guess I didn’t know what I was missing. The accelerometer is flawless now and typing is vastly improved. Strokes are more sensitive and response is faster. I haven’t had a chance to test the battery life, but I hear that’s one of the upgrades. I’ve been typing flawlessly at a speed that the blue track light can’t keep up with. Web browsing is also faster.

    To all those having continued problems with .75 find the leaked Bell OS .76 and install it (remember to delete the vendor file and disconnect from the internet before installing). The problems you are experiencing with media, visual voicemail are gone. There are still a few issues that need resolving with .76 but overall it is a much better experience. Trust me find the .76 and your storm will perform much better. Enjoy and yes go get that drink!

    For OTA do the following: Options – advanced options – wireless upgrade.

    My Storm doesn’t have a “wireless upgrade” option under advanced options.

    Also, has anyone had an issue with their proximity sensor not working while on a call or is there a setting I need to adjust. Every time I talk on the phone I click the screen with my ear and the mute button or speaker phone kick on. There’s gotta be an easy fix for this!

    Also, also… Are there new themes out to acquire anywhere?

    Thanks!

    I think that the accelerometer problem may be hardware related. I have upgraded to VZ .75, interestingly it added some upgrades on top of the leaked .75. The accelerometer still is iffy and slow from landscape to portrait. I have noticed the if you hold the storm vertical, it will change to portrait more easily than if it is horizontal. This leads me to believe that whatever hardware senses the motion is off. I would doubt that a firmware fix would help this. What are your thoughts? I love the phone, but it does take time and the VZ .75 definitely helps.

    @Paul

    Please please go somewhere else with your “all is going well I see ” 100,000,000,000 iphone apps.

    Thank you we get I believe we all get it.

    You absolutely love the iphone and I’m sure Steve Jobs thanks you , but let the guys enjoy their phone man fuck it gets straight annoying.

    I have owned an iphone iphone 3g bb storm and now the bold and I will say out of all of them none of them are great everyone feels like there is something missing every time a new phone comes out .

    If a phone any phone came fully loaded with what everyone wanted it would be a monopoly and the rest of the world would loose sales.

    You cannot compare any phone to any other phone unless they are meant to do the same thing

    Iphone geared towards the apple heads , young teens ,and people just looking to follow everyone else. Now with no real apple based copy and paste zoom on a camera landscape keyboard etc ….. Not to say you cannot get it or it wont be updated and I know what apple is doing to keep sale going. good on them.

    bb bold a power user that wants a little action on the side.

    bb storm a mini power user not so much the hustle and bustle some emails here and there and a lot of action on the side

    My opinion not that it matters and that anyone cares

    So paul now that I vented please drop the fucking Iphone head strong bullshit please it’s ruining the BG site its always the same guys or girls just like you just cannot understand there is a phone out there for everyone

    You just have to shred and pick apart other products you’re not a fan of .

    Thanks

    If the “Wireless Upgrade” is missing, the device will need to be registered again performing the following actions.
    1. On the BlackBerry device Home screen, click Options > Advanced Options > Service Book
    2. Highlight the “Provisioning [OTASL]” service book entry, press the Menu key, and select
    3. Delete
    4. Then go to Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table.
    5. Press the Menu key.
    6. Select Register Now

    Note: If the “Wireless Upgrade” option still does not show in Options-Advanced at the very bottom then you
    should return to the Options-Advanced-Service Book screen and highlight the “Provisioning
    [OTASL]” service book entry, press the Menu key, and select Delete. Then press the Menu key, and select
    Undelete.

    @Paul or who ever wants to read

    I was thinking what does make the Apple iphone 3G so great tell me in your words.

    @whoever

    claimed not having wifi on the storm killed when most people burn through the curve and never onced complained.

    @Paul
    Why oh why has Apple done this to us hahahaha

    Apple has done what no competitor would dare leave out . The iPhone 3G lacks Java MIDP, Flash (seriously), multitasking, Bluetooth stereo ( a prepaid phone has this ), a serviceable speaker, expandable storage, assignable tactile buttons (prepaid), and pop-up menus. There is no CDMA iPhone. The iPhone 3G cannot be operated on the networks of buyers’ choice. The video-incapable camera ( lets just say for how shitty the camera is it doesn’t exsist) is horrid. A Mac (well i guess I can see that it forces them to buy one good plan) is required for application development. Websites need to be adapted to work well with iPhone. It will never run turn-by-turn navigation ( Weak sauce)oh and some add ons
    - MMS
    -removeable battery ( what happens when you have to have it serviced)or (your job requires it)
    -some decent world traveling plans
    - copy and paste
    -landscape keyboard

    I like the iphone and I know it has poteintal it does a vast road ahead but I needed to do some iphone bashing seeing how everyone and there mother has bashed every other smartphone and or touchscreen phone known to man.

    Thank you im down with this post!!! Paul you have the floor… just don’t ruin BGR to much than you might have to actually join the real world.

    Aside from all the shortcomings listed, I also loved those ringers on the crappy iPhone, plus having to buy a separate charger for the $400 32GB iTouch.

    Jobsy sure loves his money, and there’s never a shortage of Apple fanboys like Paul that’ll bend over backwards to give it to him.

    So keep counting the apps while Steve Jobs counts his money. EVERYTHING’s an upsell on Apple.

    I find it amazing that almost every forum thread regarding the Storm reliably and consistently deteriorates into a pissing match between the iPhone and the Storm.

    The iPhone is an amazing piece of technology that broke ground no one had conceived of. To dispute that is ludicrous. It’s got some issues but overall Apple knows how to make an incredible device. I would guess that 75% of the current Storm users would have gone iPhone if it was available on Verizon.

    So now Verizon has the Storm. It’s a bit buggy to start but they’ll fix all of that. It gives us an iPhone-like product with a few advantages and a few disadvantages.

    I’m tired of hearing people boast about one or the other as if the other one should not exist. No one here invented either or had ANY involvement in their creation or their profitability. Get over it.

    If there’s nothing to be said about the actual title of this thread then stop wasting memory on BGR’s server and find something better and more productive to do with your time!
