Sprint to discontinue PCS Mail and Calendar

If you’ve logged onto your Sprint account recently, you might have noticed that glaring red print under your “Online Tools” tab. So, if you relied heavily on your PCS Mail or Calendar for productivity, it’s all coming to an end apparently. It’s not news that mail is being discontinued – just consider this a friendly reminder. It was announced over the summer that all addresses ending in @sprintpcs.com will be shut down for good so save those messages before you’re locked out forever! What is new however, is that they’ve decided to shut down the PCS Calendar. Again, much like mail, there is no particular reason why they’re doing this, but we’re sure you can all use your imaginations and hit us with comments like, “Sprint is dying and they’ll soon be gone.” The more likely reasoning is simply a matter of some overdue Spring cleaning. Is anyone going to miss these services come December 31?

Thanks, Roger A!

I’m with Sprint and am extremely sad to see these features go. Now… I never actually used them. The calender sync and the ability to e mail pictures on my Blackberry does just fine for me.

It’s the principle though. I like the word PCS. I also enjoy features I never use. They make me feel warm inside.

I dont think it sad. It makes sense to rid of something that no one is using. Why pay to operate those servers and maintain them.NO one is USING these services…Do you hear any OUTCRIES!!!!!!!!!!

sprint come back to life? what are you smoking? they lose more customers than what they gain. maybe they need to put more money into their network then trying to sponser companies. Network is what the customers want.

Doesn’t this make anyone think they’ll be introducing a Google Android phone very soon then? Who needs SprintPCS mail and calendar when you have google!

Maybe this means that Sprint customers might get a real MMS server now? Say what you want about Sprint (except billing issues) and you’ve got a decent company. Unlimited EVERYTHING (voice, text, data, tether, pic mail on certain phones, BIS) for $99/mo. VZW and AT&T can’t even touch this. They provide me with a huge corporate discount, cheap service, and I have my problems resolved within minutes of calling. With as much money that has been invested in Xohm, yes certain divisions of the company are not going to be allocated the same resources but this is not a permanent situation.

Cheap isn’t what everyone wants. If the $99 everything plan was as bad ass as you make it sound then why are they still bleeding customers (losing more than they enroll). They shouldn’t have cut prices- they should have raised them and just offered more (in customer service, network, features, etc). It’s so easy to just cut prices when things go bad, but it rarely ever fixes anything. They are now enrolling more lines at cheaper prices & losing “higher paying” subscribers. Price cutting is a sign that things aren’t going well… that goes for most businesses (industries).

yea u guys might want to check the ratings sprint has the #2 network in america in every sense of the word and i mean EVERY and they are ranked 1 in my area… the bad cust service and customer loses come from nextel period.. and check the ratings again the new ensemble billing fixed the cust serv issues.. consumers want 3g over ptt and a phone with 3g and ptt is alot more than a mid range phn and not as nice as a similarly priced phone.. but sprint is far from dead do you see all of the big non phone companies behind clearwire which is a part of sprint.. if u see somthing they dont maybe u should be a fortune 500 business advisor.. ill take my fastest 3 soon to be 4g, lowest prices, best coverage, and non crippled phones lol..

Sprint really cannot be beat as far as the packages go. You cannot touch $99 unlimited everything with any other carrier.

I hope that the discontinuation of these services brings about the MMS enabling that everyone is asking for on the Blackberry and high end Windows Mobile phones.

@celz above: The phones are crippled by not having the MMS features enabled.

I have no billing issues with Sprint, I have a great plan with Sprint and I have never had any call quality issues or problems with the data side of the service. I had Sprint for years and switched to Nextel then ended up with Sprint anyway. Just dumped the Nextel for two new Blackberries over the summer and couldn’t be happier.

@justin. Who cares if this is old news. For one, some people might not frequent howard that come here. Two, it is good to have a friendly reminder to people who might have forgot about it and would like to save stuff in their mail and calendars. Third, do you expect people to have 3 or 4 carriers that they pay for just so they can give you information the exact date it comes out? If you think some of the information is old, don’t read it. Or, you can get your own blog, pay for the domain hosting, pay for the servers, find authors who want to write with you, get advertisers, and get enough respect that people send you info and phones to trial and talk about before they are released.

Another thing you have to consider with sprint losing alot customers is the release of all these “carrier exclusives” like the Iphones(att) and G1’s(tmobile)…so you get all these people wanting the “it phone” of the moment.

But comparing plans to others services..SPRINT IS KING. Service is great and they will be I’m proving and soon they will junp on a “carrier exclusive” phone…hopefully the HTC TouchHD :)

Then we will see how bad Sprint is doing

    @Paul

Are you a Sprint customer? Tried them in the past six months? Dan Hesse was left with a huge mess by Forsee and they are working on fixing a lot of the customer service problems. When you call now, the call is answered almost immediately by professional, (and for most part) knowledgeable speaking associates. Not sure if you’re aware of this but the Simply Everything plans have been available since April/May of this year so it wasn’t a spontaneous price drop. Why would I want to pay AT&T an extra $60/mo before tax to get the same service. Same with VZW. My phone is not crippled with disabled GPS functionality, I have great 3G data coverage pretty much anywhere I go (even on the ridge at Volcano National Park on Hilo island, HI) which I find really impressive. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I completely agree with you. Those AT&T and VZW blackberry plans are a joke…they rip you off…

    P.S.
I also Tether with my blackberry on my Sprint Everything Plan at no extra cost.

I tried the mail and calendar. To cumberson to use. With all the other calendar and mail options available on phones these days, it just makes since to drop if no one was really using.
