Asus launches the 800MHz P565 as the worlds fastest business PDA phone

asus P565

Asus announced on Friday the P565, a Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional extraordinaire that comes with a blazing 800 MHz processor and a 2.8″ VGA touchscreen display. The black, leather-backed handset is targeted for the business folk and features its own Glide UI that is optimized for the touchscreen device. It also packs the SIRF Star III GPS chipset that is found on most stand alone GPS devices. The rest of the specs for the new Asus P565 are pretty standard for a smartphone:

  • HSDPA 3.6Mbps, UMTS 2100, EDGE/GPRS/GSM 900/1800/1900, Class 10
  • Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
  • 2.8″ TFT, 65K-color Touchscreen, VGA (480 x 640 pixels) Display
  • Marvell TavorP 800 MHz Processor
  • 256 MB Flash + 128 MB DDR SDRAM
  • MicroSD with SDHC support
  • WLAN 802.11b+g
  • Bluetooth 2.0+EDR
  • GPS : SiRF Star III with InstantFix
  • WAP Browser / SMS / MMS / Email / MSN / Push E-mail
  • Battery : 1300 mAh Li-Ion
  • Standby Time : 250-300 hrs with 3G and 200-250 hrs with 2G
  • Talk Time : 3 hrs with 3G and 4 hrs with 2G
  • Dimensions : 102 mm x 60.5 mm x 16 mm

No pricing or release date but with the phone missing the US 850MHz band and the US 3G bands, we wouldn’t expect to see it come stateside in its current form. Nonetheless, we applaud Asus for upping the ante and releasing the world’s fastest handset with a high resolution screen and a stylish form factor.

I got news for ya….with only 128/256 and winblows 6.1 that definitely will NOT be the world’s fastest smartphone…..We need to start doing benchmark tests instead of letting these manufacturer’s quote speed willy nilly….

There’s no way a 1300 mAh battery is sufficient for this phone.

Well guys, at 800MHz, this device will be the fastest computer. Having a fast UI is one thing. Being able to multitask and supertask is another. My S60 loving self is jealous!

To all the doubters, processors always make for faster computers. This is a great accomplishment in mobilephone tech! Don’t hate. Demand the RIMs, Nokias, and Apples of the world catch up.

They could’ve made it at least be 3 inches. The Iphone killer is not likely to be a WinMo device.Anyway its a nice phone.

the iPhone is a totally different device. For smartphone power users, an iPhone is just too inadequate. This is a multitasking business tool, not a media consumption web tablet. Two different worlds. This is a desktop replacing computer.

I’m not quiet sure what u mean by saying Daynes news is propaganda. What was he propagating..that windows mobile is badly designed? That’s a fact, not propaganda.

All windows branch offs have one major problem and that it is that they’re RAM hungry. They need an insane about of ram to run not only fast, but properly. 128mb of ram is completely useless for a windows mobile product. U could have a 600mhz or a even a 400mhz PDA, and it will run the UI the same as an 800mhz. Meaning that u won’t notice a major difference unless ur cropping massive pictures or opening a 50 page pdf documents. But then try scrolling up and down…it’ll be really sloppy and choppy. Microsoft products are built inefficiently and with an early ‘90 mentality of, lots of ram is good and needed. Well, that kind of mentality doesn’t belong in a mobile world because u don’t have those resources.

If ud have a 256mb WM product with a 400mhz processor, i guarantee u it will run faster then this one. And it will cost you probably 150-175 dollars less because u, not only not have “the worlds fastest PDA” (a $ mark up for that) but, ram is far cheeper than a processor (hence another $ downgrade).

If u want was a fast phone, honestly the BB bold is extremely good in that sense. Not only is the OS simple and easy to use (once u learn it), the 624mhz processor really speeds up the phone. like…lightning fast. And the BB OS is extremely lite, and uncomplicated. That’s why its fast and doesn’t have lots of ram. Where as the WM os is a media OS and needs lots of ram to run all of it’s system resources. On top of that it’s purely coded because if u look at the Symbian OS S60, it’s fast, efficient and can do what MW can and more.

If ur not a fan of the BB then the nokia e71 is another good alternate. I have it and it’s one of my facourite phones to date, next to my pearl. If u don’t want a full keyboard, then grab the e66 which is a very good phone. If u want a media phone, pick any of the n series phones eg. N79, N85 and the new one which is coming out N86.

    @ Abdel:
There is no such thing as an Iphone killer. It doesn’t make any sence. It’s like saying there’s a BMW 3-series killer. Well, no there isn’t. Or the New Benz C-class. Again..????. These are Niche products for Niche markets…aka, particular kind of people who want particular kinds of products. Ever notice how BMW owners ride with BlackBerries and Benz owners ride with Iphones? This is kind of how it works. Raw and rugged…BMW & BB. Polished and elegant…Benz & Iphone. The only thing that will kill these products, is a 5 year long deep recession or a massive massive US disaster. I mean aside from Bush. Basically where people will not be able to spend money on these products. And i mean physically as in they don’t have this money or credit or whatever…u know what im sayin.

Cadillac is improving, so it might be a compliment to Apple, but I meant 1999 Cadillac, not V-series Cadillacs. The iPhone has the prestige, but just don’t stand up to Nseries or Blackberries. I actually prefer WinMo to Apple, too, but they need botox, and their age is showing.

800MHz is definitely the fastest processor on any mobile phone, but this doesn’t mean that this particular phone is the fastest phone on the market due to the low RAM and also the poor ROM. I am willing to bet that by 2010, manufacturers will have mobile phones with 1GB or more of RAM installed on them and have way faster processors than 800MHz.
