Verizon rumored to be prepping Storm OS update for today

In case you’re one of the squares who hasn’t yet grabbed a leaked copy of OS 4.7.0.75 for the Verizon Storm, you’re going to love this. Rumor has it that Verizon is getting its servers all set to officially unleash an OS update to fix the problems that have become the bane of some users existence (before you flame, no, we’re not hating on the Storm). Rumor has it that the OTA updates will be available in the afternoon followed by computer-based upgrade downloads in the evening. We’ll be sure to update this post if and when the update is ready, but we can tell you that if you prefer to upgrade your OS via Desktop Manager then the update will be available here. Note that OTA upgrades will only work for BIS users as this feature is not supported on BES.

UPDATE: It looks as if the update is now available via OTA and Desktop Manger. Enjoy!

Thats great man. I take it that you do not have previous BB experiance or have ever played with the toy(Iphone). Its good sometimes to be new to something, that way you don’t quite realize how something is supposed to work.

Hopefully the rumor is true. Several verizon reps for our corporate account told us yesterday that the next update will be Dec 21

Underpromise and Overdeliver. Say the phones won’t be available until the 8th but deliver them on the 1st. Say the update won’t be available until the 8th but deliver it on the 5th. I’m hoping this is the philosophy.

I was told to go into advanced options and click on wireless upgrades. I don’t have that option under advanced options. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I didn’t have that option either. My wife got her phone the same day (early that first Friday morning) and her .65 OS did have that option. It is odd that some .65 devices have it and others don’t.

That also makes me wonder if .75 a week ago is the same as .75 today?? could there be changes in a newer .75 that may fix all of the memory leaks that still exist??? I have to pull my battery daily – sometimes 2x / day.

Hmmm… The iPhone is a “toy” but the Storm needs you to cut up a business card to place inside the device so that the screen will work… I’ll take the toy over the junk any day. Having to do that says there’s a hardware issue with the Storm and a firmware upgrade won’t fix that…

That’s not a true statement. OTA OS upgrades are supported. There are some caveats, but it works.

Hmmmmmmm nice ignorant idea of a phone based off select problematic phones… There is a difference between a phone that has just been released and a phone that has 99% of apps in its store that are completely pointless. Iphone= Fragile TOY.

    @jsos

Call your local store and they can give you instructions to make the wireless upgrade option appear.

I haven’t had any problems typing in the corners, I don’t have to pull my battery and barely had any lag time with the accelerometer. Unfortunately, that was when I was running .65. After I updated to .75 it became a bit more buggy and that was disappointing, so I was hoping that this update wasn’t the same .75 that we already have.

I’m having a problem with the virtual keyboard disappearing while I type and even when you hear the audible screen click it doesn’t always select the icon.

I’m not sure why I’m having those problems after the OS update. I hope it is the update and not my hardware wearing down. I can live with it until another update. Believe it or not, it’s still a great phone and will be even better when the bugs are worked out.

Not exactly an ignorant statement if it is true and you happen to be among the “small” percentage of those who it affect. What to you think? That because YOURS did not need this fix, those of us who did should just be happy for YOU and not complain. If you had gotten a defected unit you’d be calling it junk too you jackass.

And whether or not the apps in the app store are pointless or not is subjective. Some are useful, some are not. But I’ll take them over the one or two on the Blackberry with is what? VCast? So I can pay twice as much for a song through VZW than I do from Apple on the iPhone? Ha… And no telling what kind of junk is going to be on the Blackberry for apps or if, like the music, will cost twice as much because they have to go through VZW….

@ Chron…I really do appreciate you telling me I had to unhook my internet connection to upgrade to .76 THANKS A MILLION!!!

One quick question, how do you like .76 over .75?

Just wanted to let everyone know my opinion it seems faster than .75. I think it renders pictures faster and the music players is twice as fast. I also believe Boy Genius reported it provides might provide better battery life. (Not that it needs it :) )
