Apple to sell a $99 4GB iPhone at Walmart?
We just got a tip that in addition to the iPhone 3G actually making its way to Walmart, as we exclusively told you, there will be a 4GB model priced at $99 with a 2-year agreement. We’re not putting our stamp of approval behind this one just yet as the tipster isn’t listed in our BGR’s Guide to respected Ninjas handbook, but it does make you think, doesn’t it? Now, we all know Apple dropped the 4GB iPhone from its initial line-up, but that was at a $399 price-point. 4GB is certainly enough for some songs and short music videos, but let’s not kid ourselves. Anyone looking to spend $99 on an iPhone probably doesn’t care that much about storage anyway and they’ll be more than happy to drop that amount for one of the best-selling smartphones in the country. Just don’t hate us if this doesn’t happen, we warned you. Thoughts?

Does this really make sense though rather than paying the $400 to jsut but the 3G model right away? Ebay is selling the 2G model for over $200 and then I would have to pay another $200 to buty the 3G. Or can you upgrade from 2G to 3G for much less? I need to look into that.
Those photos look so bogus. If you know anything about those corporations, they don’t stick their logos on anything sensitive, especially not with the catch phrase. Duh!

Here to confirm that those pics are for real. I for one own one of each. As far as the 4gb version of iphone goes, it never came up in discussions but this got said “Apple will never lower their price for anyone” during a Q&A about the price during retraining just for this.
@ giga- how in the world will anyone by able to tell the difference just by looking? It’ll be black just like the 8 and 16 gig. They might actually look smarter than you since they waited, like me. Willing to switch from my first gen 8gig for the much cheaper 3G 4 gig since the cheapest plan will be at least $15 more per month. Who cares about being ahead of the times? You buy the phone because its a cool device (that still needs work) with one of the best HTML browsers on a phone.

Not everyone can afford the current iphone especially when they have to go to AT&T to have it. Have some compassion and consideration. Besides most people don’t need all the crap you can get on the new iPhones anyway, smoke and mirrors and bells and whistles abound.
If you need an iPhone to attract girls, I’d say you have other more important issues LOL. Might help if you would learn English. Standing out in a crowd of millions of people would be impossible anyway.

you can still use the 1st gen iPhone plan on your 2nd gen iPhone. I’m using it right now, so instead of paying the 3G plan price, i’m only paying the EDGE price plan. No loophole in that. AT&T can’t do anything to me. I’ve even used 3G at times and never been charged for it.

The Iphone is currently growing the fastest in households that the average salaries are 25,000 to 50,000 (for a household). This is exactly in line with the majority of Wal-Marts customers. If this rumor is true AT&T, Apple, and Wal-Mart will OWN the cellular world.

What’s the problem with buying an iPhone at $99 from Walmart? Everywhere I turn someone has an iPhone, we all know soon there will be another phone that will be exclusive to people who can afford it. Then someone will sell it for cheaper and make a killing off of it. I don’t need an iPhone but hell if Wal-Mart starts selling it, I will definitly get one. iPhone junkies need to get over themselves.

Well if walmart does sell the iphone, i think it’ll be a smart move on apple’s behalf. They would clearly sell more phones and Att will benifit also by getting new customers. Right?
