Samsung Omnia from Verizon already gets discounted

We showed you the first live images of it, we priced it and gave you a release date, Verizon announced it and we unboxed it. What more Omnia news could you possibly want? Ahhh, how about a price drop? That’s right people, a mere eight days since the Omnia became available online and through telesales and Verizon is already dropping the price to a cool $199 after $70 mail-in rebate. The new price is down from $249 after the same rebate. Talk about a killer early adopter tax – the Omnia won’t even hit many stores until next week and we already have a 20% price drop! Those of you who purchased the handset already can still be happy knowing that you were one of the first people to have Verizon’s sleek 5 megapixel smartphone, despite the fact you fell victim to a solid gouging. Hey, it happens to the best of us from time to time.

if the resolution is your issue, you should see it first. honestly, i cant tell it has a lower resolution, it looks jus as good as the Storm to me!!

For those who bought it early, just have Verizon give you the difference back.

I had omnia on Friday and returned it Monday for several reasons:
1-Samsung widgets today screen suck and is not useful
2-Interface is not pretty//low resolution screen is obvious
3-The haptic feedback happens on some places not always
    4-Windows Mobile looks very old.

    Dont waste your time

im not a huge fan of windows mobile but i dislike blackberries sooooooo much that i will deal with it plus the omnia is a sleek sexy looking phone and i absolutely hate that frickin click what a waste!!! the biggest thing is there is absolutely not one reason to have a blackberry unless the company you work for runs a blackberry enterprise server!! plus the blackberry has a slower processor and overall is just a waste of the amount of time and energy that verizon has put into it. i do agree that there needs to be some new software for smart phones other than windows, like linix or something more stable, but the point is blackberries are sooo much more of a waste than the omnia.

WinMo is not for everyone. But if you don’t mind taking a few days dig around the web for programs, hacks, and tweaks then I think you’ll get to love it. Had my original Q for two years and loved it (till it got stuck in headset mode). Had slingplayer, sirius radio, pandora, a program that used the flash as a flashlight, hacks to extend battery life, nes/snes emulators and roms, google maps, live search, on and on… First thing I do when I get my omnia tomorrow is delete the homescreen with those stupid widgets and download a better homescreen from there the fun begins.

    Mr. Hi-Definition says:

I’m not really surprised. You can’t expect to sell a handset for $50 over the iPhone or the G1 or the Storm and honestly tell people they should pick it up because it has WM. Verizon made the right decision to lower the price but I wish they would just do away with the damn mail in rebates already.

I got the Omnia friday. I was going to try this for a few weeks and the Storm then decide. But I am sticking with the Omnia. I really like the phone.

I also called Verizon about the price change and they credited my account the $50 difference with no problem.

    Who? says:

I’m not usually one to call out the BGR anti-Verizon bias (possibly because I’m anti Verizon myself), but everyone who has bought the Omnia is within their 30 day return window, so they can of course get credited the difference.

    Bobby says:

This phone is one of the best WinMo phones released in the past several years and will be the standard for a while.

I got mine on friday and Verizon just issued my credit for the difference.

The battery issue is most likely a firmware issue. (do a google search and you will find plenty of hits)

I had winmo for a while and I absolutely hated it. Everything about it just felt wrong. I’ve recently I recently switched to a blackberry. Its so much easier to navigate than windows mobile. I’m very happy with my switch to bb.

if you already bought the phone just call customer service and they will probably credit you the $50. the same thing happened with my curve a month after i got it and i actually got credited twice by mistake.
