Great looking phone,lovely keypad,this one unlike all others seams to be designed for mens fingers,but it’s a shame the Americans are getting a better specified model the the rest of the world.

Like Mortimer N. Cobblepop said, drop it in a swimming pool. Dropping it in a glass of liquid does not put a lot of water pressure on it but make that water 5 to 6 feet deep and its a different story. Also try dropping it in a hot cup of coffee and leaving it for a minute or two.

You can also try driving over it with an average car and not neccesarily at high speed. I had an ericsson “sharkfin” that survived being driven over twice (don’t ask how it happened so it should be a breeze for the xp3…

I recently purchased a sonim cell phone and not a couple months later the speaker was not working on it. For a phone that is supposed to withstand being roughed up a little it couldn’t take it. I was not pleased that I purchased the phone, paid 400 dollars for it, and then it only lasted for 4 months.

Looks like a puck, you should play hockey with it. If that isn’t fun, feed it with hummus (beer is not worth giving to a phone). I would also recommend driving over it (used to see this all the time at T-Mobile), drop-kicking it, giving it to a hedge fund manager after telling him you forgot to process his sell order… You could also throw it into a giant fan like the ones you see in the movies. If that doesn’t work, try using a giant laser beam to blow it up, or at least make some scorch marks on it.

Way back when when I worked at Nextel (before Sprint took over) and the i530 first came out my demo was taking it out side and throwing it at a brick wall on the side of the AVCO theater in westwood as hard as I possibly could. We had an idea one day but no one could locate one of those automatic ball pitchers…. ya stick that sucker in there against a cement wall see what happens… Thats a good idea…

I think you need to do every thing in a specific order that would test the ability to with hold. first is case craks even if minor to the phone to see if dust or water can get to it then to test it after hot then cols weather. then re do the test again to see if the phone with hold to the same sequence of events…for example start with dropping it from a high place then a nice kick as soon as it hit the ground. kicking the phone should be aimed at a fairly deep body of water. after that repeat the drop and the kick but instead of water aim it to place full of fine sand. after the first two tests, expose the phone to a very high heat followed by a very cold temp….

1) Throw it in the microwave.

2) Drop it in a bucket of motor oil.

3) do a torque test. C-Clamp each end and twist in opposite directions.

4) Take it to the zoo and let some chimps trough it around.

5) Accidentally leave it in a taxi and see if you can find it again or get it returned. I’ll drive!

I want to see how it does in more than three feet of water. What happens if you drop it in a pool that’s 10 feet deep and fish it out a minute or two later (once you’ve emptied your pockets and taken your shoes off)?

I know it’ll survive a drop in the toilet, but a phone this expensive and supposedly durable would be pretty lame if that’s all it takes to kill it.

Do what I want to be able to do with a phone. Mount it to the handlebars of a motorcycle so you can receive calls through a helmet intercom and use the GPS (without having to buy separate devices) and go ride all day in the winter in the Pacific Northwest while it is raining. Just for good measure drop it a few times and bang the gas nozzle into it when refueling.

No access to a motorcycle and cold blowing rain? Feel free to send the phone to me and I will let you know how it fares and take pictures of the whole ordeal.

In case you don’t feel like sending me a free phone any word on how much these will set us back? It looks like a good choice for those of us who find iPhones and G1s to be too fragile. As far as I am concerned I would much rather spend $300 on something I can drop or get wet than $300 for something that looks cool but shatters the first time I sit down without taking it out of my back pocket.

Put in 5 gallon bucket fill with wet cement, forget about it. 4 hour later remember where you put it and liberate it?

washing machine. then for completeness put it in the dryer.

Drop it while driving down the road with the window open.

Go to a farm, I’ve destroyed several of my phones on a farm, it’s pretty easy.

make it sit next to an apple fanboy and listen to why it’s just a iphone clone and how they need to come up with an original idea for a couple hours, It’ll probably self destruct on this one.

In order to truly test this phone, I think you need to put it through an official “Drunk College Kid Test”! which includes…

1) Strapping it to your side and then barrel roll under a garage door before it goes all the way down.

2) “Accidentally” drop it into a pitcher of beer for at least 10 seconds.

3) “Accidentally” urinating on your phone because you thought it was a random cat in the alley.

4)Leaving it in the fridge for 24 hours next to your beer for beer pong.

5) Giving it the ol’ touchdown spike for when you just chugged a beer before your buddy.

You know…just a few everday tests…

You have to do the toilet flush test…working phone dropped into flushing toilet…I can’t tell you how many pagers and cell phones I have had reported to me being trashed this way…

Drop it from 15+ stories up. I know you don’t want to drop it down the Grnd Canyaon but a 15+ story drop is a real possibility for a phone belonging to workers on swing stages doing construction, renovations, or even just cleaning windows
Also you can freeze it into a block of ice, put it in a block of jello, take it to the beach and drop it in the sand just to see how much gets in (if any), give it to a classroom of 2-5 year olds for a day or 2

At the plumbing company I work for our tech will often have their cell phone drop out of the holsters and fall to the ground. This sometimes is followed by the phone being run over when they dont notice its missing. A quick 1meter drop to the ground and slowly running it over would simulate this pretty well.

1) Tie it to the back of a paperboy’s bicycle as he does his entire route.

2) Same thing, but with a pizza delivery guy for a day.

3) Re-enact the final scene from “300″ using an iPhone as God, toothpicks for spears and the XP3 can be King Leonidas. Make that iPhone bleed.

4) Put it in a tube sock and go running down the streets of your local city, swinging it around like a mad man, hitting every wall and pole. Just avoid people and their cars, that would create the scenario of you getting your ass beaten.

5) Do it up Ace Ventura style, find the biggest staircase you can and roll it down from the top. If it doesn’t make it the whole way, proceed to scream and fall to your knees in despair.

That’s all I got for ya BG, if you do any of those I’ll be proud.
