Nokia E71 coming to AT&T as E71x; live and in the flesh

There it is people, looking sexy as ever – we can only hope that the “X” doesn’t stand for “Xtra crippled”. It looks like we’re now pretty close to seeing AT&T formally announce the E71, rebranded as the E71x, as a welcome addition to its smartphone line. The 6650 made it through the AT&T branding process relatively unscathed so we’re hoping the E71 can do the same. In terms of pricing, we’re hearing it should be in the neighborhood of $150 with a 2-year contract but that’s unconfirmed for the time being. So, S60 fans, start your drooling. Hit the jump for two more shots including a close up of the various AT&T apps you can expect.

[Thanks, Todd!]

At&t, I am getting on my knees here please do not do one of the following two things:

Remove wifi, listen I have a Palm Pro and I almost never use WiFi because HSDPA is everywhere…that however does not mean I want you to take it away from me.

Handle this like you did the AT&T branded Nokia n80. This phone is still relatively new, please get this out ASAP instead of waiting until its so late you scrap the release altogether.

This is worth an upgrade for me!

I have noticed that Nokia is embedding their PTT application in the messaging menu, however, i failed to see that mentioned in any of the specs.

AT&T wont remove wifi. AT&T is actually a big fan of wifi. But from the screen shot, it looks big time CRIPPLED. Hope im wrong.

I’ve had this and it got old after a month. NEXT

    Bring on the Curve8900!!!!

It does look like a darker grey finish, which does look nice than the original e71

hmm dunno why people think it _looks_ crippled. It looks like it is loaded full of AT&T software, but as long as that bloatware can be removed, it’s all good.

    Damn straight AT&T!

I’m dumping Verizon, they would never offer a S60 phone. Now that the E71 is coming, I can’t wait for it to be released. AT&T and S60 here I come!

This is definitely good news for the S60 lovers out there. I have seen this device and I am in love with the build quality of it and that’s pretty cool its coming out for AT&T but I do believe AT&T is going to lower the specs somehow and its a coin toss as to what they will do with Wi-Fi. As you all remember, the E62 didn’t have Wi-Fi…

Its a miracle!!!! I still wont believe until i see it in an AT&T store, but this gives me hope. It seems like the E71x is running S60 3rd edition fp2, am I right? I did notice the clock is at the bottom of the screen.

    @ Mark,
yes it will allow for tethering, atleast the unlock E71 will allow you to tether (and its a very easy process). But I hope AT&T wont take out the tethering feature.

Seriously anyone who is in the market for a QWERTY/keyboard phone….this is the best out there. And according to the post, at $150 it will be less than half the price of the Bold, with 2x the build quality. The Bold has too much plastic, and that fake leather stuff on the back of it is a slap in the face at that price.

Holy Krizzap! You did it again BG. For those who haven’t had a chance to play with the E71, I have to say it’s a sleek piece of smartphonery. It feels incredible, looks like a million bucks, and the OS is a bit visually dated but offers rock-solid performance. Good shit AT&T.

Think about Ma Bell’s portfolio of smartphones: iPhone 3G, Bold, Fuze, and now this. they’re killing it

Have already in our office 4 of them and really very fast phones with reliable software, excellent built quality and battery life 3 days at least with a lot of voice calls, sms, emails and wifi surfing. Amazing phone from Nokia!!!

If I wasn’t limited to connecting BB and WinMo devices to our Exchange server at Work, I’d be waiting on this beauty. The build quality is incredible, and so is the design. The sheer simplicity of the home, calendar, contact and e-mail buttons is brilliant, yet nobody else does it. Why? I suppose I could use Nokia’s exchange mail app and connect unsupported, but I’m told it is a bitch and doing it without IT help is just too dangerous. Since the Bold is too pricey, looks like I may be Storm bound.

I would rather but the unbranded E71-2 right now and stick with the 35 media max rather than use this att version and have them say it is a pda/smartphone so we have to pay the $50 for the data package.

    @ Bunbury

The Nokia Mail for Exchange app is pretty easy and I’m no IT expert. If you know your company’s mail server (typically mail.x.com or exchange.x.com), you’re good to go.
