Palm Treo Pro coming to Sprint in January

We’ll keep the rumor flag on this one but you can pretty safely mark it down as done. Since we first scooped the Treo Pro back in May, the consensus has been consistent – it’s kind of sweet, for a Palm. Those who have used the handset can attest however, it really is a significant improvement over prior Palm handsets. Rumblings of a CDMA variant of the Treo Pro have been making their way around the interweb for a while and BGR ninjas are now finally able to essentially put the speculation to bed. There is indeed a CDMA version on its way and it’s headed for the little yellow engine that could. Sprint customers will be able to get their mitts on the latest Palm come January of next year. The date, tentatively for now, is January 11th. We would certainly expect Verizon to follow suit with a Treo Pro of its own, though for the time there are no new details regarding Big Red. As for pricing info from Sprint, you’ll know as soon as we know.

this sucks rectum. I have had every single carrier. Verizon dominates them all yet consistently gets the worse phones. Come on Verizon. They were dumb for passing on the iphone but at the same time iphone people are generally tools. Newsflash. While the i-phone has cool function it isn’t exactly exclusive in terms of price. Any Joe blow can afford one so don’t get too smug.

Because this is the first Palm device built by HTC I think it would be safe to say it will rock. HTC knows how to build Windows Mobile Phones.

Help!!! I have had Palm since Pilot days, went to Visor and up the Treo line. My 65o looks like it has gone through a war and I must upgrade. Moving to Windows is scary. Tell me about making the change from Palm OS. Also, I figure I should go for the gold and upgrade to the Pro in January. Thanks for any insights.

I loved the Palm OS, I have had 2 palm os phones. The problem with Palm OS is, it is stuck somewhere in the late 90s, they have not done anything revolutionary to it for 8+ years. Windows Mobile sucks if the hardware is not right. I had the Treo 700w, I loved it with the exception of always locking up. I now have a HTC touch, I absolutely love it. The Treo Pro is built by HTC with all the power of the touch and the convenience of the treo. I would think it will rock. As far as the switch to windows moble, I think you will like it as you get use to it.

Here is the real deal. The Palm OS is very effective from a practical business lifestyle. The 755p for Sprint is still the best overall phone. The new Centro’s button’s are super lame.

Cons to the latest Smartphones on the market:

Touchscreens only-if you have any skillz at all, you like to do stuff without looking at the handheld

No Touchscreen-who wants to push a little ball around…lame

Big Qwerty Keypads(side ways slide keyboards)-I can increase my speed on the 755p because of the distance between the keys.

Basically I say all that to say this…overal the Treo 755p doesn’t have the popping eye candy, nor any type of good looking background. But from a functionality standpoint, email, calander, touchscreen, qwerty key board, size, and reliability: I have yet to see a phone compete.

So since the 755p rocks when are they going to come out with a new version that is PALM based that resembles semi the 21st century:-) Any word?

Because this Centro, Pro and Windows based crap is nonsense….

I think the Pro is coming to so quickly because of the qualcom/broadcom patent battle, either way the pro looks like it kicks the 800ws ass.. I have an 800w and its pretty good but i cant wait to get my mitts on a Treo Pro.

I have the 800w and it has a lot of problems. GPS not working right, poor battery, needs a reset daily, very bad voice/sound quality (worst of any phone or smartphone).

Will be glad when Pro comes out. So will Sprint as they say they have a lot of tech problems with the 800 (Verizon refused to carry it because of bugs).

Hi people. Let me tell you guys why, PROFIT. That is why we do what we do. We offer different products for differnt sectors. We try to entice those who didnt want the palm 800 to maybe want the Palm PRO. Maybe you guys might want the new feel or new color or the new form. We spend millions of dollars to find out what might people like. Those of you who said you like the 800 and bought one, well we did our job on that sector.
