Shortages of BlackBerry Storms Friday?
We were told all along there were more than enough Storms to go around on launch day, but a couple of our solid tipsters have hit us up to inform us there might be some issues. First off, we’re told that a last minute security flaw was found in the OS and they had to be re-flashed again. This will delay the shipments of the units to stores. Here is an example:
- A Verizon Corporate store that was promised 100 units on launch day is now getting 20 Thursday, 40 for Friday, 40 for Saturday, etc.
- The stock is spread out instead of being sent in large quantities.
- Our Verizon ninjas want to stress that stores will definitely have stock, just not nearly enough as was originally planned.
- We were also told to report that this was a RIM screw up (?) and not a problem on Verizon’s end. We have no idea what that means…
- All other retailers like indirects, Best Buy, etc., will take backseat to corporate-owned stores. We’ve even heard Best Buy’s launch might get pushed back in light of the new situation.
Remember those stock numbers are examples, ok? We’ve reached out to Verizon Wireless and are waiting to hear back. We’ll keep y’all updated.
Thanks, NotHTCKid and Anonymous!

Damn that really sucks for people who were trying to get this the 1st day out. I spoke with a Verizon rep and she guaranteed me my Storm if I did choose to purchase one so I guess I’m ok whether there is a shortage or not.
Some stores received shipments this past Monday, more on Thur.
Last minute security flaw? Must of been serious if they couldnt just update it once it was released.
Verizon store called me today. They are calling the ones on a waiting list first and opening 2 hours early. Glad ive got mine reserved and confirmed.
So Cal – Circuity City will have only 12 units in my area and the Verizon Store across the street will have 50 units. Which doesn’t seem like many. Guess I will have to get later in the week if they sell out. On the other hand atleast my 8700 still works for now.
Sucks to be RIM. Good thing they got it fixed though.
@rosario — why would you assume that it was a security flaw?
how often do you hear about security flaws in blackberrys?

Here is a 9 minute video of the Storm if anyone wants to see.
I hope I don’t end up with a rushed product in my hands on friday. OTA updates would be grand
this is a crock of sh*t…. its just something to get people nervous. You don’t mass produce a product and LAST minute have a security flaw. Now a days with a software fix, why short a launch? This phone has been in testing for months, I dont buy this one.
All the other reviews are trash so far. Trust me, I’ve read and watched all of them already. BG’s will be the best… It’s as simple as that.
This is why I wait a while before buying a product.
Let all the “Beta Testers” fight with the “bugs” first.
Corporate VZW store in Denver, had a list going, then changed to 1st come 1st serve after notification of smaller shipment than originally expected. They are opening up 3 hours early! I just hope I can get one..or two..
@ sooooo – read the article.
A RIM problem? Get outta here you wanna be tipsters. LOL. Verizon engineers dropped the damn ball and anyone who knows anything knows that’s the real deal. I’m not here to embarrass Verizon but to blame it on RIM is a outright lie.
@Crucial
Think it’s a bit of both sides, but I agree for the most part which is why I ran that part of the tip with caution.

soooo. BG should I stick around til 12:01 tonight? Review coming?
@JayJay
Yeah, 12:01 it is. Not running until then. Screw it.
Heard Blackberry Storm is the worst phone ever.
Check this reviews: http://www.gsmarena.com/blackberry_storm_9500-reviews-2534.php
This doesnt make any sense, but on another note. does anybody know what the corporate pricing will be??
All I have to say is I hope the Storm will come to AT&T/T-Mobile soon. I would never used or switch to a CDMA carrier.
If they start getting shipments on Thursday, does that mean we are able to purchase them before the actual release date? Thanks!! If someone who works at a Verizon store who is in the Southern Cali area, please let me know if I can purchase early
@JC
Negatory. It is common practice with retail to have the product in stores ahead of the launch that way they don’t have to worry about shipments not coming in, people disappointed, etc. Stores are under strict orders to not sell until Friday AM.
Thanks BG! I appreciate your prompt reply! You have a great night….if you actually sleep!!
