Apple to sell a $99 4GB iPhone at Walmart?
We just got a tip that in addition to the iPhone 3G actually making its way to Walmart, as we exclusively told you, there will be a 4GB model priced at $99 with a 2-year agreement. We’re not putting our stamp of approval behind this one just yet as the tipster isn’t listed in our BGR’s Guide to respected Ninjas handbook, but it does make you think, doesn’t it? Now, we all know Apple dropped the 4GB iPhone from its initial line-up, but that was at a $399 price-point. 4GB is certainly enough for some songs and short music videos, but let’s not kid ourselves. Anyone looking to spend $99 on an iPhone probably doesn’t care that much about storage anyway and they’ll be more than happy to drop that amount for one of the best-selling smartphones in the country. Just don’t hate us if this doesn’t happen, we warned you. Thoughts?

best idea yet. they will sell alot of them. I always thought it was a stupid idea to get rid of the 4gb anyways. I dont really use it for the ipod, I use it for everything else. I have pandora for that!

What I’d rather here is that Apple has introduced a “better than everybody else” version of the iPhone for $599 that has some fantastic features that $99 people aren’t going to get. Jeez.. so much for having something that stands out in the crowd.
Honestly, I’d drop $99 bucks for a 4 GB iPhone 3G to replace my 8 GB iPhone 2G.
But only if they offer a cheaper data plan for that price as well.
If true, this will be subsidized by apple and the cellular agent for wal mart. At&t stock has gotten killed partly in regards to the pricing of the iphone 3g. Wall Street doesn’t seem to think its a profitable long term move. I bought company stock in preparation for the 3g launch (worked in advertising for at&t) and lost my ass.

I don’t know why they cancelled the 4gb. If WalMart gets it, it’ll become the Razr of the next few years, unless the 5800 gets a fair subsidy from someone. If its not true, Apple needs to figure out how to make it true.
It seems to be true considering friends of mine who are works for wallie down south has been told by some reps of his.

It is so sad to say considering I am not a big fan of iphone, but for $99, wow! At this point,I would get one if sold.
I wanted to get the storm but was waiting till all the bugs were fixed. This type of tactic from apple could in fact steal those disgruntled storm purchaser. Clearly you are not comparing apples to apples (sorry) but some people out there, like me, who don’t max out their devices potential and just want something cool might opt for the $99 iphone.
Well that would go with what a corp. Rep told me last month. After a walmart store in the area was getting a 4g iphone. I asked don’t u mean 8. She said nothing. So it could be
two year contract that’s not good news

It doesnt matter if its free! At that price point, people ARE NOT WILLING to get the mandatory data plan. The people who are willing to pay the data plan fee monthly already purchased this phone for $199. Believe me, $100 is NOT keeping people on the sidelines. Its the data plan rate that is keeping EVERYONE from buying a smartphone (storm/iPhone/Omnia/Behold etc)

These are some crazy rumors. First costco supposedly to sell the phone for $149.99, then walmart to get a version of the Iphone for $99.99. Whats next? Walmart brings back the 2g Iphone for free on contract
. All I know is if this really does happen stay away from walmart unless you’re getting one because the lines are bad enough as it is already, and now this:)!

Okay.. i was kinda pissed when they dropped the prices on the iphone 3g.. cuz on the 2g.. u was the guy with the iphone… then the 3g came out with the dropped price.. had to get the 16 gig to seperate myself from everyone else.. no biggie. i needed 16 gigs n e way.. everywhere i go..i am guarenteed to see someone else with one.. its a girl attractor to.. but if this happens.. every buster out there will have one.. it will become the razr… this sucks.. they need to come up with a 32 gig..

Walmart requires that you would maintain a high tier price plan for 6 months with extras..
Once learning that I was heartbroken cause they also have a free bold with the same conditions
