Palm Treo Pro coming to Sprint in January

We’ll keep the rumor flag on this one but you can pretty safely mark it down as done. Since we first scooped the Treo Pro back in May, the consensus has been consistent – it’s kind of sweet, for a Palm. Those who have used the handset can attest however, it really is a significant improvement over prior Palm handsets. Rumblings of a CDMA variant of the Treo Pro have been making their way around the interweb for a while and BGR ninjas are now finally able to essentially put the speculation to bed. There is indeed a CDMA version on its way and it’s headed for the little yellow engine that could. Sprint customers will be able to get their mitts on the latest Palm come January of next year. The date, tentatively for now, is January 11th. We would certainly expect Verizon to follow suit with a Treo Pro of its own, though for the time there are no new details regarding Big Red. As for pricing info from Sprint, you’ll know as soon as we know.

This is pretty good news for the Treo and wm lovers out there. But I’m not a fan…
I should have waited. I will now have my treo 800w for 2 years!
A lame phone for a lame carrier, a match made in heaven.
*yawn*
BG when can we expect your “Storm” review. Gotta be tomorrow right?
Sweet.
He is trying to find the right words or get his foot out of his mouth. He can’t bring himself to say how great the Storm is
“…and it’s headed for the little yellow engine that could.”
good for a laugh. Thanks Zach
I wonder what sort of deal Palm had to give them – bet it resulted in low margins.
Palm love Sprint, just like HTC loves Sprint
If its Palm or HTC Sprint will get it first out of all the US boys
This is REALLY starting to piss me off (ok, actually I’ve been pissed for a while)…Why?
….Verizon where the F^*@! ARE YOU!!!
GRRRRRRRRR!!!
Screw all you haters
Sprint is much better than friggen AT&T
This phone is sweet
kinda puts the 800w in the dirt.
“kinda puts the 800w in the dirt.”
Precisely why I can’t figure out why Palm would be dumb enough to put the Treo Pro on Sprint right after the 800w! WTF? Either Palm is stupid, Verizon is stupid, or both or Sprint is just paying Palm a freakin’ fortune for these exclusiviety deals…
I don’t get it…
@Scott – it ain’t happening on VZ.
I’ve been talking with a Palm systems engineer off and on regarding my 755p. SPCS is getting this sweet device and the new Linux OS way before VZW will put a new WinMo Palm on their network. We’ll likely see the Linux OS on VZW early next summer and a new WinMo device after that – maybe. SPCS is getting the good stuff for the foreseeable future. He said that QC at VZW are being pricks.
Craptastic!
Its about time.. Us sprint people have been battling crappy phones forever (with the exception of the touch and touch pro).
Ditto. I’ve been with AT&T, Verizon (20+ years) and Sprint for the last two. Sprint is by far the best service I’ve ever had and this new Treo Pro is just the perfect one handed operating phone I’ve been waiting for.

If that’s the case I’ll ultimately deal with an inferior service (at least in my area) with AT&T rather than dealing with a 5 year old treo…Verizon’s pissing me off.
As far as I’m concerned this is not a Palm, though nice form factor/design – the OS ruins it. H1 2009 is going to be very iiinnteresting.
And when is the PALM OS Version gonna be release?

My store guy says the 800w is the most returned and buggy device they have ever had. In 30 days they are going back for very low battery time. After 30 days they are going back on warranty claims for some GPS problem.
If Sprint employees are steering people far away from the phone, and Palm is forced to come up with the next year’s model after less than five months, you know it is garbage phone.
Been with Sprint for 5 and I was previously with VZW. Sprint doesn’t have as much coverage area but still blows VZW out of the water. VZW will get more expensive after the final take over of Alltel. I feel bad for you saps.
I have the 800w and it is not buggy. Low battery life? Yeah, all the reviews said that. Buy the extended battery. The GPS is working flawlessly with my 800w. So far, I am pretty happy with it and the great, cheaper service from Sprint!
Way to go HTC, Palm did not do a damm thing but stamp thier logo on the device and and box it up. Oh yes I for got to add the margin………………..
Another lame comment left by a lame person. That’s me — Greg. Sorry.
Its not. Have even heard of a Pro palm version? Don’t know how its supposed to come out if it doesn’t exist.
