Apple iPhone 2.2 update is finally here
Hey ladies and gents, the long-awaited iPhone update, which includes Google Maps Street View, is finally here and ready for your downloading pleasure. At 246MB, it’s going to take a little while before you can enjoy all that 2.2 has to offer. New features include, of course, Street View for Google Maps and walking and public transportation directions. Perfect for you city-dwellers. The update also fixes call failures and dropped calls – a definite bonus for those of you who have experiencing a little trouble with making, or even the inability to make, calls. Another big addition to the iPhone is the ability to stream and download podcasts straight through iTunes over WiFi and the network – bonus! So, fire up your computers and get crackin’ as this new update shows a lot of promise and improvements to an already solid OS.

Just updated which btw I found quicker to do from previous updates in the past.
Living in NYC, the street view and specially the walking direction feature is very useful.
The phone in a whole seems more stable and less crashes in safari.
Kudos to you Apple!!!
Now, if only they would make the whole iTunes store accessible through 3G and not just the Podcasts section.

Another update, so how updates does that make now? And how many more will it take before they add copy past and mms? I hope apple steps up their game and add what we all want in a phone with the next firmware upgradeor they will begin to fall behind the Android OS. Android on the G1 has hardware limitations but other then those issues the iphone doest have anything over the G1 and if reports about Adobe flash player 10 for Android pan out Iphone is so screwed. Note to Apple you did good with the Iphone being the first out but.with other mobile phones being release the customers want more so dont disapoint
Has fetch email been fixed? Mine will not fetch when the screen is locked at the specified time… I heard this started with 2.1.
I was more excited about the new Google voice search than I was for 2.2! That voice search is AWESOME!!! I use it all the time. The more I use it, the more I see it does. And I’m just on Edge in my area with an original iPhone. Anybody that doubts the power of the iPhone platform isn’t using it right. Just jailbreak and have a great time. There are SO many useful apps out there. Thankfully we don’t rely on Apple alone for all the great stuff.
They must have fixed something with the battery life since it’s been 10 hours and I still have a full battery indicator…very strange
The new update is sweet and the Bus transit feature works great even in my relatively small college town. I really want to switch to something else like the HTC Fuze/Touch Pro or G1 but I really don’t want to lose all the great apps on the iPhone like Byline, 1Password, i.TV, iFlix, Showtimes, AirSharing.
I don’t really care about Flash at all especially since all it does is slow down my web browsing (even on my desktop). It don’t need advertising banners on my mobile phone and since YouTube is h.264 now I don’t need it for that either.
I wish Apple would open up the doors to more competition though, and while the Safari on the iPhone is great I just tried out Opera Mobile 9.5 and I think it might be even better.
The other thing is that, if the iPhone is 3G now why does it still feel like it crawls when browsing the web even on Wifi while other things that download data like iTunes or even AirSharing seem to have really great data speeds. Is it just the rendering time that makes Safari seems so slow.
The browser does seem more stable, but I’m wondering if thats just me being excited about the update because the last few weeks I’ve pretty much given up on browsing on my iPhone since it crashes no matter what it seems after reading for a few minutes even with only two tabs open.
Odin I agree jail breaking is the best way to use the Iphone but we shouldn’t have to rely on hacks just to use our phones. With a high end smart phone many users are not willing to void the warrente or bricking their new phones just to get some of the functions that all phones should have anyway.
My 3G is totally jacked. I can’t acquire 3G network at all in downtown Chicago. I was streaming pandora yesterday at my desk. Today no 3G symbol and haven’t seen it since the install. Damn it.
They still didn’t fix the stupid continuous play bug which plays podcasts newest to oldest, which is just awful when listening to series podcasts, etc.
Podcasts should be one serving… when it’s done playing an episode I want it to STOP. At least a setting for that, c’mon!
I love how it tell you where to walk and where and which bus to take to your destination, it even tells you the schedules, sweet, also google street view is something i thought i wouldn’t like cause it sucks on my PC, but am loving it on the iphone now
where is the vertical keyboard for email!??!?!?

Install taking f o r e v e r. Clocking close to 2 hours.
Dang…mine took less than 30 min. That included download and iPhone install/reboot.
Just did the update, took approx 25 minutes. First call I made after dropped, What a joke!!
3G in Chicago is atrocious anyway. Did you do a Restore after you updated? I’ve found that this is the only way to prevent bugs.
Could that post have licked the Apple (particularly the bottom part of the apple, you know, where if you look at it long enough it starts to resemble a certain orifice) any more?
OK – so I’m thinking my install my be ’stuck.’ Any tips? My phone is off right now and i’ve got a window in iTunes that says “Verifying updated iPhone software….”
