I returned my Omnia to Verizon this morning. After 30 days spent trying to make this a useful companion I gave up. A friend with an iphone and I sat in my office surfing side by side. No comparison man, the Omnia sucks. The auto focus sucks, the widgets suck. It constantly rolls over from wifi to Verizon broadband, that sucks. Maybe I should have kept it and just carried it in my pocket.

Now I’m waiting for the BB with wifi to hit.

Is the head-to-head-to-head review still going to happnen? At this point, I’ve pretty much given up hope. But I hope I’m wrong, because I really want to see how the three new Verizon Windows Mobile phones compare to each other.

For all you guys that want to sync and recharge while listening to music, why don’t you just get a pair of bluetooth headphones? if you are on ac power (or usb cable charge) what’s the gripe?

I’ve had the phone for a few days now and I love it. However I am considering returning it due to a problem switching the wifi on and off. I have a friend that has had the same issue with the phone.

Unfortunately my wifi got stuck on and it sucks the battery dry.

Warning to others considering this phone (in America) it has some bugs to it. If it wasn’t for this, the phone would be perfect.

Regarding windowe media player, I have two devices that sync, so yes, I would have to swap between the two, but it’s not really an issue as it syncs automatically (unless I’m missing the point).

Re the headphones, it’s the same problem regarding power.

For practical use, we don’t get any sun in the uk, so it’s not a problem. Seriously though it’s no Nokia E-series in the sun, but I haven’t experienced any difficulty.

Can you please compare these phones from a road warrior perspective. Feature reviews are nice but it’s more important to me to know whether I will be able to read the screen on a sunny day in a car, silence the ringer quickly in a meeting, or easily spell someone’s last name on my corporate voicemail than to spend valuable page space discussing the “slight lag” when the screen is turned sideways. Let’s be practical.

um yeah it says CDMA, which can be 3G (CDMA2000=EV-DO)
so i assume when you say 3G you mean HDSPA, or 3.5G.
right?

I’d like to know about the interaction between the 8gb onboard storage and the microsd card. In Windows Media Player will it show you on one screen all of your media or will you have to jump back and forth between lists of what’s onboard and lists of what’s on the sd card? On my Tilt I don’t see a way for it to display both the media on your phone and on the card at the same time.

Also, for everyone complaining about no headphone jack–it’s called Bluetooth Stereo. Try it. The lack of a multi-input adapter (like HTC has so you can charge and have an audio out at the same time) is concerning, but I assume one will be on the market shortly. HTC never included a multi-input adapater in the box; you always had to buy it separately from any number of accessory websites.

I’ve had the Omnia for some time (UK) and it’s my first WM device since the ipaq 3870. It’s definitely growing on me — clearly the Windows Mobile interface isn’t geared towards a touch screen though (roll on Windows Mobile 7?).

I like the flexibility of the platform and the fact I can write .net code for it, but I can imagine a “normal” user getting quite frustrated with it.

Don’t get me wrong, I love it and I’m not currently looking to replace it with a Storm or iPhone any time soon, but my biggest complaint (and probably my only one to be honest) is regarding that weird Samsung connector. I can plug in my headphones (with a massive lump sticking out of the side), or I can plug it into a charger (USB or Mains), but not both at the same time. This is most likely not an issue for most, but I do conference calls whilst working from home using my mobile with headphones and if I run short of power…

And while we are at it, did the Samsung testers try putting the device in their pocket whilst listening to music — the connector has come out a couple of times blaring my music out to the masses (quite embarrasing I can tell you).

It is shockingly bad design, even I know that and I’m not a designer…

I’ve heard of some odd issues with this phone but I’m sure they’ll get ironed out. As far as crippling goes the gps is locked to only be used with VZ navigator but I’ve heard that its already been cracked and works great with google. Interesting to me is the fact that on VZW website they have completely removed any mention of wifi.
@KCAinIOWA I’ve asked about slingplayer on half a dozen sites and have yet to get an answer. I got a feeling though its not going to work on the Omnia due to the screen size. Sling has said that they will have a blackberry beta player out before the end of the year (slingcommunity.com) and I heard varied reports of it working on the HTC after lots of tweaking.

I got my Omnia on black Friday and I’m not sold after using it all weekend. The phone keeps randomly shutting down. Is this a known problem with the Omnia or is it WM 6.1? I’m thinking about trading it in for the BB Storm. Any ideas?

So far I love the Omnia. I was able to get it in a Verizon Store Yesterday the 30th. The Wi-Fi worked great until I switched the toggle off, now I can’t get it to start again.

Too bad I didn’t see it in Canada. I am quite tired of my HTC Touch that lasts 15 hours on stand-by (with WiFi, BlueTooth and data connection off) and feels like it is ready to fall apart. Cannot wait for a good WM phone to show up.
