Verizon rumored to be prepping Storm OS update for today

In case you’re one of the squares who hasn’t yet grabbed a leaked copy of OS 4.7.0.75 for the Verizon Storm, you’re going to love this. Rumor has it that Verizon is getting its servers all set to officially unleash an OS update to fix the problems that have become the bane of some users existence (before you flame, no, we’re not hating on the Storm). Rumor has it that the OTA updates will be available in the afternoon followed by computer-based upgrade downloads in the evening. We’ll be sure to update this post if and when the update is ready, but we can tell you that if you prefer to upgrade your OS via Desktop Manager then the update will be available here. Note that OTA upgrades will only work for BIS users as this feature is not supported on BES.

UPDATE: It looks as if the update is now available via OTA and Desktop Manger. Enjoy!

    If this update(which Crackberry posted on yesterday) is .75 then I think Verizon should have their examined. The leaked OS has been all over the internet for awhile and it installed flawlessly. If all they can do is to vomit it out and say “Here ya go it’s the OS you have had for a week is now “offical” then I think we should grab our torches and pitchforks and head on up to Waterloo. They could have made the damn thing say hello when you turned it on and made it .77 and I would have been happy with it. Just something, anything .75 is not the answer and if that is their solution I will be very dissapointed. I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope that because they haven’t said anything yet or set it in stone that they roll out .78 or god forbid .80 today.
    This is the time for VZW and RIM to make up for the 21st.

    Agree with Twain. Perception is everything. It would make them look like they are one step ahead of all of us. Nah – that reallty can’t happen with BG!

    Does anyone know how we will load the BES upgrade? Just a simple manual download and sync to the BB? I hate that OTA function does not work any you need to call an 18 yo at the IT desk (playing the latest video game).

    Second q – did anyone upgrade using the Voodafone(sp) update? I downloaded by my German is “nigsht goot” and am afraid it’ll switch me to a new language.

    @Mark Twain – Verizon seems to like to make sure stuff works with their phones, this is the reason why they customize their phones UI, so they know it will work and they can support it better. It has its pros and cons, but now it is coming out so everyone who still needs it can be happy.

    @ Twain you can’t say they should release a newer update because the .75 already leaked. People who have that upgrade in the Storm universe is probably like 5%. Not everyone is as tech savvy or visits BGR to look for updates and such so to everyone else this is pretty new.

    My question is: Does the Storm OS really suck ballz or what?

    I haven’t had a chance to play with one, and I see net reviews cursing its very existence. Most of the reviews essentially say the OS is half-baked.

    Its not a bad phone. People over analyze things way to much IMO. Its a phone and it works. The only problem that i have had is the screen lag. other than that, no problems. There are a lot of people who want every single bell and whistle to work right from the get go. It is a brand new device and it will get better. I personally love my Storm, i came from having a Curve and I can definately say that this is an upgrade.

    Ok alot of people to address and let me clarify that I do own the Storm, love the Storm and more than most want to see it crush the Iphone and shut BG the hell up. For those who tell me to stop coming to the BGR I can say that BG has a lot of good info, I just don’t like the spin he puts on it.

    @Zargon

    VZW and RIM dropped the ball with the Storm. If they cared whether or not the Storm worked right they wouldn’t have had it limping out of the gate. It has so much damn potential, should have been like an 18 year old guy on prom night, not a 72 year old man poping a viagra so he can stretch it from 3 minutes to 4.

    @Likeabite

    First off I found my update on Crackberry not BGR. BG stated that while .75 was in existence it was not to be found. It is also my honest belief that at least 85% of the fanatics in line for the Storm on the 21st had done the research and fully undertood the concept that they would have to upgrade their OS and have probably done so by now. Back in February I picked up my Pearl, it was my first smartphone and within a week, I had upgraded it. So I have high hopes that the 15% in line that just wanted it because it looked cool will be able to understand that the phone needs help. Those who don’t get the Upgrade concept have probably already returned theirs. So to make a long story short, I do believe that the Update should be more than .75 because we have been patient for 2 weeks and they owe it to us. The Storm was billed to be the next big thing, instead as I said before it is limping along popping pills to stay up.

    I currently have .75 on my Blackberry Storm and it is great. I also did the business card trick on the top of the battery and I can type faster than I did on my 8830.

    Yesterday I downloaded the .76 patch from Bell at crackberry.com and deleted the Vendor.xml file and when I tried to update the OS it reads no software update is required for your device. I wonder how Boy Genius got his to update his Strom to .76 or is .75 the same as .76?

    @ Twain

    When BlackBerry released phones in the past, of course there were some minor issues; however, nothing RIM released has the same amount of issues as the Storm. With calibration issues, lag issues, etc., I got fed up with the Storm fast. As a big texter, the calibration turned me off fast. I knew there would be an update, but sometimes things can be so bad that you just can’t wait for it.

    Even when the iPhone first released, there were issues for it as well, but not to the degree that I had experience with the Storm. Since RIM has been in the game for a lot longer than Apple, I expect at the very least for the phone to equal the iPhone in release (in terms of functionality with features like the keyboard, speed of the OS, etc.)

    Tommy says:

    Jon, you basically cut a business card the same size of the battery and put that under the battery cover. This helps in typing around the corners and is easier to type on.

    What exactly is your point? Not a knock or anything. Are you agreeing with me, I don’t think that the Storm is terminal or anything like that. I can still call out(call quality is very good) can still e-mail with BB precision and have become quite good at typing on the Storm. If you decided against the Storm, then you are part of that 85% I talked about who had done their research and just decided that future upgrades weren’t the ticket. I can knock you for not having patience but thats about it. If its not for you, then its not for you, end of story. I just hope that you are not a closet Iphone user who just wants to take the opportunity to bash albeit quietly on the Storm. Just read thru your post and have now got the impression that you are an Iphone user, so that explains your lack of patience. Ya know what I have played with the Iphone and its a nice toy. Not for me though. You will prolly regret your decision once VZW gets their shit together and has the Storm running. But thats your loss. Enjoy your Iphone..
