Verizon Storm ship-by date pushed up to December 8th
Whatever the case with the BlackBerry Storm OS / Sticker debacle from Verizon, it looks like everything is going to be ironed out a bit ahead of schedule. Verizon’s website now shows an online order shipment date by December 8th, bumped up slightly from the previous date of December 15th. The listing on the site still shows the Storm as having limited availability, though it’s hard to say if we’re talking real limited availability or marketing limited availability. Limited availability of your most highly-anticipated handset release of the year, right before the holidays? Either way, if you’re in the market for a Storm but the idea of it not shipping until the 15th gave you pause, knowing that it will ship out a week earlier might give you the push you need. As an aside, Storm owners who don’t already know should keep their eyes on this site for OS downloads. The current OS version is available now and perhaps we’ll get lucky and find an update there within the next few weeks.
Thanks, Ryan and Booyah!

Tommy you are not being nice. Tell them how Tue, Nov 25, 2008 you are.
I’m actually reading this on my storm now and I don’t understand the general hatred of the web browser. I came from a Curve and this browser is by far easier to read and use. The Storm utilizes both taps and clicks – tap lightly to hide and show navigation, click to zoom once. My biggest complaint is the slowness of locking and unlocking the phone. It seems unreasonably long. Other than that I’ve been jamming along just fine. I’m not a hardcore blackberry user but I can type out stuff pretty fast on this phone.
i generally hate the storm right now because it has not shown up on my doorstep.
and also because no one can tell me when it is coming.
This is the part that gets me. Why so poorly planned, I ordered mine within an hour of the store being opened and sold out and they tell me that I have to wait for it to be shipped by the 6th of December.
Blackberry fucked up
Spelled “device”
man….you said it well…..very very well said!!!!!!!!
they got more stock, probably by taking Telus’ units – since they’ve now delayed their launch.
How come the only issues being reported is with Verizon version of the Storm?? Is this really a RIM issue???
Totally. I’ve used 3 BlackBerries over the past few years and the Storm just doesn’t live up to my expectations. The Storm is neither here nor there; it isn’t nearly as fast as the Bold or even Curve in normal operations and it isn’t as polished or fun to use as the iPhone. I think it’ll take a couple more iterations before it’s ready for prime time.
i love the storm…keyboard/touch screen is hands down better then the iphones, i can’t even believe its being debated
Returned mine today. Others in line to do the same….it’s a dog. First time Bberry tripped over itself!
Berry, Why don’t you stick to pitching? Like your fastball, your review leaves much to be desired. Watch out. Now that I have the Cy Young, I’m coming for your big fat contract. LOL
I have never been a cellphone or text-messaging treky. I have only used my cellphone for travel emergencies. I use my laptop at home for personal IMs and emails. Likewise, I use my office computer for business communications.
I never saw the need for a BlackBerry until the “WOW” factor of the Storm impressed me.
My point and inquiry…
What is the difference between the BB Thunder 9500 and the BB Storm 9530? Have early issues been resolved?
I just hope that they send me the right phone on 12/6!
Thanks!!!

Wow…I’m just blown away with all the hatred of the some Storm comments. The most common being slow response issues.
Okay, lets agree that the Storm probably wasn’t “done.” Is any phone really done on launch? Come on, the iPhone has lots of “issues” and shortcomings too. The reality is that very view products are released that are perfect.
With the Storm 1.0 now on the streets, I’ll bet that well over 80% of the people who have one are happy enough with it to keep it and are willing to wait for some updates to make it smoother, faster, and better.
The iPhone has been out for a lot longer and is the only phone that Apple makes. It better be butter smooth, but it has plenty of flaws and shortcomings of it’s own.
The majority of people who use cell phones everyday do not frequent blogs like BGR. I bet they would welcome and enjoy a Storm. If you don’t like yours, take it back so someone else can enjoy it. Then go find a perfect phone for you. Please feel free to let us know what it is, because I don’t think there is one perfect phone for everyone.
At the end of the day, if the phone you have does what you need it to do, then you’ve got the right phone. The slowness and most of the other bugs in the Storm will be worked out.
I have now met 3 people with Storms. 2 of them are college students and independently showed me their complaints; lag, either doesn’t move at all when turned or does so slowly, difficulty with typing with too much pressure needed and/or difficulty hitting the right keys, somewhat slow browser. All have firmware 65. Interestingly, none of them new of this website and were unaware that their problems were inherent with the current Storm. I told them to come here for settings concerning the responsiveness of the keyboard and for an overview of what is going on. I think that if Rimm doesn’t get a good firmware upgrade withing the 30 day return period these phones will be going back. I am waiting for mine to be delivered by mid December and hoping that it will have a better firmware. At least my 30 day clock will be ticking later. Yes, I know that the Iphone had problems, but some of us will take dropped calls over having to fight with the phone. I wish Verizon had the Bold or equivalent as this will be ( or won’t ) my first Blackberry. I currently have a Palm and I have waited long enough to be rid of that, also with promises it would get better through firmware. It didn’t.
I called Verizon when the phone lines opened Friday morning. Was told that I would get overnight shipping and should have my phone between 8 to 12 Saturday morning. No phone. Called back and was told I would have it on the 25th. No phone. Now Ive been told I will get it on the 5th of December. Customer Service and Telesales act like they dont understand why everyone is upset. I was told they had 1 million phones before launch and just simply “sold out”. Not to mention the “systems” went down on friday around 10 in the morning so many orders placed before then didnt get placed until after 2. Which means if you have been talking to verizon you wont get your phone until the 5th, the 8th, or the 15th. I feel with as much money as I pay to Verizon every month (I have multiple lines with them) they could have handled the release of one of the most anticipated phones a lot better. There is no way they could honestly tell me that they didnt know how high the demand would be. To this date I still dont know exactly when I will get my phone and to be honest Im not even sure if I want it anymore.
well…got my storm. Ill have to agree it is no Iphone killer. So here is my 2 cents….
1. If email and messageing, and BES synced with outlook is your number 1 priority I would pick the storm.
If it is not and surfing the web and watching movies is they get the Iphone.
I am guessing that most people dont even have this phone that are on here… My opinion is there are bugs…they will get fixed with a software update. I dont like the click screen it slows down the typeing which is a key reason you would have a blackberry. I like everything else minis the bugs….
i havent got my storm yet but i’m looking to have fun with it the iphone wasnt pefert when it first came out but just give them a chance to get it right like the iphone did! I think it will be a great pnone.
