Specs on that phone are amazing, it should sell very well, and to all the guys who seem to think Wi-Fi is the next best thing since sliced bread should be happy too!

They definitely did not market this phone at all. Curious as to why Verizon would put out such a similar model to the Storm so close to when the Storm was released? Only,……. this phone looks to be more loaded with features. Oh and also, the Storm has the clickable screen. smh.
Samsung got shafted BIG TIME on this one.Phone prob won’t really start moving till next year as opposed to the Storm, which Verizon can’t seem to meet to demand. Ironic.

On verizonwireless.com the touch pro is showing up for me at 269.99. I believe this is due to corporate pricing i am entitled to. does anyone know how this works? Will the Omnia also be subject to corporate discounts? I know the Storm is showing up at $199. My storm is arriving tonight or tomorrow but I’m thinking after reading BGR, Engadget, PhoneScoop, PhoneArena, Cnet etc this thing is going back with thousands of others.
How good is the keyboard on the Omnia? Anyone from Europe can comment on the GSM version, apparently they’re identical other than the chip set?

What happened to the Touch Diamond?

If this phone is anything like the Samsung Eternity as far as typing goes, then this will be one sweet device. I tried out the Eternity, and in the short time I had with it, was one of the best, if not the best typing experience I had on a screen. That includes the iPhone and Storm. Will be interesting to see.

The storm is definitly chock full of bugs, was playing with my coworkers handsets and the screen orientation was flipping around even when the phone was stationary. The touch screen is pretty cool, but it could be a bit more responsive. I also think that it will break easily as the screen just kind of floats on the phone. The storm was my choice, but i have since changed my mind. Going to wait until I can try one in person, but i think the omnia may be the way to go.

According to almost every review on the internets…this phone is definitely not THE phone to get…as most reviewers are even suggesting the Storm in it’s current, buggy OS state.

A Verizon phone with wi-fi?!? I thought Verizon pulls those chips out right before the phone gets boxed?!? I thought Verizon called up RIM and was like pullz the wi-fiz or we’llz pwnz joo!? Why wouldn’t they do it to Samsung or HTC?!? Why bgr, why? I went for the Storm cause I thought you said Verizon would never embrace wi-fi and demands manufactuererers to remove it?!

i dont want to go with the storm with this never ending nightmare of waiting for software updates. I’ve been with VZWS for a long time, and i’ve been down that road waiting for an bug fix or a windows release. Can the Storm with all it’s problems really ever get it right? If i go Omnia or Touch Pro I may regret it one day, but i wont be stuck with a disappointment. Storm is looking like a major disappointment, and every major review highlights that. I have been looking forward to the Storm for 6 months or so, but Omnia or Touch Pro may prove to be better.

Sort of a related question. Is there anyway to get this phone without the data plan? I am not spending $30/month for a data plan I will use a couple times a year when traveling. I estimate that 95% of the time WiFi will be available to the phone, so the data plan is of no value to me. If they had a lower end data plan for occasional usage, for like $5 or $10 a month, then I would jump on it. But forcing this extra $30/month for a data plan I do not want or need is a no sell for me. Who else is selling the Omnia? Do they force a data plan too?

Switch to a GSM carrier (ATT/T-Mobile), get whatever phone you want..

Data plan is mandatory. The cheapest plan you can get for this phone is $69.98/month. Since last week, Verizon has made data plans mandatory for all smartphones (on new contracts at least)

@dave
If you go to att there is no required data plan. You will however forfeit your rebate if you get a fuze/BB/Incite and no data plan. but like you said, with Wi-Fi, who needs it.

I returned my storm and would be curious to check this one out.

256/128. Sad.

They probably didn’t market this phone so people would buy the storm and have to rebuy a phone after they found out it wasn’t all that great.

One potential issue I see is the interaction between the 8gb onboard storage and the microsd card. In Windows Media Player will it show you on one screen all of your media or will you have to jump back and forth between lists of what’s onboard and lists of what’s on the sd card? On my Tilt I don’t see a way for it to display both the media on your phone and on the card at the same time.
If it’s not a seamless integration I vote fail.

“GPS with VZ Navigator Capability”
Does this mean that I won’t be able to use GPS with any other navigation system, like Google Maps, Tom-Tom, etc.
Will I have to use VZ Navigator to utilize the GPS?
