Verizon rumored to be prepping Storm OS update for today
In case you’re one of the squares who hasn’t yet grabbed a leaked copy of OS 4.7.0.75 for the Verizon Storm, you’re going to love this. Rumor has it that Verizon is getting its servers all set to officially unleash an OS update to fix the problems that have become the bane of some users existence (before you flame, no, we’re not hating on the Storm). Rumor has it that the OTA updates will be available in the afternoon followed by computer-based upgrade downloads in the evening. We’ll be sure to update this post if and when the update is ready, but we can tell you that if you prefer to upgrade your OS via Desktop Manager then the update will be available here. Note that OTA upgrades will only work for BIS users as this feature is not supported on BES.
UPDATE: It looks as if the update is now available via OTA and Desktop Manger. Enjoy!

@ Michael
The official release is .75 The files that make up the leaked version are exactly the same as the official version so if you’re already on the leaked .75 don’t bother getting the official release.
I’m running Bell’s .76, do you guys recommend updating to verizons official .75?
So the OTA “wireless upgrade” on the phone won’t be available until 9:30? If I’m running .76 will it still show up under that advanced option?
Here’s how to get the wireless update option in advanced options. I found it on another forum and although I have been told it works, I accept no responsibility for it. Do this at your own risk.
options > advanced options > service book
highlight ‘provisioning [otasl]‘ (make sure it is [ORASL] and not [PROVISIONING]
menu key > delete > menu key > undelete
repeat that a few times then go to the home screen again then options > advanced options and there should be a new thing that says wireless upgrade at the bottom
Just confirmed over the phone by Verizon that only the web-based version will be available today…
They said that the OTA version is set to be available tomorrow…no specified time.
I just wanna know when it will be available for OTA.
9:30pm PST for the OTA.
Hmmm. So us East Coasters should have it in about 2 hrs. Correct?
@ John
Yes I have Verizon. I just deleted the Vendor.xml file.
@ jsos…
Uh…no. East coast is 3 hours ‘ahead’ of PST. You’ll have access to it at 12:30am tomorrow via OTA.
Duh. Stupid me. Thanks
It’s Friday…time for a couple of drinks.
@ Tommy
No problem.
In my opinion, .76 is better than .75
My impressions are the same as BG. Better battery life, much improved camera and multimedia, no idle crashing. In general more stable OS.
The only negative as BG posted is in terms of browsing. Browsing seems to have slowed and no get the the minute hand when trying to render a page. It’s not so slow to be utterly annoying but something VZW should work on in there next update.
BTW: The official VZW release is the same one as the leaked .75 so I recommend staying with .76 until a newer OS comes out.
True that! I’m with you.
Yup, looks like the new OS is on the Verizon site now, just not via OTA.
as of 12pm today the OTA is avalible.and as of now the software is ready, the OTA takes about 2 hours, and the software about 45 minutes. It fixes the slow transition when turning the storm, random shut offs.
storm sucks…when is bold going to be released on verizon?
The Storm OS was flawless sincce launch. I could have lived with .65. Only slight lag on accelerometer. Its a shame that those that got bad units are getting all the press. Most people love it. And no i’m not a RIM fanboy. I hope all future touchscreen phone have the touch click.
If you have the leaked version of .75 then definitely run the update. It will actually detect some differences between the leaked version and the one supplied from Verizon. If there are no changes then it will not give you the message that there are updates available. If you’re on a BES I highly recomend downloading the full package. (102mb) and use desktop manager instead of trying to do it OTA which could take more than a bit of time. Definitely improved over the leaked version of .75.
What about the Motorola Kraves over the air update? Is that chop liver?
@ Chron…My sentiments exactly….I will be keeping .76 until something newer comes out.
what is the .76
I received my phone on the 2nd. The only problems I’ve had, and only minor, are sometimes the accellerometer doesn’t work. Its not slow. If you split the keyboard in half and type using 2 thumbs, its dead on accurate as any full qwerty keypad. I had no need to rig anything to make my screen work, and no problems with the lower right corner pressing. My phone came with the .65 and its near flawless. My battery life is nothing to be desired. I’m gone 12 hrs a day and hardly use the phone and gi have 2 bars left after 10 minutes of youtube, 20 minutes of browsing, and no talking and texing. The bars turn red when I use my navigation. Time to invest in a car charger. That’s minor. The thing that annoys me is that even with the screen locked, it lights up red and reminds you its locked. I assume this is the cause of my battery drainage problem. Is there a way to completely lock the screen? Overall….I LOVE THIS PHONE. I Phone users at work envy me.
Version 4.7.0.76
So is the OTA update available for you guys on the West Coast yet?
