iPhone 3G still may come to Wal-Mart in 2008
A little over a month ago we broke the news that Apple’s iPhone 3G would supposedly be coming to Wal-Mart on November 15th of this year. Now that the date has come and gone with no iPhone to be found, we thought an update was in order. We’re not sure if our sources had the date wrong or if there has been some sort of delay, but we’re still confident that the iPhone 3G is on its way to the nation’s biggest discount chain. We have word that many store managers have already been notified, and that a memo has gone out to select stores with information including a release date towards the end of December. A post-holiday release might indicate that the iPhone 3G will indeed be discounted at Wal-Mart once released, and perhaps Apple would rather keep holiday sales at the current price points. Apparently word is even hitting employees at this point – hit the jump for a call recorded by a BGR reader. We had no idea Gheorghe Muresan was working at Wal-Mart these days…

Just because the iPhone is cheap now doesn’t mean the ATT Plan is. Many people will start to look at expenses and see 75 to 80 dollars a month is too much and might jump ship because of the economy, just saying

This is a big step for apple. If they allow Wal-Mart to carry the Exclusive phone than it wont be long until it hits Authorized Retailers.
G_Money21, lol no – we have several sources who have reported the memo referenced in the post, and another familiar source who has stated a 2008 release. The call is up because supports the statement that news of WM carrying the iPhone is now reaching employees, and it’s funny.

This doesn’t prove anything. Calling electronics doesn’t help since the dept that sells the phones is the mobile center. Also, RAE’s for AT&T at least in the west coast haven’t heard crap. And if the RAE’s don’t know, then the lower level employee’s in WalMart don’t know. So, at the very least until RAE’s get the message, I call FUD on the while thing.
Well InfoZZz, we RAE’s on the east coast and midwest know that the date is 12/28/2008 for WalMart and Sam’s.
west coast RAE confirmation, it’s official. Dec 28th.
Called my local walmart and asked about the iPhone and they said they were unsure of the date but heard it would for sure be out this month… And this was just a random electronics employee at 10:30 at night.
