im not being funny but the iphone is an amazing bit off kit, as fort mms and copy and past, the answer is simple…..jailbreak. copy, paste, mms, download inside safari, torrent download, unrar and the list goes on.

I don’t get how anyone can even try and defend the iPhone. I’ve jailbroken my 3G and yeah, maybe it does add some features like copy/paste and video capture if you download 3rd party apps, but c’mon these apps are almost as much of a nusciance as not having them in the first place! The BlackBerry Bold in my opinion reins supreme in the world of smartphone at the moment. There is nothing you can do with the iPhone that you can’t do with the Bold. I’m done with iPhone. I’m selling mine and getting a Bold.

There deffinately needs to be a change with the texting keyboard form the narrow to the widescreened format, like on the email, and yeah copy and pasting is already here.

Me, Jailbreaking is not for everyone especially with apples’ new updates bricking jailbroken iphones =/..

All those “features” should be standard on the iPhone…

I for one fell into apples’ sweet marketing trap and bought the 3g.. kinda regreting it right now.. All show, no substance =(

GPS, bluetooth, maps, email, yada yada yada… let’s complain about all sorts of new apps on the iphone instead of what the iphone broke in the first place. And that’s text messaging. Not only is it close to impossible to type with any reasonable speed because god-forbid we allow the sideways keyboard on ALL iphone apps, but fwd of text messages, oh that’s a real tough software fix, we can’t possibly work on that now. We have many other priorities. And let’s not get into how adding multiple recipients (I often send 100) takes about 25 minutes, and you have to use pen & paper because of a bug in the groups select page. What a joke. iPhone brings me so many new capabilities in a phone, yet takes away things that should be given. And it’s very clear that the developers and most testers don’t text message. I often wish I was back on the sidekick. What a joke!

If you are wondering why the iPhone is winning in the marketplace, the above quote says it all. Nobody will ever use 20 million features, or 200 features that you need to read a manual to figure out. A good UI is the single most important feature. If you don’t have that 20 million or 20 billion extra features don’t matter to anyone but a few BGR readers.

And MMS is dead — emailing photos works better (higher res) and is free. Push notification is needed and will come — when it gets done right. After the MobileMe fiasco, Apple will release no feature before it is done. It will leave the rushed to the market, broken stuff to others, like the Blackberry Storm.

Folder management is one of the reasons why I chose the iPhone over the Blackberry. RIM’s PUSH technology is remarkable but not being able to access older emails kind of killed the Blackberry appeal for me. And I am not just talking about Exchange mailboxes. The iPhone lets you browse through your Gmail folders/labels as well. When I had a Blackberry, I had to download the Gmail app to be able to access older emails. To the best of my knowledge, there was no app on the Blackberry to browse through your Exchange folders.

I love when people sing praises of the iPhone and all it can do when you can’t even minimize an application. Windows Mobile might be dog ugly by default, but the raw functionality of thing just hasn’t been matched yet.

When the iPhone gets features that have been around for more than half a decade, I’ll consider it. But multi-touch and a snazzy UI that can’t do what I need it to do just isn’t worth it.

ps i gave my 3g iphone to my lil brother and found it under his bed like 4 days latter couldnt even entertain a 11 year old

I own both the iPhone and Bold and actually prefer email (over our exchange server) on my iPhone. Email is faster to come through and sync with my Outlook inbox on it than the Bold. Also, much better folder management. Surprising, trust me I know.

So I definitely consider myself a CrackBerry user, but I’m a fair user so when the iPhone came out, while it didn’t tickle my fancy, I didn’t completely shoot it out the window either.

Just recently, I bought an iPod Touch with the intention of “testing it out” since the Touch and iPhone are pretty much the same deal minus the phone (I figured I don’t actually need to test out the phone part because that’s not important).

After using it for the past 2 weeks here’s my conclusion: This thing has an amazing touchscreen, is relatively easy to use, the keyboard blows but the auto correct makes up for immensely (so that sort of alleviates the fact that the keyboard sucks), email looks nice and the browser is awesome. The rest, though, I don’t see how people can praise this phone as much as they do. The damn thing is missing so many features that it drives me crazy.

Applications can’t run in the background? Lame. Great, so much for multitasking. Leave the screen of the app and it sort of closes. Trying to save some battery by going back to the home screen and leaving your aim open? Can’t do it. Aim actually seems to override the phone’s power save features and if you leave the app open, the screen never shuts off. If you go back to the home screen, you don’t get notified about incoming messages. How stupid is that shit?

Email looks gorgeous (as it should) but it’s heavily delayed. I signed up for the MobileMe 2 month trial and it’s pretty weak. Perhaps if you never had a BlackBerry or don’t have time sensitive material it might not matter, but loading the same email account on both devices and the BlackBerry as you know gets that email just about as soon as you press the send key. The iPod I was noticing on average was 15-20 minutes later and sometimes not at all.

No MMS, no Video Recording, no ACTUAL voice GPS (wtf?), no single inbox for messages and having to put everything in iTunes to get it on your device is annoying, especially if you want to get your own movies since you first have to convert them into iTunes format or whatever.

I was actually pretty pissed off because all the great features (the touchscreen, the html email/browser) are destroyed by the huge list of “what it doesn’t do”.

I’m pretty shocked after actually using one how people can worship it so damn much. Is the fact that it has a nice browser, nice (and heavily delayed) email and works with iTunes worth more than the tremendous list of everything you CAN’T do?

At the most, I could see myself owning one if not for the browser only, but there’s no way I could ONLY own an iPhone. It just doesn’t do shit.

I like how every time a touchscreen comes out, the first thing people say is, “it’s no iPhone”. After “sort of having one” for the past two weeks, that doesn’t seem to be such a diss anymore because I’m betting that all the others have a lot more features.

As Apple spoon feeds you updates each iPhone I’m sure in about 3 or 4 years it’ll actually have all the features it’s suppose to. Maybe then I’ll consider it.

And yes, this phone needs plenty of updates to actually put it on the same level as practically every other device out there.

This is a major bummer… But on a more positive note, I just bought a HP Mini 1000 netbook and tethered it with my iPhone 3G via iPhone Modem both wired and wirelessly while the iPhone was in standby and also while I was on a phone call, receiving and responding to text messages, and using GPS to find my way home when I got lost this weekend.

All in all, I have to say the iPhone is definitely pretty good but I wish Apple would just bring on the push notifications already.

I love the phone but seriously we need C&P, Push notifications (so apps can run in the background EG. GPS Nav and Trapster) & Turn-by-Turn GPS Navigation. I mean come on Steve. The Bold can do all of these things. Forget about the Storm. The iPhone is such a awesome device that it just leaves you wondering how it made it out of the door without these basic features. Oh and one more thing. It needs to get a little better at recognizing phone numbers and e-mail addresses and give you the option to add to or update contacts. The BB is very good at that.

I was just talkin about this to a friend of mine. They need to bring this in 2.3 before christmas/MacWorld.

I don’t mind not having C+P and especially MMS ( because most of my friends have smart phones now and email. ) but Video capture would be nice.

They more important improvements and features to implement on future updates compared to the iPhone 2.0

iPhone…..is…..AWSOME!!!! Seriously. It frustrates me no end that apple takes the most basic features, such as push notification (if you are a business user) and copy & paste (if you have an opposable thumb) are made into these mega-events at macworld. For petes sake, 3G, something that apple should have had out the door, was a big deal.

And everyone soaks it up. “yah, apple is awsome!” And apple positions it as if they are bringing us “the future”. Seriously. MS could (and just might) make a big deal out of winmo 6.5 with IE6, and you know what everyone will say? “They should have had that to begin with”.

Apple could probably make copy & paste available through the release of a new friggin hardware (iPhone 3G C&P) and people will flock to buy it. And announce the whole way that apple rocks!

I’m not saying WinMo is great or anything, but I can’t fathom why iPhone fans are so in love with the thing. I salute Apple and their branding group!

All i know is that Macworld is just a month away and that Apple will have to say something about the status of the feature that day, so if they’re planning on releasing it there it will soon show up in the beta versions. copy and paste are good to have but i haven’t had a need for it yet, MMS they can just forget all about that as soon as push notification arrives, why the heck would anyone wanna pay AT&T extra for MMS when you can send almost everything throw IM as soon as push notification arrives
