All the fuss with Vista comes down to:
1. It had an awesome lot of problems when it launched.
2. It’s extremely bloated with useless crap and consumes amazing amounts of resources, your computer would run much faster with the same spec and XP.
3. It has nothing new or novel to offer.

Of course by now most bugs are fixed, and if you buy a new computer with it you won’t ever see the amount of resources wasted by vista since you don’t have a comparison.

Simply put vista is an expensive downgrade from XP.

I dont even want to start about the iPhone… I love it. I hate it.
I have had light leaks, loose buttons, rough edges, dust under the LCD and vibrator issues…
The OS 2.0 and 2.01 and 2.02 where horrible.
2.1 and 2.2 are better…
That is why I laugh when I hear people bitch about BB Storm… Its there first attempt… After 5 months (Just like the iPhone) it will get better…

I must say though, I do love the iPhone and hopefully Jobs will get back to Quality. Next time a MAC product comes out… I will think twice. I have told countless people of my story in hopes it gets across… Great designs… Poorly made. Cheaply made nowadays… At a premium price…

Imagine buying BOSE/BMW and getting problem after problem? If I wanted problems I would have bought a cheap 200$ computer…. LOL

Well said Marco R. Same thing goes with the iPhone. I refuse to pay a premium price for poor quality. Sure I could get lucky and not have any issues but between hardware and network performance problems it just isn’t worth the gamble.

Windows Mobile is far from perfect but my Diamond has never dropped a call and my internet coverage is stellar. HTC makes good phones, sure the move to qualcomm has affected video performance but I can forgive them for that every time I read a post by an iPhone user complaining about their phone experience.

Quality, quality, quality. Why pay more if you don’t get it? Apple will continue to water down their products unless it starts to affect their bottom line.

I for one don’t think Microsoft has anything to worry about…
I had Vista and was happy with it.
In August I switched to MAC!
My first iMac had a gradient issue.
My 2nd and 3rd iMac had burnt pixels out of box.
My 4th iMac had loud fan humming noises.
My 5th iMac had a defective Hard Disk.
I am on my 6th now and the LCD to the left is much brighter than the right side…

I have told countless people… IF Apple doesn’t get a grip on its quality control… People who switch from Windows to Mac… Will go back to Windows…

Note… *MAC FANBOIS*…

Don’t defend there quality control.. You pay 3 to 4x the amount of a PC. I expect an Apple product to be that much better. I never had hardware issues with my $500 Compaq. I have had tons of issues with my $2300 iMac.

Am I picky? Not at all… I am disgusted with the hardware of Apple…. There customer service is outstanding though.

I have both apple and mac. I was not a fan of xp at all. I do like Vista do not see what all the fuss was about with vista. If there is one complaint is that it takes forever to boot up. I supposed Windows 7 will be even better, especailly if it boots faster. Competition is good. If only gives us better products at better prices over the long run. I will be a user of both operating systems going forward.

I’m actually glad this is happening. The more market share gets eaten up by other companies (*nix and all its variants has another .00002% out there), the more they’ll have to scratch, claw, fight, and do whatever’s necessary to improve their product.

All you Mac fanbois can be smarmy cunts, and all you Windows fanbois can list your talking points, but competition is good for everyone.

As I stated above, I use Mac’s and PC’s. I’m not biased towards either but seeing as I use both, I am amazed everytime I see an “I’m a Mac” commercial and how many times those commercials were lies or a complete exaggeration of the truth and Microsoft just let them get away with it. I guess they underestimated the influence of the media.

I still dont really get why everyone hates vista. I had XP for awhile and didnt really want vista, but the guy i am, I like to try something rather than take someone elses word for it. I really like vista-had my HP laptop since August and so far no problems. No crashes or anything

I use Mac’s and PC’s for 3D animation/design. I had a slight problem with Vista at first because it didn’t play nice with networks when I was contracted out to work in-house in someone else’s office. It took about 10 min to upload a PPT file that was less than 1MB to a network drive. It wasn’t fun. I now use that laptop for my home computer and have had no problems with it at all. It’s extremely stable and I can safely say I don’t experience crashes and I do graphics intensive work.

I agree with those of you that say Microsoft let the media negatively dictate their product and it has had an adverse effect on their sales. Believe me, I like using Mac’s also but mine crashed just like any other computer and my laptop running Vista really doesn’t give me problems at all.

afstech, it is exactly the opposite. Raw numbers hide the true picture and only percentages will allow meaningful comparison.

Percentage of market share indicates buyer’s preference. If PC had 95% market share it means 95 out of 100 people choose Windows over other OS. If it drops to 89%, then only 89 out of 100 people choose Windows now, indicating that other OS gained strength and began offering something new. Always look at your piece of the pie, that’s how it works in business.

Why not show the numbers that they took to produce the results? You also need to remember that 10% market today is like 90% 10 years ago. They should show numbers and not just a percent. You would see that the windows install base is still growing. Market share numbers are just like a poll. It doesn’t really show the whole picture because it does not take every PC into account.

Minime I completely agree. Their approach to Vista should’ve been more hands on rather than letting the market promote it. I’m glad there is a growth in Vista though and I guess this is why MACs should see start seeing a steady influx of viruses and malware because of their marketshare. When this happens, look for the dynamics to change again.

Apple has done a tremendous job promoting Macs. They took a niche approach, marketing Apple as something really cool. And it worked.

MS hasn’t done much marketing Vista advantage. It outsourced marketing and costs associated with it to the OEMs, like Dell and HP, to sell their PCs with Windows. I think the numbers shows the pitfall of such approach – despite its superiority Vista is not perceived cool or even good. MS allowed in most cases groundless bad rap to go around, and it tarnished Vista’s image. MS has no one but its corporate strategy to blame.
