Samsung Omnia begins landing at Verizon Stores, BGR readers begin drooling over live pics

Ok, so the BlackBerry Storm might not be the perfect handset for every touchscreen fiend out there but that doesn’t mean Verizon customers should despair just yet. Just lookie here – the big sexy Samsung Omnia decided to strike a pose for the camera and your pals at BGR felt compelled to give you a peak. We knew Omnia training was scheduled to begin on November 15th but no one expected handsets to start hitting stores so soon afterward. At least we know it’s dropping sometime soon, and we also know there will be a $70 rebate attached to it. Release timing and final pricing however, are still a bit of a mystery for the time being. Sure it might not click as you type but Verizon’s Windows Mobile 6.1-powered Omnia is definitely going to turn some heads and open some pocket books. Hit the jump for more shots.

Thanks, krazyVZW!

I gotta say, I definitely want this phone. I’ve been holding on to my VX6700 for a while now – and I’m ready to upgrade. Yet, I can’t get this phone because I’m unwilling to pay $30/month for a data plan for personal use.

    Any suggestions?

This is still a resistive touch screen, correct? Also, does the Omnia have a better keyboard than std. WM6?

I’m a big WM fan but after using the iPhone I can’t handle resistive touch screens or how poor the WM keyboard is.

    John says:

Ahaha. I was about to ask if it had WiFi, but all you have to do is look at the box with the big button on the screen that says ‘WiFi off’.

It actually looks pretty damn great, and for once, Verizon didn’t neuter a smartphone.

Hi, called several stores in Central NJ re Samsung Omnia (Verizon version). No one has any clue/never heard of Omnia. I guess they are all busy with Blackberry Storm! (not that they have that in stock either!)
Did anyone see any demo unit of Omnia at any Verizon stores in NJ?

    As opposed to what?

(I’ll make it easy for you, here’s a multiple choice answer set)
    A. A limited proprietary dumb phone OS
    B. All of the above.

I wanna know if this thing has that lame dongle attachment to it like the original Samsung Omnia did? Or are they shipping it without a dongle?

(coz that thing seriously killed the look of the phone, hanging on the side like a mini-lipstick).

Verizon doesn’t seem to have a problem with WiFi on Windows Mobile devices- at least, they left it on the Samsung Saga and the XV6800… (hopefully I got the number right, Verizon’s site is running like crap today due to the Storm)

    Who? says:

@Abhishek: There’s no slot for the stylus, so of course there’s a “lipstick dongle” (I think this is what we should all call it now). I hope it doesn’t need to be reset a lot. Oh, wait it’s WinMo. Hahaha. Seriously, though, as a very happy Tilt owner I’d think long and hard before getting a WinMo phone without a stylus slot, and I plan on continuing with WinMo.

Of course, if a pen can reset the device, then all good, assuming you usually have a pen on you. On the go the only time I’d really need a stylus is for the reset.
