Verizon Storm ship-by date pushed up to December 8th
Whatever the case with the BlackBerry Storm OS / Sticker debacle from Verizon, it looks like everything is going to be ironed out a bit ahead of schedule. Verizon’s website now shows an online order shipment date by December 8th, bumped up slightly from the previous date of December 15th. The listing on the site still shows the Storm as having limited availability, though it’s hard to say if we’re talking real limited availability or marketing limited availability. Limited availability of your most highly-anticipated handset release of the year, right before the holidays? Either way, if you’re in the market for a Storm but the idea of it not shipping until the 15th gave you pause, knowing that it will ship out a week earlier might give you the push you need. As an aside, Storm owners who don’t already know should keep their eyes on this site for OS downloads. The current OS version is available now and perhaps we’ll get lucky and find an update there within the next few weeks.
Thanks, Ryan and Booyah!

Chris, your being naive. It is still a blackberry and that makes it an IT / Enterprise device by default so those people do indeed know what they are talking about. And version1 of any device is bound to have issues, that you are correct but that doesn’t mean that its immune from criticism. If something is bad / buggy then it needs to be called out, not given the benefit of the doubt so RIM can wait a couple years to fix things.
God, the iphone defecates all over this phone. I love it
My CEO wanted the Storm, i told him and told him it was a bad idea, he said he just wanted to try it while he was up in Washington. He just called me after using it for 2 days and said “Get rid of this POS, switch me over to the Bold”… I must say, i warned him… ha
BG! I just returned my Storm! I’m a huge Blackberry fan…but the storm was no iphone! I now have to go through drama and return to AT&T and the Bold…I should’ve listened to you BG! I really wanted to love this device…but what’s the point of a touch screen if the browser isn’t even like the iphone? arrgh….
@Zito
Fair enough, not everyone has the same needs or requirements for a device. If one doesn’t fit the bill, perhaps another will. Different strokes for different folks and all that.
First off the devise is not a disaster. Have you had the devise in your hands and spent a decent amount of time with it? I have had it since friday morning and it has been the best blackberry to date. Yes it has a few problems here and there, but then again any new device does, just like the iphone and the G1…
everyone here has to realize that this phone or shall I say any phone will never win in a comprassion to the iphone. everyone just needs to get over the fact that every phone that comes out is not designed to beat the iphone. even vzw didn’t make a comparison storm to iphone at first release. they compared it to the bold. we need to face the reality that no phone will beat the iphone.
If you say this is best BlackBerry to date you either:
1. Have never used a BlackBerry before the Storm.
or
2. Have never typed a email over 2 sentences with the Storm.
Locally, my Verizon site still says the Sprinkle won’t be shipped until 12/15. Keep in mind, this date is being released before what will be their busiest weekend of the year. It will only get worse. Given the economy, its not a wise move to choke supply to create demand.
Want the Best BlackBerry – get a Bold.
Want the Best touchscreen – get an iPhone.
@ NotToo Bright
You speak the truth. Its really that simple.
Want the Best BlackBerry – get a Bold.
Want the Best touchscreen – get an iPhone.
Sad that Verizon has neither of them!
@Tommy
just because you can’t type on it doesn’t mean no one can. I’ve gotten quite comfortable ripping out emails and texts. The internet experience is far better that any other blackberry I’ve used. All the other functionality is standard blackberry.
Once they shake out the first gen bugs, (via OS update) I think one could make an argument that this is the best ‘berry made.
The word is spelled D-E-V-I-C-E. Also, if you believe the FedEx tracking info, my Storm was shipped _Sunday_ and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow sometime before 7:00pm.
i am still waiting for my blackberry to come in the mail. i got a little discourage from all the NEGATIVE feedbacks on the phone. but ther are some good ones too haha. im waiting for the storm to come in the mail, and if whatever happens then ill return it or keep it.
im a huge touch screen fan and type texts like crazy and love the internet. hopefully this phone ISNT as bad as everyonese says lol.
and besides, the new software should be coming out soon and hopefully that will fix everything.but i DO gotta say, the Iphone is just …..just too cool lol. but hopefully this can b similar, not competition wise.
It never continues to amaze me that amount of hate that anti-VZW and pro-apple folks have.
Pronouncing the first iteration of this phone as crap is just short sighted. I don’t doubt it needs some software tweaking…but that can be fixed.
You don’t like the click-screen..okay, I get that, sorta, but part of me thinks that will be cleaned up in software as well.
Bottom line is the first iPhone had issues as well…yes yes…you don’t think they were the same and it had a better foundation and this that. But people suffered through EDGE speeds without copy and paste, exchange support and all the other little things because they liked apple and the phone. But 1 year later…1 year, they came up a with brand new phone.
The stuff on the storm, I don’t think it’ll be one year. I think there will a software revision every few months until it’s humming like a charm.
oh, and for the record, I never buy first gen stuff anyway. That way I don’t have feel all the suffering that I see in the other posts..
Well count me as StormFan. Love my phone. Sure there are quirks, but I have Iphone as well and it has quirks as well. Rim will be quick to release updates I am sure, they have to much riding on this. My iphone has been waiting on a MMS update for ummm over a year! Bash away as usual in here, but I love my storm.
Ok the storm I’d definitely jot a disaster once I made a couple tweaks this bad boy runs awesome.
The accelerometer runs like butter flippin only when needed.
With apps and development this thing is gonna rock hard.
Got mine yesterday, and so far so good. I’ve been hammering it, and no crashes as of yet. Used Navigator this AM, worked fine. Bluetooth syncing, bluetooth tethering, etc. all good. Running all the IM’s in the background along with Facebook. I’m sure many are pissed off because they have a different software version of the unit was/is defective, but give it time. The OS is a bit slow, and while typing is good, it’s still slow to register compared to other BB devices. As the OS upgrades come, I’m sure they’ll knock out the issues…except for the typing. The screen can only move and register so fast…
@ forte… Care to share your “tweaks”? Thank you in advance!
Speaking from experience, I just came back from Verizon and returned the Storm…and canceled my contract (still am w/ at&t). I have an 8800 and wanted a touch screen as my next device. I wanted to love this phone but they look it out of the oven a little bit early. Major problems, the keypad is a mess, the clicks get annoying, I can’t see the blue halo on the keypad, hard to see what I type. It lags, voice quality is not the best (the 7230/90 had the best phone reception), and it was heavier than I expected. It is a beautiful looking phone, it for lots of ‘Wows’ from friends but it needs some more work, not to mention the bloody third-trimester abortion of a launch RIM/Verizon pulled off. Anyways, this is my opinion but this phone is average for me, not the superphone I…and others…were expecting.
I love my storm. At first I wanted to throw it out the window because of typing difficulty alone. Then I calmed down, tweaked the keyboard settings, and hammered out a few quick brown foxes and felt much better. I had to do the same thing when I I got my curve. The tiny keys were unbearable at first. The main thing the blackberry has going for it is that the browser doesn’t crash every other page like the iphone. If rim had just added a pearl ball to this sucker it would be heaven.
I ordered my storm online the day it came out, probably around 4pm. It shipped out sunday and arrived today. I’ll post the OS version once I get home tomorrow and open it up.
I just got my BOLD about 30 minutes ago, it is BEYOND smooth, fast, clean, sleek etc.. etc… etc… WOW, anyone want a storm, ha, i have a extra… JK
I walked into a verizon store this weekend to play with the phone. I was pleasantly suprised that the sales people knew not to bother me while I tried out the one live demo they had in the store. I am a fan of this site and have been keeping up with all the reports. I wanted to play with it myself and form my opinion. I loved the coolness factor. Touch screen, sleek, responsive to touch but trying to navigate through the menus was painful. I tried to send myself an SMS message to see how long it would take me and I was fustrated by the process. Hell this whole comment is being typed on my curve and based on the time it took me to write this, I still had yet to complete a full sentence on the storm.
I would say I am not an Iphone supporter as I see it as more of a musical phone device but I remember when I walked into the Apple store to try out the Iphone when it first came out. I was immediately impressed, to the point where I almost bought one. Learning curve was almost non existant. I was flying through screens and testing functionality. I was hoping for a similar experience with the storm. Sadly I was disaappointed. Iphone won that round – Dammit!!!
Tommy come home now. Your dad wants to beat you.
