Do u think this version will have the dust under the screen problem like the unlocked version. cus i have the UNLOCKED version and it is AWSOME!!! but like every 3 weeks i have to take the phone apart and clean the dust off the inside screen. Other than that problem this has been the best phone ive had on any network. Nokia, ROCK ON!

I am looking forward to buying the E71 Nokia phone. I want the supercool white/stainless one. The last real eye-catching Nokia phone I owned was the 8860 chrome phone. Damn, that phone was so cool back in the day (computerly speaking) Sounds like based on what folks are saying, even though it’s more expensive, it’s better to get the unlocked version period. That way you have Nokia’s original features 100%. I have looked at countless reviews which all give the e71 thumbs all the way up. I was going to get the phone through AT&T since I want to my service through AT&T………but I am taking the advice from most here and getting it unlocked.

I finally scanned and printed my first version and painted on the print, of course the paint mixed with the ink and gave those strange colors. Please if I can give you anything out of my loss take my word for it, this will diffuse the situation in a second and restore your love back. Guilt in that it claims our voice is illegitimate for some reason and in using our voice or resources is immoral. Do you know for a fact that AT&T will treat this as a “smartphone”?

The reason I’m asking is that until now, it seems they have only included Windows Mobile devices in that category. (For other commonly called smartphones, such as BlackBerry, Palm, iPhone, etc) they have separate categories/plans (PDA, iPhone, BlackBerry).

The smartest of all phones out there, the Nokia S60 based ones, are subject only to their standard “dumbphone” charges (e.g. $15/month for unlimited data).

I have an unlocked e71 and it’s an awesome phone overall. The reviews are right, the camera sucks and the screen isn’t anywhere as nice as the Blackberry Bold. Beyond that it functions flawlessly and has more features than anyone could possibly need. Can you print from a Blackberry? How about create Office documents without paying for extra software?

I don’t need instant everything and just have a voice plan. There’s enough free wifi around so that I can connect a few times throughout the day and get email and browse the web. The savings from not having a data plan pay for the phone in a year or less.

I suppose that AT&T will strip out a lot of features and replace it with their brand of crapola. Personally, I’d tell you to just pony up for an unlocked version.

The last paragraph in a news story about the N97 says “Nokia’s most recent offerings, the N85, N96, and E71, have made very little impact on the North American market, as they were not picked up by any U.S. carriers.”

Does anyone when this is supposed to come out? I bought the bold and had the pleasure of using this phone for a couple of days and i must say i am surprised. The keyboard takes a bit of getting used too, but thats not a problem. I dont use the resolution of the bold anywhere near its full potential so that is pointless. Plus the battery life far exceeds the bold as well as the amount of 3rd party apps. I have been a die hard blackberry fan in the past few years and I can totally see why Symbian is the biggest operating system for mobile phones in the world currently. Not to mention the form factor of the e71 surpasses the bold even though the bold does look slightly better in my opinion.

Seems to me that an unlocked E71 will initialy set you back around $400 and you can subscribe to the $15/month MediaNet plan for 2 years for a grand total of $360. that’s a total outlay of $760.

ATT’s (crippled?) version of the E71 will set you back $150 initially and I’m pretty certain you’ll be forced to pay $30/month for their “smartphone” data plan and more if you want to “tether”. That’s a grand total of $870 for the same two years.

I am using a E71-2 USA 3.5G for AT&T network and love it. I purshased it from buy.com for $379. I am not sure what the branded version will offer but if you can’t wait buy now…

@Graygory: Hmm..yea could be a little bit of E63ness. But, it just seems far-fetched IMO, because they have the E71-1 (which I have, so maybe the call drop issue is with the NAM, or then Rogers is nice to my phone!), then the E71-2NAM, then the E63, probably an E63 NAM, so E71x would be a big production cost if they were to hybridize the E71 and the E63. The E71ness is clear with the keyboard and the steel (which is darker gray). So maybe only the secondary cam is gone (and I’m hoping the Wifi too XD) and you’ve the E71x. No need to E63ise it, so I guess no 3.5″ jack after all.

But again, they could go with the 2MP cam. Well, I don’t think so, but the dumber the x-version gets, the happier I’ll be. XD

And you’re right! I wouldn’t bet on it breaking any new ground in the US market despite being the Wired smartphone of the year. The US market has never been intelligible through simple logic.

@leo23: The other day The kid posted a Black E-series xx branded phone they called it the E63. I was just mentioning that this phone looks almost identical. I think some of the features will be taken of why wouldn’t they just call it a E71-2. Something is changed

Like a e71 with a 2meg camera or something like that. I just think it will be crippled that is all or just dumed down.

I have a bold and I am actually returning it. It is an awesome phone (I won’t reiterate what has already been said), but it is really geared toward business users, not for the average consumer. I bought the bold for the querty keyboard and internet browsing. Although typing on the bold is a dream, the browser needs serious work. The bold was not built for browsing and neither is any blackberry. Read the reviews on the e71 and it is clear that it has a great browser. That’s why I am returning the bold and getting the e71. I won’t wait for the att version, you can find an unlocked one for $370 now.
