Fido and Rogers aren’t happy, destroy BlackBerry Christmas bonanza?

Bad news, people. Fido and Rogers are not happy campers at the moment and have there are reports that they have decided to take it out on future product offerings. Lately both companies have been struggling with internal leaks and the higher-ups are understandably paranoid. On Friday, Fido posted a memo for all employees which repudiated what was said in BGR Land about Fido aiming to launch BlackBerry products and services this month:

An internet mobile magazine is speculating that Fido is about to launch RIM BlackBerry products. Please take note that the New Fido has a great phone line up, however BlackBerry is not part of the line up at this time. We do not speculate on future products or services.

The memo is pretty strange considering that the official policy of both Rogers and Fido is not to address rumors. Accordingly, you can imagine our surprise when reports started coming in that a day after the memo supporting initial release info was circulated, Fido was informed that its hopes of launching anything BlackBerry were dead in the water - maybe. The quote above is pretty open-ended, stating “BlackBerry is not part of the line up at this time,” as opposed to, “the speculation is false.” It’s a strange twist of events considering that this happened so close to the launch time frame, but then again Rogers does have a long history of doing some pretty sketchy things (remember the saga of the E71?).

While we’re on the subject of Rogers and BlackBerry, there is one good thing to report. The powers that be apparently also killed all plans for a pink BlackBerry Bold. Perhaps that means they read our comments section too…

Sprint said the same thing about NOT wanting to sell Nextel. AT&T Wireless said the same thing about not selling itself to Cingular. And lets all not forget that fiasco with Helio saying it was NOT in talks with Virgin Mobile USA.

If there is anything we know we can trust, its NOT TRUST when a mobile carrier claims something is NOT happening, when we know it all is.

BlackBerry IS coming to Fido if Rogers is smart!

Fido Guy: “Hey, check out all of our customers who are ecstatic at the thought of giving us more money for locked handsets and a service that not only barely costs us anything to provide, but that we’ll only be able to provide reliably about 70% of the time.”

Rogers guy: “Yeah, we’re gonna make a ton of money with this, and these idiots are gonna sign 3 year contracts too!”

Fido Guy: “I can’t wait to make you more money, Rogers Guy”

Rogers Guy: “Yeah, about that… See, we’re going to inexplicably delay this launch as long as possible, and find every other possible way to cripple it. Just because”

Fido Guy: “Yeah, that makes sense! And we have a great phone lineup!”

So basically their either lieing and they are goin to get some sort Blackberry but they just don’t want to release the info yet because they want people to buy a phone noe. Or their actually not getting any and they want people to spend the money now instead of waiting for a phone that may never come. Hmm, I wonder which one it is.

    History repeats itself…

Fido isnt some tiny carrier like MetroPCS (coverage and customer count wise), its a little bit more like Cricket, but is more well known then both, because Canada, unlike the USA only has like what 3 MAJOR carriers and 1 smaller thats “National”.
Unlike the USA, we have so many different options,in SF alone we have like 8 different carrier options. In places in Canada, they may have 3 or even only 2.

Point being, Fido, being one of the most well known Canadian carriers (even if affiliate of a larger one) would be stupid to announce, “Oh we are coming out in December with this phone” because people WONT use them till then… and if they confirm, then another carrier will come out with something better.

HELLO!!!!! If they are smart, they will come out with that which people are rumoring and want on that carrier.

also most people in canada (at least to places i live) only use fido cause its cheaper then rogers and they just buy unlocked phones and use them. I have an 8800 and im on fido prepaid fido is good for uni students and such cause they’re cheap GSM and easier to deal with then rogers
